  1. Hi, all! I'm hoping I can get some help and advice from all you experienced DA:I modders. :D I just recently purchased the GOTY edition from Origin and am tentatively looking at modding for the game, but I have some questions and concerns. I've modded the previous two DA games, all three Elder Scrolls games, Neverwinter Nights 1 and 2, and more, all with great success, but for some reason, modding DA:I looks downright intimidating to me. :P 1) I noticed that patching can cause issues with modding DA:I. Is it safe to assume that, since the GOTY edition includes everything released thus far and is labeled as the "definitive" version of the game, official patches will no longer be an issue in regards to adding mods? 2) Should I play through the game first without mods (even though I already hate the plastic-looking skin), or go ahead and start modding before I even make the first save? 3) If I do mod the game, where do I even start? I am at a loss as to what I need to do first. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. :)
  2. They were everywhere. It was impossible to complete the mission. They had gone down a fork in the Deep Roads that eventually broke off into a lava river, and an army of darkspawn had sensed them down a side passage. They were now nearly surrounded, hundreds of the foul creatures pouring from every cavern and crevice, and if they did not retreat now, they would all quickly perish... Half their expedition was already dead, pounced upon before most could even react. Hellish archers rained arrows on them, and an ogre outfitted in spiked armor was charging down their most stalwart of warriors. Celeste tried her best to counter them and give her comrades a fighting chance, slinging frost spells and spirit magic at them and doing significant damage... ...but she had just quaffed her last mana potion - the vial shattering on the stone of the Deep Roads - and it would not be long before she would fizzle out... Ser Gabriel stood in front of her, planted like a rock wall, shield raised to protect her from any projectiles and ensure she could use her healing powers if necessary. Both of them were at a slight distance from the rest of the group as they desperately tried to stand their ground and push back the darkspawn's advance. Never had she been more thankful for his presence than she was now, and she poured most of her protective magic into him, whenever he had to beat back stray hurlocks or genlocks... It was becoming obvious, however, that this was a losing battle. The surviving members began backing away as they fought, towards the one corridor that was left unblocked by waiting darkspawn. Shouts of "Retreat!" were heard over the clash of shields and swords, and Celeste did not need to be told twice. She was gasping for air and shaking, nearly deprived of all her mana, and Ser Gabriel began forcibly pushing her backwards with his armored body, keeping her on the move despite her weariness. She defiantly hurled a Winter's Grasp over the Templar's shoulder at a charging hurlock and froze it in place as they began to retreat in earnest, turning and running down the empty corridor and back the way they had initially come. What happened next seemed to occur in slow motion for Celeste as she glanced backward and made sure the Templar was following her. Flashes of memory became mixed in flashes of the present, and the clatter and clank of armor faded to silence as the scene unfolded before her eyes... She saw Ser Gabriel as he stood in a shadowed corner, keeping watch over her as she studied. She remembered the feeling of sickness and fear...and trying to ignore the very large, shining, silver, hunk of metal that glinted in the moonlight streaming from the tower window and distracted her so she could not read... The Templar suddenly halted in his tracks, his sword and shield slipping from his grasp as a crossbow bolt protruded from his throat, just under the bottom of his winged helm... She remembered her first accompanied walk with Ser Gabriel around Lake Calenhad, the Templar noticeably following far enough behind that she could not chatter his ear off as they went... He slowly sank to his knees, a gauntleted hand reaching towards her as he fell... She remembered the explosions in the Circle, the advance of the demons, and then suddenly plummeting away from the tower as Ser Gabriel smashed through the third story window and leapt through with her tight in his grip, the pair crashing into Lake Calenhad and nearly drowning as they struggled to swim to safety on the other side of the frigid water... She screamed his name but did not hear it, her mouth open but her ears deafened, her pale blue eyes wide, "Gabriel, NOOO!" A sword then punched through his breastplate an inch from behind as he was stabbed through the back, the tip crusted with blood, and all she could do was keep screaming, her voice shrieking but unheard by herself, "Nooo, NOOOO!" Their journey here, their small talks, her family, his family, their future... None of it meant anything anymore. Her blood ran colder than any spell could have made it, her stomach turned, and she lost her own footing. The harsh, terrible, terrifying world went black before her eyes as she fell unconscious...
  3. ***This is the RP thread for Shadows of Corruption. For the discussion thread, see here.***
  4. Mac, Mason and I have agreed to accept your sheet. However, considering your accumulation of warnings in other roleplays in the recent past, you're only getting one warning for this particular RP.
  5. Sorry, Mac. If you were having trouble keeping up in MM in addition to TOF, then I wouldn't think you could handle this one in addition to TOF, either. We have the same posting rules in place.
  6. Name: Celeste LeVenoisel Gender: Female Age: 24 (born 9:08 Dragon) Race: Human Class: Mage Specialization: Spirit Healer Appearance: Celeste has very large and pale blue eyes, thick but straight golden blonde hair, and a fair, almost porcelain complexion. Her face is thin and oval-shaped, with a sharp nose, chin, and cheekbones. Her brows are thin, her hair loose around her shoulders and usually brushed straight back from her face. She has a slight frame, but stands at around 5'6''. Armor/Clothing: Celeste wears a pale blue robe made from several layers of swirling silk, some lighter in color than others. It is trimmed in gold piping and sports a matching pair of slippers and gloves. A gold sash bound tightly around her waist accentuates her graceful figure. The neck is high and fastens with gold buttons. Weapon(s): A simple-looking oak staff, the head carved into the shape of a dragon. It casts a base enchantment of frost damage. The well-worn grip suggests it is quite old. Accessories: A simple, shining silver pendant, shaped like a crescent moon and hung on a matching chain, which slightly enhances Celeste's mana reserves. Personality: Celeste has a combination of her father's refined tastes and her mother's adventurous spirit. She has a light, kind, and caring personality, though she can slip into solemn brooding at times. She is easily lost in her own imagination, and she is also fairly excitable when situations seem favorable to her. Celeste possesses a trove of knowledge, most of which average people would find useless, so she is happy indeed when someone takes interest in what she has to say. Family/Relationships: Margary LeVenoisel (Mother), Etienne LeVenoisel (Father), Linette LeVenoisel (Younger Sister) Background: Celeste was born to a wealthy Orlesian traveling merchant and a Ferelden mercenary. Her mother fell in love with her father when she was part of his hired escort team en route to Denerim. The two soon married and purchased a homestead near Redcliffe; a year later, Celeste was born. When the girl demonstrated magical talent at an early age, she was quickly whisked away to the Circle of Ferelden, and there she stayed for much of her childhood, teenage years, and early adulthood. Celeste passed her Harrowing with flying colors, but the experience left a mark on her that went unseen by the Templars and the First Enchanter. Having been confronted by a Desire Demon in the Fade, a Spirit of Purpose intervened and helped Celeste to drive the demon away. Celeste never told either the Knight-Commander or the First Enchanter about the event, afraid they would think she would have failed the Harrowing had it not been for the spirit's timely aid. In the days following, she would be occasionally contacted by the same spirit, and her confidence and strength as a mage only grew from then on. Before long, Celeste was recognized by the Circle as a talented Spirit Healer, the Spirit of Purpose fueling her healing and beneficial magics. Of course, this fact put her under a great deal of scrutiny by the Templars...more so than the apprentices managed to garner with their foolish and inexperienced ways. She was put under the watch of a young Knight-Corporal, Ser Gabriel Delaney, who acted as her escort to almost every place in the Circle tower and ensured that her possible turning into an abomination would not go unpunished. However, when the Fifth Blight surfaced and the Circle was shattered by Uldred, it was Ser Gabriel who managed to save Celeste from the rogue mage's clutches, and it was only then, after a frigid swim in Lake Calenhad, that Celeste suddenly came to an accord with him; he wasn't just supposed to protect others from her, but to protect her from others as well. Celeste was recently granted leave from the Circle by the First Enchanter, who was contacted by a wealthy collector wishing to hire a scholar for an expedition into the Deep Roads. The First Enchanter gave Celeste indefinite time away from the Circle for this task, trusting her to be capable enough to handle herself appropriately and to return home when it was time. However, the Knight-Commander was not so easily satisfied and ordered Ser Gabriel to accompany her, "just in case"...
  7. Welcome to the discussion thread for Shadows of Corruption . Here, roleplayers may post their character sheets, put up pics of their characters, discuss the RP, and handle any other OOC (out of character) business. *There should be no OOC posts in the RP thread itself.* Shadows of Corruption is a World of Thedas-based RP. You may know this worldspace from the Dragon Age series of games and novels. FreemasonGamer and I created this RP, and he has agreed to co-manage it with me. The story is one that begins approximately ten months after the end of the Fifth Blight, during which time Ferelden is recovering from the physical and emotional losses of the past year. The initial party is comprised of members from an expeditionary force to the Deep Roads through Orzammar, hired by wealthy and opportunistic collectors seeking to profit from the emptying dwarven tunnels. Unfortunately, it is here that things go terribly wrong, as they so often do... This RP starts in 9:32 Dragon. The ending of Dragon Age - Origins, for the purpose of this RP, will be as follows: - The Dark Ritual was performed. - The Warden-Commander (Elisabet Diane Cousland) is Queen of Ferelden, ruling beside King Alistair Theirin. - Amaranthine was burned, Vigil's Keep was saved. - The Architect and the Mother were slain. Also, here are some rules that should be followed when posting in Shadows of Corruption, originally made by Lisnpuppy. A few more rules to add: 11) NO RPing canon characters. If canon characters are requested and/or needed for interaction, they will be RPed by myself. 12) NO Grey Wardens or Mabari Warhound companions are allowed. You are limited to the classes and races provided in the character sheet below. Choose from those options only. 13) You are allowed ONE specialization during char-gen and ONE to be obtained during the course of the RP. The acquisition of a second specialization must be approved by the RP founders. 14) No teleportation. For one thing, it can get really OP very quickly. For another, it causes pandemonium. 15) No strong sexual content. Just because your character/characters are in a relationship it doesn't mean that everyone wants to read what they are doing in their private time. 16) All members are expected to post in three weeks' time. Members who do not post within three weeks of their last one without mentioning RL issues, etc. will be removed from the RP. If something arises that keeps a member from the RP, they can just let either myself or Mason know, and that member will be excused from posting until he or she can officially return. 17) The main character limit is ONE. No more than that, so choose wisely. Side characters are allowed, but they must be in and out very quickly...no becoming a permanent part of the story. FreemasonGamer and I are co-founders for this RP, and thus, we share the right to enforce the rules. Additionally, it is important (not to mention courteous) to take turns posting. If you are waiting on a roleplayer to interact with you, and they have not posted in a few days, PM them...they may be busy or may have simply forgotten that it was his or her turn to post. Please be considerate. Character Sheet Format Name: Gender: Age: Race (Human, Dalish Elf, City Elf, Noble Dwarf, Casteless Dwarf): Class (Warrior [1 or 2 handed], Rogue [Dual Wielding or Ranged], Mage): Specialization, Choose ONE if desired (W - Champion, Templar, Berserker, Reaver, Guardian; R - Assassin, Bard, Duelist, Ranger, Shadow; M - Spirit Healer, Blood Mage, Force Mage, Shapeshifter, Arcane Warrior/Knight-Enchanter): Appearance: Armor/Clothing: Weapon(s): Accessories: Personality: Family/Relationships: Background: ***All character sheets must be approved here first before members are allowed to post.*** When you're ready to post, head on over here.
  8. Maydiira squinted at Kellak for a breath or two, then took his hand briefly, "I...understand. Thank you. I..." she trailed, as if she wanted to add something else, but then shook her head, "Nevermind. It is not important." This solemn atmosphere had dragged Abby out of her giggle-fit, and she rocked back upwards to sit and observe the remaining party silently, holding her knees to her chest as she did so. Meanwhile, Conall had been following Argyros rather closely, letting the dragon take the lead for a while. He had been so absorbed in thoughts of the hunt and other musings that he had not noticed the drow until she had already made her bizarre entrance. Seeing the flash of red and the waving map made him impulsively ready his crossbow, and a slight glance to his left revealed that Argyros had also knocked a silver arrow in that brief time. Conall narrowed his eyes at the figure, taking her in quickly in the dim evening light, and he was about to say something when We'tak appeared beside them, his usual barrage of questioning interrupting Conall's focus... "We'tak!" the werewolf finally snapped, blue eyes glaring, "Not all strangers are friendly and not all drow are Maydiira...would you please exercise some caution before you kill us all with your curiosity!" With crossbow and longbow still trained on this drow called Sin, Argyros took up the lead, silver eyes studying the stranger who hung upside down as she spoke to them before he finally replied in a rumbling tone, "You are lost, then? I suppose it is mere coincidence that you are the second drow to approach us in less than a tenday?" The dragon-in-elf form noticed that Sin seemed to have a great grasp of Common...
  9. Kat let out a small sigh of relief when the tension seemed to ease between Ben and Rose; from what it looked like, it was just an unfortunate misunderstanding. The professor was glad they wouldn't start out on this still more-than-slightly unbelievable journey already disliking each other. That would make the already bad situation even worse... Before she could contemplate any more, however, Gawain inclined her head to Ben's words, "Indeed. We have dallied enough, I think. There is a tavern a league up the road from here where you can obtain refreshments, should you need them. Until then," the knight then whistled sharply, and from the far treeline came two young squires - young women, of course - riding their own horses and leading two spare coursers and two pack mules. They approached to follow their mentors' orders, their curious eyes glancing towards the newcomers every now and again. The knights themselves then fluidly swung their steeds around, unhooking their left feet from their stirrups and offering their hands to Katherine and Rose. Kat blinked, and Dinadan picked up on her hesitation. The knight winked, speaking from her position near Rose, "I do not know what the custom is wherever you are from, but here, it is shameful for a lady to walk the roads whilst they may be carried." Gawain, who was closest to Kat, looked down at her and gave her a small nod. The professor glanced at her shoes; sandals weren't exactly great long-distance hiking or trekking footwear, and they were already nearly ruined from the rainwater. Plus, she thought it would be rude to refuse the offer...especially when it would involve pretending she didn't like it.... Biting her lip, Katherine tucked her hair behind her ears, then took Gawain's gauntleted hand, putting her foot in the now-free stirrup and allowing the knight to assist her in swinging her other leg over the horse's back. There was plenty of room behind the saddle, so close did the cantle hug the knight's form. As she settled her weight and Gawain replaced her left foot in the stirrup, Kat clung to the side wings of the cantle that wrapped forward towards the knight's waist, unwilling to hold on to the glittering sword belt for fear it would be improper. It was only then that she looked towards the ground, and her hazel eyes grew wide as she realized just how tall this warhorse was...
  10. The knight called Dinadan watched the tan-skinned girl approach the warhorse, and, likely unnoticeable to the stranger, the rider tightened her grip on the reins to keep the stallion in check; the bay knew how to bite and would if it sensed a threat. Judging from the almost child-like curiosity with which the young lady regarded the steed, she meant no ill-will, and so the knight said nothing, but merely offered a knowing smile and a small nod of reassurance. Meanwhile, Gawain glanced sideways to her comrade, "'Kerensa'? Does that sound Cornish to you?" "Aye, a bit," Dinadan replied, "Ask Tristram when we-" At that moment, a certain amount of hostility seemed to be rising between the tanned girl and the lad who had just introduced himself as "Benjamin the Moccasin"...whatever that was. Dinadan's horse began to tense from the agitation in the air, and as much to calm the charger as to ease the tension, the knight breathed a low, "Whoooa there..." Kat took a step back from the two Native Americans, as Rose looked like a cat ready to pounce on Ben. Gawain then raised a brow at both Ben and Ardan, grey gaze nearly frigid in its intensity, "There will be plenty of time to speak, of course. Though I think it would be wise for you to sort out your troubles between you before we complicate matters with our own, yes?" "They do not look to be good comrades, from what I have seen thus far," Dinadan remarked, "Unless a great amount of silence, trepidation, and slight aggression are signs of friendship in your homeland?" Kat offered a weak smile, "Not usually, no..."

  12. As Maydiira watched the spectacle unfold between Rameses and We'tak, the drow's mouth slowly dropped open, her silver eyes wide. Then, she snapped her fingers to release the faerie fire enchantment, quietly muttering, "Well...I didn't quite mean for that to go the way it did..." The winged drow's words were nearly drowned completely out by the nonstop giggles that had overtaken Abby. The little half-dragon was laughing so hard that tears were streaming from her eyes, and when she couldn't make any more noise, she still laughed, just silently. Rhaine, however, torn between wanting to scold We'tak, wanting to reassure Maydiira, and simply baffled by the sudden turn of events from casual conversation to outright brawl, slowly stood and made her way over to Kaliste, beginning to care for the horse to both occupy her mind and do something productive at the same time.

  15. So far, approved! :D Welcome aboard, Lisn. :)
  16. 10-15 is fine. That's actually a pretty good level range for our party. Dying is all up to the owner of the character. If the owner allows a mortal wound to be taken by the character in question, they can let the character die if they so choose or have them healed. Or, since Rhaine's a resurrecter, you can choose for her to raise them if they die during combat. Makes for some nice drama. :D
  17. Yeah, josh is right. If you've got a statted character already, you can use the stats you have to gauge skill for writing purposes (how exactly to act or react to certain situations). But we don't roll dice or anything like that, so the numbers themselves are all but useless in this RP. We go more by realism...so, for example, combat damage is appropriately written rather than in terms of hitpoints. :P Not sure where our lowest character would be (5? 8?), but chars like Rhaine and Leif are 30+. So there's a pretty large range. Just as added info, another thing we really don't use are spell components; it's just too much trouble to keep track of. I like to streamline things where it's less technical, so it feels more like writing a novel than playing tabletop. :D

  20. Kat felt extremely nervous as the knights rode nearer; she pulled at the hem of her blouse as her eyes locked on the riders. They seemed larger-than-life as they pulled to a halt not far in front of the group, and despite the presence of Merlin - even if they all were exactly who they said they were - she was not comforted. Regardless of the gentility and chivalric nature that the romances and legends ascribed to the Knights of the Round Table, it could not be forgotten that they were, first and foremost, accomplished warriors... "I don't-" Katherine began to answer Ardan and Andre, but was cut off as Merlin enthusiastically approached the two knights. "Ah! Finally!" the wizard woman gestured to the closest, the one Kat knew to be Gawain from the star sigil, "I had hoped you would make it in time." The addressed knight then raised...her...visor, a feminine face visible to all, then. Framed by the helm, Gawain's female features were sharp and angular, with a pair of bright and pale grey eyes peering at them from under the shadow of her visor. Her complexion was neither fair nor ruddy, but somewhere in between, her bold brows a red-brown color and furrowed slightly at the elderly sorceress. "We departed Camelot as soon as we received your summons, Merlin," the low-pitched woman's voice with which Gawain replied was tinged with a Scottish highlander's accent, "If we are late, then only the weather can be to blame, not a lack of urgency on our parts." Beside Gawain, Dinadan raised her visor too, revealing a softer, fairer, and rounder face with a welcoming grin and glittering brown eyes, "The good Sir speaks true, Merlin. But what say you? Are these the folk we are to escort?" Dinadan's tone was lighter and cheerier than Gawain's, with a distinct English flair. Merlin then gestured back to the group he was leading, "Indeed! These are your charges. I trust you will get them to Camelot in one piece?" "You have our word," Gawain gave an affirmative nod. "Good," the sorceress replied, "Take them straight to Arthur so they may begin their quest." Turning to the group itself, Merlin then added, "And all of you...whatever Gawain and Dinadan tell you to do, do it! If they tell you to hide, you hide! If they tell you to run, run! Trust them to know what they are doing and do not take any chances...this has become a dangerous world, as dangerous as the times before Arthur, and you are too precious to lose to folly!" Stepping back, the famed wizard took a small bow, "It is with this advice that I leave you, and I pray you are successful in your endeavors. May God favor you and luck be always with you, my young friends." And with that, Merlin began walking back towards the fort, turning the group over to the care of the lady knights. When the wizard disappeared, Dinadan was the first to speak again, "Well, then. I suppose introductions are in order. I am Sir Dinadan, son of Brunor." "And I am Sir Gawain of Orkney, son of Lot and nephew of Arthur," the other added. There was a long pause, and Kat was uncertain of who was supposed to speak next. Afraid to prolong the silence any more, the professor went with her gut and blurted, "Kerensa...a pleasure to make your acquaintance, good sirs." She gave an awkward curtsy in her jeans, and her cheeks reddened. She had no idea why she had subconsciously decided to use her RenFaire name, but after thinking about it, it made more sense than going with her real one.
  21. ***Zephyr Kronos is receiving his first official warning due to not posting within a week of his previous post.*** Zeph, you have one more week to post before you're out, as per the RP rules.
  22. Seeing his fellow party members seemingly so reluctant to eat yet another meal of hard, tough, and nearly tasteless rations, Argyros looked sideways at Conall and indicated his bow, "Say...fancy an evening hunt? Perhaps we can bring in something a bit more satisfying than trail food, yes?" At this, the werewolf paladin raised his brows and then nodded, "Aye, a good idea, my friend. Rhaine, with Selune's blessing, we'll be back with a better meal before nightfall." He inclined his head to the Doomguide, to which she gave an answering silent nod of approval. With that, the two hunters made towards the thicker wooded grasslands to the east, past the small pond that Rhaine had pointed out earlier. Abby then wordlessly shoved her rations back into her pack and prayed to Tymora the two silver-clad warriors would prevail in their quest for fresh meat. Maydiira, meanwhile, somewhat amused by Kellak's comment and We'tak's interest, grinned and remarked, "There are many uses for this, as well." She flicked her wrist, and, suddenly, We'tak was limned in bright blue faerie fire. For some reason, this elicited a storm of giggles from Abby, who rocked back on her bottom and kicked her legs up and down as she laughed.
  23. I still don't get where you got the impression that I meant highly polished, ceremonial armor. That was a definition you incorrectly applied in your post that was not in mine. I merely stated the armor was "shining." I did not state the degree of shine or if the armor was polished at all. Even dull armor will shine in sunlight because it is metal. This is what Lisn was talking about, I think. You made up something I never stated directly. And armor was polished, ideally every day, by the knight's squire, and even poor knights had squires, pages, or other servants. It was the squire's responsibility to make sure it was clean and well cared for. Polishing may have been labor intensive, but just because it was a lot of trouble didn't mean it wasn't done, even in a battlefield setting. It was required to oil the armor in order to act as a rust preventative and to produce a slick finish that would help blows glance off the surface of the metal. Battle armor was indeed plain, as you say, but plain does not mean unpolished - and in the case of wealthy knights, this doesn't mean entirely unadorned, either. But back to the problem at hand, the information in your post, voiced by your character or not, did not match the description I laid out in my own post. Hence, the recommendation for the change, because your words imply something I never said. "They were in ceremonial armor, it was too polished to be anything but" is a statement that is false, provided by your narration alone. You are applying something to my NPCs, which I never allowed or implied myself. This is dangerously close to breaking rule #7: "7) No godmoding!! Remember, you only control YOUR character and not others. When you RP, do not take over the actions of other Rpers." In this case, putting something on my characters that was never there. It seems like a small thing, and it didn't really ruffle feathers, but it is going into the area of controlling someone else's characters. That's like me saying merely, "Johnny walked into the room," and you saying in the next post, "Johnny was wearing a baseball cap and a jacket." You added information that was neither originally there nor allowed to be made up about my characters. In an RP, you take what the writer says at face value and don't add any more to it to embellish it as you see fit.
