  1. hi im planning on doing a complete reinstall but using the steam copy makes it a cinch, you first uninstall all mods with nmm (and/or unsubscribe steam mods), replace the game folder with a clean vanilla copy and remove or delete the mygames/skyrim folder. If thats not how you reinstalled it before, and have a backup of the game folder itself try this other suedo reinstall to help troubleshoot whats causing the issue btw im not sure with your last comment if you were confusing left and right, but if the brightness slider in the menu's all the way to the right, that the brightest; all the way to the left is the darkest. Also your first confusion why screenshots looked normal but in game were ultra sharp and harsh, that effects created by post processing which isnt captured in some screehshots. In my experience using FXAA injector, screenshots the game takes (saved to the main game folder) had two copies, one a pre-rendered (corrupted) copy with the correct name, and another post rendered, filed as a png image, so if you used the games own screenshot tool, look for the png copy, that one shows the accurate reproduction. The Steam screenshots were pre-rendered also but not corrupted, and since ididnt like having screenshot bloat filling the game folder use Fraps instead cause it waits for the full rendering to complete before saving images
  2. i know its caused by light reflections, but never saw it on previous Bethesda games and its really annoying how often a good screenshots ruined by it, the effect often looks like jagged edge distortion which it isnt, it seems to be more like the glow map screwing up or mabye its in the meshes Heres a pic for reference. Can anyone point me to discussions on it, or know a fix? btw iknow the head/necks too dark, ill be redoing it; and the muscle maps from here if interested
  3. sure, and you wouldnt believe it i just stumbled on a sucessor to facegen exchange, the program everyones been waiting for, its called Skyrim Face Transfer and it works. Didnt transfer my apachii hair over to the new character but everything else copied fine
  4. First thanks for that link and the writeup, gonna check this out, So when you say its not compatible with fxaa, dyou mean the launcher setting or the mod fxaa injector, the SMAA mod page says theres "FXAA or ENB wrapper versions" im assuming that means fxaa injector compatible and Ive reciently installed Dynavision which looks awesome but destroys my x4 AA setting which was perectly smooth before but has horrible jagged egdes now, so been looking for a low performance hit way to reduce the jaggeds and keep Dynavision.
  5. man awsome show and good comparison. i allways figured GOT was some dry old medieval politics drama
  6. Nomadic, your link was incomplete, assume you meant this thread theres also other shadow tweaks and mods if you search skyrim-nexusmods with the terms shadow fix and improved shadows
  7. ok found out how its done with the creation kit. Theres a thread describing what to do here and looks pretty easy. but you need to sign up to the forum first. It involves using the "spf xxx" console command to save your character face, then importing it to be a facegen preset, so next time you open the showracemenu, itll be one the presets for that race
  8. jeez yea way to necro a 3 weeks old question, the shame! Ive also got problem with those ice shards, with the impact force and knockdown effect. Your thrown off your feet and stunned but the npcs just keep firing it at you so you never get up, unless lucky enough to get thrown behind something or your stash of heath potions outlast their ice staff or magic rechage. I actually started a thread asking advice for it here getting some good suggests (and even accusations of necro posting thrown in lol) and Interesting i also use WIS IV but never suspected thats causing its, its not something ill uninstall just to checkout.
  9. oh right. so you going to update new graphics drivers? Its probably been tried allready but worth checking if deleting the skyrim.ini and skyrimprefs.ini (but not if your using a higher ugridstoload) to generate new ones helps. Itll make the game recheck your graphics card, and load the game at its recommended defaults if your not using an enb profile
  10. excellent, it works, so i checked both sets of exes the ones i apparently patched and the the normal ones (skse_loader.exe and TESV.exe) and both sets show 4096 virtual memory proving the 1.5.24.0 is officially LAA, nice one thanks for helping work it out :)
  11. ok i just tried Meminfo but nothing shows up, i run the game with skse, and also dont have a print screen key (or know what the equivlant is on this kb)... and not sure what to do to change it to number lock like it says you can. Atm im guessing the toggle key needs to be pressed for the onscreen readout to show up so just to get this straight, if its 4GB enabled, its just the virtual memory thatll be 4096 like in the screenshot
  12. hey fms1, soo, how dyou tell if its patched or not? and i dont understand the connection with virtual memory. Yea ive considered trying the MemInfo mod
  13. Hey im using the 1.5.24.0 version of Skyrim and have no idea if its set to use 4GB memory, Ive got 8GB installed but the game never uses more than 1.5GB and most of the time only about 900MB and thats with alotof high res textures but thought the game was now patched to be LAA ive even tried manually patching it with this 4GB patch discussed here where its suggested the game wasnt actually patched to be LAA and manually patching it corrects that, but not sure what version of the game they were talking about (latest as of April3) or what exactly they mean 'works', are you sapposed to see the TESV.exe in task manager using upto 4GB instead of less than 2?
  14. hey i use a 360 controller, but dont understand your question, what profile, what file, why would NMM have files relating to your xbox controller? Did you install a mod that adds hotkey profiles or something - the only way NMM would have something listed if you didnt use it to install a mod is if mod uses an esp/esm
  15. lol 'bumped out of sight' is a contradiction, you just bumped it so it can be seen again. Just so you know this isnt the most widely viewed forum, and guess people think your questions been resolved a million times and not worth answering. If you google skyrim flickering shadows youd see theres been alotof unhappy campers on this issue (btw how did you turn the shadows off?) Try the ini settings in this guide for a start
  16. with previous Bethesda games theres been a few tools that let you do that it face gen exchanger and fo3edit /tesivedit (even swapping faces between games) but these tools havent been built for Skyrim yet. The only way im aware to do it now is manually copying the slider postion details like described here if theres any news on new tools to do id also like to know Idk exactly how difficult it is using the creation kit to change it, but thats allways another option
  17. no thats not the problem, but have checked out a few other threads and might have a clue whats causing it, need to move a few things around but will update with how it went later allright, problem half solved. The clue was a mention of a new ini file in the Data folder here Turns out that little console process adds both an ini file and new esp to the Data folder, and thats the cause of the pink logo and broken saves. Removing the ini and esp, and restoring the ugrid 9 settings to the ini allows me to load those save files again. Guess i might try lowering it using the other method another time if im feeling lucky.
  18. undownloading lol, with Steam copies its allways good to backup the game folder before making any changes (soon as it finishes downloading) and yea if you cant even start a new game sounds like a mod conflict. Try uninstalling all the mods then starting a new game, add the mods one at a time, making sure each loads, and making seperate save points after each install.
  19. Ok to simplify what im asking itd help to directly show what i did 1. first backed up the MyGames/Skyrim folder 2. lauched the game 3. opened the console and typed setini "ugridstoload:general" 5 and enter, gave a confirmation message saveini and enter, gave another confirmation message refreshini and enter, gave a third confimation message 4. closed the console, and saved the game 5. exited the game 6. opened the Skyrim.ini and deleted three lines uGridsToLoad=9, uInterior Cell Buffer=50, uExterior Cell Buffer=100 and saved it 7. lauched the game thru the game launcher, got to the menu and exited (letting the game check the ini settings whatnot, This was when the pink logo first showed) 8. lauched the game with skse_launcher.exe. Noticed the pink logo again. Tried to load the last savegame. CTD 9. swapped the Skyrim folders thinking the backup Skyrim folder would be insulated from whatever screwed up 10. repeated step 7 11. launched the game with skse, pink logo still there, save games all still CTD
  20. yea latest official version 1.5.24.0 but dont wanto do that without good cause, three things could happen: either it fixes the pink logo and images or has no effect, or it goes and breaks something else. Not the best odds, and i didnt even know the exe could be altered like that, if it can be, what else have the mods and previous ini tweaks changed sofar?
  21. Im playing a new game now, nothing else can do. Its not so bad, managed to get a pretty close facegen to my previous character, and the first character was more of a test run making all the mistakes, leveling up without doing any quests, just focusing on what mods looked good, was getting kindof boring and unballanced but I still wanto know what the hell happend, and why the logo and load screens are STILL pink should i try redownloading the TESV.exe? Is doing that as simple as removing it from the game folder and lauching Steam and checking game integrity?
  22. no go, same old CTD, ive also tried just changing them to uGridsToLoad=5 uInterior Cell Buffer=18 uExterior Cell Buffer=36 thats what the latest save should be set to, but since its default adding it isnt necessary Im really curious since nomatter what the ini config used the game allways lauches with the pink Skyrim symbol so it isnt a corrupted save file or corrupted ini file, all i can think is its somehow corrupted the TESV.exe itself
  23. Hi ive been playing the game with ugridstoload 9 and wanted to try the mod Skyrim Distant Detail suggesting it should be 5 for performance reasons so attempted the tweak guide Skyrim Enthusiast Graphics method in the Faq section at the bottom to lower it without starting a new game. i tried it lowering it back to 5 exactly as descibed (and then deleted the three lines for ugrids and cell buffers in the ini) Now when i launch the game either thru the launcher or skse, the Skyrim logos turned pink and trying to load any save game shows one of the random images in pink then CTD, no error message. Ive tried deleting the skyrimprefs.ini and skyrim.ini but the logo still appears pink. I first tried loading the backup of my ini's and save files but same thing. The only thing that works is starting a new game, but even with this, the Skyrim logo and random load screen images are pink. I also tried loading the old saves while paused in the new playthru but they still CTD Does anyone know why these console commands to reset the ugridstoload completely broke the savegames? Apparantely theres another method (described in the comments) but ididnt see that before trying the one listed in the Faq
  24. lol, yea this game can get messed up fast, but texture packs shouldnt make it unstable at all, and 1GB vram should be fine. ive only got 726MB and run several texture packs without issue, at least at the start with zero mods completely vanilla it crashed every 20 seconds right upto finding Riverwood, then it was miraculously stable, and after that adding texture packs didnt harm anything, but a few occasions adding gameplay mods screwed something and only fix was to go back a few save points, guessing the save files get easily corrupted
  25. the only way changing ugrids to load breaks savegames afaik is going from a higher back to lower setting, and even then theres a fix to allow it now: see the Faq section at the bottom here but doesnt sound like thats the problem if you never got the game to load anyway. Have you tried deleting the skyrimPrefs.ini and skyrim.ini to generate new ones, ruling out any of those settings as the cause.
