  1. I never ran into this problem but I've never had much luck with the Unofficial Fallout 3 patch as it seems more geared to vanilla FO3 and causes too many mod conflicts for me. Try disabling the esm and all the esps and see if that makes any difference. I've also found that using Wrye Flash and making a Bashed Patch helps with stability.
  2. If it's one of the main quest line characters I'm not sure you can without mucking about in the esm with FO3Edit (I'm not sure you can change their faction with the console). If the reason you want the character to attack you is to be able to loot some of their equipment then you can use the console command showinventory (after clicking on them) then player.additem <whatever inventory ref id you want> <space> 1 to get it that way.
  3. I found the bad karma thing happens to me when I snipe robots. However, if I close in on them and wait for the indicator to turn red or let them shoot first then it's back to normal. The Robco Certified perk has given people problems so if you use that then head over to the mod's page and check the comments section to see if there are fixes for the ctds.
  4. You may want to try asking here - http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/forum/287-fallout-3-mod-talk/ - or even doing a search on that forum, there aren't that many modders perusing this board presently.
  5. Hmm, BOSS puts mine before the 20th Century esps. The Bash patch combines all but the test container esps together, saving quite a few mod slots. Altogether, at this point, Bash has merged 17 of my esps into one. Not really necessary unless you start to push the mod limit though (I think that's somewhere between 150 and 200 but differentt people get different results.) Readius is something of an odd bird, when I first installed it it would cause a freeze on the Load screen when I tried to select Load Save Game instead of Continue but after a few days that glitch went away. Try disabling Readius just before Level Up and see if that makes a difference.
  6. You can try moving Readius above the 20th Century esps. I'd also suggest installing Wrye Flash or Bash to create a merged Bash Patch (not to mention FOMM and BOSS if you're not already using them). It sometimes takes a while before mod conflicts arise.
  7. Only for some rigs. I've been using my i7-875 for years without disabling any cores with ini tweaks. I've even gone as far as disabling Intel Core Parking and all 8 threads always show activity (albeit some non game related, background processes etc.) The only problems I've run into with Beth open world games (aside from game code scripting errors and memory leaks) have been either mod related, driver corruptions or registry key problems. The only thing the OP doesn't seem to have tried yet is clean sweeping his drivers and reinstalling (that goes for BIOS, Chipset, gaming device and audio drivers as well.) Other problems I've read about, particularly with FO3, are Codecs and some third party software such as Roxio or GPU monitoring/tweaking apps. Other possible issues here could be overheating, an insufficient PSU that is on it's way out or a video card with hardware problems. Although almost no one ever really does it, a monthly cleaning of the computer case with a low capacity vacuum cleaner, some isopropyl alcohol and Q-tips goes a long way toward maintaining stability.
  8. Try updating or just reinstalling your video drivers after a clean sweep of the old ones.
  9. The big red triangles with exclamation marks are missing meshes. First toggle archive invalidation in FOMM (open it, click 'Tools', check 'archive invalidation' at the bottom. If there's no check mark then click it so there is and start the game again. If there is a check mark then click it off, close FOMM, re-open FOMM, click it again so the check mark is there again and restart the game. If that doesn't work then you're going to have to reinstall any mods that include mesh files and make sure they install to the correct folders. I'm guessing that it's a body/clothing replacer mod that needs to be reinstalled in that case.
  10. Interesting conundrum then, I obviously have never recruited him. I can see how his actions could be frustrating. If you don't want to disable him and if the auto-fire through DLC doesn't work you could try the prid + setscale command and turn him into a purse mutant! (Maybe I'll try that on one of my companions this time through, maybe turn Dogmeat into a yip-yip just for fun!)
  11. There doesn't appear to be a console command to lower karma but rewardkarma xxx works. So you could go out and kill a busload of Nuns to make him leave you and then use the console command to get back to normal!
  12. You have to be close enough to get a name when you click on him, you should see some sort of name or descriptor in quotes before the number. If you see empty quotes and a number then get closer.
  13. Might be easier to find help here - http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/forum/287-fallout-3-mod-talk/ - Check the sticky up top first.
  14. Your best bet is to find solutions and report the problem is here - http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/forum/439-open-beta-feedback/ - They just released a new beta version today as well.
  15. Actually with hi-res mods the ground requires much more rendering than the sky because you've upped the the texture bits from half a k to 1k, 2k, 4k or even 8k. Each increase requires twice the amount of gpu power than the previous one which of course hits fps. So, yes using the smallest possible texture sizes are necessary with underpowered gpus.
  16. The setscale command. 1 is normal, negative numbers are smaller and positive numbers are larger. Click on it first while in the console or type in prid <id# that shows when you click on it> first.
  17. Since the screen shots look normal that would indicate that the game is rendering properly but your monitor is receiving a bad signal. I assume that your monitor displays okay with everything else except the game. Check your video settings in the game and make sure they match what your monitor is capable of, especially the refresh frequency (60hz on both?), the resolution (whatever your monitor's native resolution is), the color (32 bit, 16 bit?) and make sure the gamma correction in your ini isn't set too high.
  18. I recently had to resort to the old Oblivion hack of killing off my character in order to be able to save my games again (it happened after forgetting to re-enable archive invalidation after installing a new mod). I was just wondering what game mechanics are in play that allow this. I understand it has something to do with save corruption but I don't understand how the mechanism works. I only ever ran into the problem once in Oblivion and once in FONV previously and believe it is more mod related than game code related (or rather a combination of the two) because it only ever happened while installing very many and different mod combinations (even doing them one at a time). Anyone have any ideas on how or why this works?
  19. Thanks for the input. With all my Beth open world games I start from the xxSE loader and hit esc at the first screen to skip straight to the Options screen and after the cursor appears I always hit "Load " instead of "Continue". Clicking "Load" is where the freeze happened. I've never experienced the 'freeze while waiting for the Options screen to load' in any of the games (the bane of Skyrim for many!) [i actually played hundreds of hours on Skyrim, to the point of burn-out, without any problems worth mentioning.] I always limit myself to 20 total save slots (after decades of computer gaming I've learned that that's more than I ever need but with Beth games you do need to watch your back!) When I hit that limit I just keep overwriting my oldest manual saves. I always disable all 'autosave' functions (except the 3 slot timed one in Skyrim) but was eventually forced to use CASM in FONV. Don't get me wrong, CASM is a great mod but I tend to quick save often and my save identifier numbers in FONV are now over 10,000 and there is some imposed maximum limit although I don't recall what it is. I also make sure to loot only what I really need and never drop items on the ground, only put them in re-spawnable containers, in order to minimize save game bloat (another bane of Skyrim!) I've found that the vanilla 'quick save' doesn't cause me any problems as long as I do it while stationary, never while moving and especially never in combat. I found that it was the 'quick load' function that sometimes corrupted the save so I disable that by re-mapping F9 to a key I'll never hit by accident. Readius was definitely to blame this time for the load game freeze but I have no idea why and has now presented a new wrinkle. While slowly increasing my mod installs (one at a time as always) I forgot to toggle AI back on with FOMM at one point and started the game back up. Of course all hell broke loose eventually but I also hit "Load" instead of "Continue" by mistake and it loaded up normally. I thought Readius fixed itself but when I opened it I noticed that my Readius was smaller and the map screen was all washed out (usable but ugly.) I then saw all the texture mishmashes and realized my mistake. When I hit esc to quit the game the DarnUI help screen came up for some reason and wouldn't go away as the "OK" button wouldn't work and I had to three finger salute the game to quit. When I went back and corrected my mistake bt re-toggling AI and rebuilding my Bash patch, when I started the game again it showed the same Readius problem and the DarnUI help screen popped up again when I hit esc and I had to reinstall both of them. Then when I got back into the game and everything seemed fine again I got the 'crash when trying to save' bug with the dreaded .temp instead of .ess. I had to use the old Oblivion hack of committing suicide to got back on track. Which brings me to my next topic...
  20. Okay, I finally got a chance to work it out. The freeze on loading save games was due to Readius but by simply hitting "Continue" instead of "Load" starting the game works fine, it loads the last manual save and then I just load the quick save from there. ( I've found that the vanilla quick save works just great as long as you disable quick load and always load it manually.) The freeze on exit was caused by Clean Deluxe GOTY (sorry Jeoshua, it just doesn't work on my rig.) And of course the pip boy light problem was because I forgot to re-map the "B" key to my gameboard (and didn't bother with the readme because I've used Readius for so many years.) Thanks Alfred and I'm giving you Kudos for being so polite about my stupidity (all the searches in the world won't reveal the answer to a problem that doesn't exist!) ( Lesson Learned : Always read the readme's no matter how smart I think I are!)
  21. Thanks Alfred, that's what I forgot - remap the "B" key! Unfortunately I also discovered that it was the Readius that was causing my problem of freezing on initial game save load so I uninstalled it and now I'm trying to track down that problem.
  22. @Eric31415, thanks but I never needed the core tweak before in FO3, FONV or Oblivion (i7-875) but I tried it anyway just now and it showed no effect. I think that fix is more for some rigs with in-game crashes than just load save and exit crashes. @Jeoshua, thanks as well, I did filter all mods and ran Undelete and Disable References after removing Identical to Master records (it's amazing how many mods need that even with the BOSS suggestions, not to mention the unrecognized ones!) I even went through them and checked all the red conflicts and straightened out what I felt were oversights that needed correcting but I'm no pro. The Unofficial Patches and Fallout Remastered of course showed the most, but that's what they're there for and I had to make a few judgment calls on over-rides. I tried to keep it to a minimum with Remastered and ignored the minor name change stuff as long as I didn't get red on red at the end of the lines although I still can't figure out the NNAM - Canopy Shadow conflict loser stuff from the UOP and Remastered. I may have to reinstall your mod if I did screw anything up (I tried not to do anything too outrageous though keeping in mind the intentions for your mod and I'm not having any in-game problems.) BTW- Your mod does make my game run much more enjoyably and I have endorsed it. However I'm thinking about dropping the UOP if it comes to that. Edit: I'm also getting this from FO3Edit - 00:21] Background Loader: [Fallout Remastered.esp] Building reference info. [00:21] Background Loader: <Warning: Unused data in: NAVI \ Unknown \ NVCI - Unknown> - Probably something I did but do you see this as a problem? (Oddly enough it's the only warning in my load, unlike my FONV!) Again, the load save and exit crashes happened from the install before I went in with FO3Edit or ini tweaks and don't really bother me that much but that Readius no pipboy light is much more of an inconvenience. I really don't want to revert to the vanilla pipboy and I really wish I'd saved the old Fomod I'd made for Readius! (Actually, I still have one in FONV, I'll copy that one over and see if it works in FO3.)
  23. Having gotten a little burned out on Skyrim I decided to go back to some good ol' Guns and Grenades action. I reinstalled FO3 GOTY, having played it before many times on this rig with little problem, this time I have a few that I never experienced before. Freeze On Save Game Load - At first I just rebooted to get it to work but I remembered that starting a new game and immediately hitting esc when the cut scene starts allows a save game load. No problems in game though. Freeze On Exiting The Game - I seem to recall that there was a simple fix for this that escapes me at the moment and my searches have come up empty. No freezes or CTDs in game either. Readius Pip Boy Light Won't Turn On - I remember having this problem before but can't recall how to fix it, I think it was fairly simple though but again searches came up empty. The game still plays great at a constant 60fps with hi-res mods and all and these little irritations are certainly not game breakers because they're the only glitches I have. However since I've played it before entirely glitch free I'd like to get back there. The only changes I made this time were adding the unofficial patches and Fallout Remastered. I've checked and cleaned all my mods (that don't specifically say 'Don't Do That!') with FO3Edit and Bash Patched them. I haven't yet Mastered any because I haven't added all the new quest mods I want to try yet and I'll have to make a list of the mods that specifically say 'Don't Do That!' before hand. If anyone (with a better memory than mine!) can help me out here I'd really appreciate that. If not then I'll keep working at it in between game sessions and post back here with what I find. Thanks.
  24. You may be up against the save game bloat bug then. it seems that when save games get to large (>17mb or so) that the game just keeps crashing. Try loading a much older save or starting a new game and see if you have the same problem. Once the next patch and/or the CK is released this issue should be addressed.
  25. You have to go online to go offline! If you had gone to offline mode before you went abroad you'd be okay. Not sure where you are now but if there's an internet cafe around you could go there, log in, choose 'Play Offline' and you'd be good. After that you just hit 'Continue in Offline Mode' when the game starts and you don't have to have an internet connection then. Unfortunately simply having the disk won't do you any good anyway because you'd still have to connect to Steam anyway. (Unless you had a backup copy of version 1.1 which doesn't require Steam to play.)
