  1. Oh, and besides all this real life stuff, suppressors are not useless unless it's a one shot kill....they give you huge damage bonuses if you get the perks that go along with them. So much so that once you get the right perks, using anything that isn't silenced is a waste of time. With the perks and chems I think I do just a hair under 7x damage for sneak shots. At that point you're just about guaranteed that one shot will indeed be a kill.
  2. Lets get something clear, there is NO SUCH THING as a "silencer". You cannot make a gun, especially a rifle, silent. Forget what movies have told you, it doesn't happen, especially when you go up in caliber and velocity. The most you can ever expect a suppressor to do is muffle the sound enough to scatter it and make it *more difficult* to pinpoint where the shot came from. Beyond that they're going to see a little reduction in muzzle flash, but that's about it. You don't just become a ghost because you're using a suppressor. And, here's the main point, if you skim this whole post and only take in one thing from everything I'm probably wasting my time typing, understand this: In order to get the most from a suppressor, you must use subsonic ammo. Without that, yes your weapon will be quieter, but nowhere near what subsonic ammo will give you. That also means a slower and less powerful round. If you don't have all the sneak perks, and you're wearing heavy ass armor, and you stand in the same spot you shot from, then yes the enemy is going to find you. On the other hand, if you get all your sneak perks, and you're not in heavy armor, you fire a suppressed round, and then you sneak away to another location, even if you're just going 30 yards away, your chances of being found are greatly reduced. But, you're not invisible, if you want to be invisible you need to use a Stealthboy along with all the other stuff. Here, this video talks a little about suppressors and will give you an idea of what they do in real life. If you'd like more info on subsonic ammo, watch this one.
  3. I almost never "buy" anything, I trade the loot I picked up on the way there for whatever I need, and usually leave the transaction with more caps than I started with. But, you do need caps for some building, like vendor stalls.
  4. 1. Deathclaw is on the right peaking out from under your walkway. 2. I have had no luck at all with setting up Arenas. They all just stand there and look at each other. It either needs some major patch work or I just won't use it. 3. This is also another reason I haven't played the beta yet, because if I can't use the console to move those players to the arena contestant stand then there's just no way I'm going to wait around for them to walk there on their own. I also use moveto player all the time when my stupid companion won't follow me. Basically the AI in this game is way too stupid for me to not be able to use the console...but, I'm getting off on another topic so..
  5. I've noticed in this game in particular that enemies will "lay down suppressive fire" in your general direction even though they don't actually know where you are. They'll shoot from cover at the direction the shot came from and continue shooting in that direction if you move to another spot. That's how I know they don't actually know where you are, but are just returning fire. This may be what the OP is encountering. I never noticed this in previous Fallout games, and in Skyrim the enemy will run to that location even if you're not there anymore. Heck in Skyrim you can just fire an arrow at a location that you want everyone to run to and they'll go to where the arrow made impact. I kinda wish enemies tracked impact in this game too.
  6. Ditto. Not just here but pretty much anyone who has ever contributed to a Bethesda game, as I'm sure most of us have played them all (and if you haven't, what are you waiting for?).
  7. The key word here is "suppressor" not "silencer". Though I doubt Beth put in enough realism to mimic real life, but the reality is a rifle is not completely silenced with a suppressor, so if your sneak skill is also not where it needs to be then you will be found. I can sneak shot them in the same room and enemies run up to me and stand in my face while I have my light on and they can't see me.
  8. I'm just getting back into this game after years of not playing. But, my usual routine was hoarding the crap out of anything edible. I stayed in Megaton and kept the fridge stocked. I could have fed the whole town lol. Ooooh and intact garden gnomes...I had dozens of those little guys.
  9. I haven't played this since I don't remember when, and the last time I had it running it was stable enough to run for about 5 minutes without crashing. So, I'm going to wipe it clean and start fresh, also I'm going to use NMM this time around and see if that gets me any better luck. I haven't kept up with any current mods or really anything that happened after about the time NV came out. So, what are your essential top favorite mods? Things I like: Weapon mods, highest quality meshes/textures only, tend to play sniper a lot. Armor/clothing mods Environment/weather mods Things I never got into: Body mods Half clothed chicks with huge boobs (I mean, not in a game anyway I'm a grown ass man lol) Anime face/hair/etc overhauls. I'm ok with vanilla texture upgrades but I don't need anything that makes it look like something out of a completely different game.
  10. They didn't warn you because technically you haven't been given the green light to start modding, since the official modding tool has not been released. So, they didn't give you the heads up for something you're not supposed to be doing anyway.
  11. Hmm...good point. I may not go full anti human then.
  12. I use a mod that gives you extra parts for bots, so I get a little more out of mine. My go-to build is something like: Mr. Handy torso Mr. Handy eyes (all 3 because of the mod) Sentry arms Laser gatling guns on both arms Voltaic armor on everything I don't really care for carry capacity, I just want them to be killing machines, and that's a pretty effective combo. As for changing the way you play, you can use bots for everything in your entire settlement. On my next play through, I plan on having NO humans in my settlements other than the ones you can't get rid of (and that's if I don't kill them off too). I'm gonna RP that play through as picking up where the Mechanist left off. The best part is you'll never have a quest where anyone gets kidnapped or harassed by raiders..
  13. That's my go-to "I'm sick of sneaking, time to F up everything" gun. But, I also modded mine to run at about 3k rounds per minute. It's a weeee bit overkill, but like saying goes "there's no kill like overkill".
  14. Yeah the difference in 1st and 3rd person is really significant. I'd have to go from a modded armor to unmodded armor to know the difference in first person, but third is about the same speed as sprinting.
  15. Well, I have only added the Sprinter perk via console....I wonder if the mod does something differently?
  16. I've done this with my body armor and it works great, but it only works in 3rd person on power armor for some reason. I never play 3rd person.
  17. Usually because raiders and stuff eating people in the houses. At least DC makes sense, big wall and well dug in area that you can easily fortify. Yeah I get that, but I don't see how a 2 wall shanty out in the middle of the woods is any more safe than a house with 4 walls and (most of) a roof. Heck there are dozens of basements and underground shelters people could live in. If the lone wanderer can build a settlement, then a group like Preston and the gang could too, and they did in Quincy. Yeah they got overrun by Gunners, but they can rebuild. If you get enough people together you can also stand your ground. This is how places like Diamond City and Goodneighbor are built.
  18. I'd be happy with a mod that speeds up the power armor run speed, but so far nobody has taken up my request.
  19. What I don't get is why people live in 2 wall shacks when there are houses all over the place that nobody lives in. At the very least all of the towns should be completely over populated before people resort to living in a stick shack. But, beyond that when the only resources you have are radiation filled scorched earth, you can't exact construct a Hilton in the middle of the wasteland and live it up.
  20. I'm sure it will come eventually. The game is barely 6 months old. Some of the best FO3/NV mods didn't come until well after several years after release. Modders need time with the GECK to bring out all those crazy weapon packs.
  21. If you could add the stability of Oblivion/FO3/Skyrim, it wouldn't equal the stability of FO4. I can count on one hand how many CTD's or other crash type issues in 406 hours of play.
  22. Er. There is a mod featuring solar panels on this very site. Well then. I did not know that. :ermm:
  23. If fusion cores eventually die, why can we find them still running in pre war generators? Seems logical that if they can run a factory with one for over 200 years, then you should be able to power your ghetto light display in your settlement for another 200 years or more.
  24. Is there a model in game for them? I'm not aware of one in FO4 but then there isn't a model for X-02 armor either.
  25. Well, having a pet Deathclaw to roam around my settlement is pretty cool. That alone can pretty much take the place of turrets. I do wish they didn't shake the ground when they walk around you though, that's a bit overkill.
