Just got this very same bug, max affinity and got the perk. End of conversation. Did a couple quests and dismissed him to get affinity with another companion and forevermore Preston just wants the max affinity conversation. Yeah his constant help settlements conversatiions are annoying but even more annoying is him wanting to repeat the same conversation and only that conversation. A fix for this would be greatly appreciated. *edit, Fix is "completequest compreston" console command.

In response to post #45164085. #45177030, #45180970, #45190555, #45193160 are all replies on the same post. Ill be honest to me this looks like just another popularity contest prize. I wouldn't be surprised if every mod in staff picks has been in Hotfiles, file of the month, or if not in one of those by a popular mod author. I would much rather never see a well known mod or author in staff picks but obscure and high quality mods. Hidden gems if you will.

Heres a video of it in the game. Both shield and hands show the gauntlet like it is clipping when it isn't.
-
There was no NiAlpha in any of the meshes and the vertex alpha isnt checked in any of the meshes. The transparency happens to other meshes and not just the one that causes it like yesterday I saw the gauntlet that goes with that above outfit also does it and really bad with a shield in the game. Looks like it is 3/4 the way through the shield when there is no clipping at all. Today I spent about 4 hours trying to fix it... I have swapped the BSLightingShaderProperty to the one from the original model and that didn't fix it, what does fix it is swapping out the BSDismemberSkinInstance but that breaks the mesh in the game.
-
Ok so in 5 years nobody has had this problem or they just don't want to answer, gotta love asking for help here lol. I used Bodyslide to fix it. Export as an obj, delete it, import the obj, copy bone weights, set dismember, add textures, export nif, import into max, export right away. import opposite body then move verts to fit and finally export as the other weight version. I would love to know if it can be done in Nifskope though.

I am having a problem with a skirt mesh causing some transparency issues after redoing some vertice weights in 3DS Max when zooming out. I have swapped the BSLightingShaderProperty to a vanilla one that came with the game, tried the one Max exported, tried the one from the old version. faced normals, smoothed normals, flipped normals, flipped faces, updated tangent space a billion times and it still causes this problem when zooming out. So for fun I swapped out the BSDismemberSkinInstance for the old one and the transparency problem went away but ofcourse there is a vertice explosion in the game because I also removed some hidden faces and flipped a bunch on the bottom of the skirt that were facing the inside. Comparing them both and the only difference is the number of vertices and weights that I can see. Anyone know how to fix this problem without having to redo it all? Contraptions is Out - First Impressions
jet4571 replied to RaffTheSweetling's topic in Fallout 4's Discussion
Worth less than Horse Armor was for Oblivion. Complete waste of a $5 bill when it is worth 2 quarters. The only thing substantially new and not already done with mods is the conveyors/factory machines, fireworks, ball track, and... umm a few random items like the pillory that doesn't fit the whole DLC in any way shape or form. The fireworks are terrible to say the least, bloody camera shake. I dunno about the rest of you but in my 45 years on this planet as a citizen of the US I have never ever had that effect on the 4rth of July because of the fireworks. Ball track is useless. It doesn't do anything cool, doesn't boost happiness, doesn't really do anything at all but let you watch a half assed rube Goldberg machine that's really really slow and depressing that end results in the ball on the ground and nothing else. it's like an employee said "Hey, I made all these parts and we didn't make the rest lets just throw these into the DLC because the idiots will eat it up". serious half assed BS in that ball track, if it was a mod it would get 2 endorsements on day 1 and maybe 12 by day 365. The conveyors and factory machines.. that's the cool stuff in this mod, that's what the 2 quarters overpay pay for if alone but the rest of the package is just right. -
Fu...c...k me another topic... "Bethesda are like a father who left you at birth with all the tools you need to survive. They weren’t there for you, they haven’t looked after you or protected you when you needed it, but they did leave you to fend for yourself with some pretty good tools. Sure, without them you wouldn’t have ever existed and the tools they provided were invaluable in staying alive, but ultimately it was you, the person with the tools that made you the person you are today." Umm no. Mod tools are not always given to make mods and though helpful not always needed, Take Mass Effect 1-3 mods. Take mods for Skyrim or FO4 before Bethesda released the CK. "Daddy came home and passed out on the couch after his latest bender and for the next two years you walked by and poked him with a stick to see if he twitches and he didn't". Is a better analogy.

Another topic.. DMCA was never meant to be the first response. It was always meant to be the last response and the first for legal action. Copyright holders were supposed to still make a request to the offender to remove the copyright violation in good faith without starting a legal battle when doing so. DMCA was for when the in good faith requests failed and the copyright owner is saying the next step involves a courtroom. The Nexus rules and moderation follows what the DMCA was meant to be, a last resort before a lawsuit. Robin, please don't go corporate, all your hard work will be trashed and all copyright claims will require a DMCA to get attention even if it is against the spirit of the law... Spirit that's dead and rotted away thanks to corporations.

Different topic so new post... "End time-out, resume play." About just above that. I am against consoles in general. Not the users, they are just someone who enjoys games. I am against consoles themselves because they are holding back game technology and in a sense computer hardware across the board as well. Last gen consoles lasted what 10 years? 10 years of the same outdated when first released hardware? Back in the 90's PC gaming pushed hardware makers to make faster more powerful hardware and the advances were fast paced and meaningful to keep up with new games. Even Intel was advertising and upgrading because of games. Running the latest game the fastest was a selling point even if it was for an office typewriter replacement. Then comes cross platform games and all that came to a slow crawl. No more was a PC game pushing the PC to it's limits and had so much more to show if the PC was better. Today even the minimum specs are not correct. I have an I7 920 and a GTX 750TI and can run vanilla FO4 at ultra settings even without the shadow problem Gopher was having on his much better hardware(I so wanted to tease him too). If November 2016 was 1997 instead and I had the same aged hardware and FO4 was just released with specs similar to any game of the era I wouldn't even be able to see the main menu. Yet I can play on ultra settings today? That is because of the last generation of consoles and now the current generation being outdated hardware before they are released. Consoles have held back advances in gaming and in hardware by 10 or more years. That's not the console users fault, it is Microsoft and Sony's fault.

"However, the real issues stem from Bethesda’s flagrant disregard for the existing community and their naivety, arrogance and/or ignorance of how the community has worked these past 14 years (since Morrowind)." Factually incorrect. The mod community here at Nexus didn't start with Morrowind but well before it. Many members through the years are from other mod communities outside Nexus and have had the same respect each others rights rules. Some of us started modding games before DMCA was a thing. I joined a year or two before Skyrim was released because I picked up Oblivion on sale but I started seriously modding games in the mid-late 90's and way back then mod theft was against the rules and crediting fellow mod authors if they let you use their stuff was the rule to follow. Nexus has built upon those rules and respect and made a platform for mods that is in itself worthy of respect. So Robin, Hubris broken?

Interior/Exterior Wokrshop Menus/Items
jet4571 replied to Deleted4363562User's topic in Fallout 4's Discussion
I have an annoying problem like yours but I cant script my way out of a wet tissue paper sack. I made 7 new crops and there is no way to have them add whats harvested without changing the whole settlement quest and script. The crops work perfect as they are but sadly cannot be done as a furniture item and be a crop because you can only assign a settler to one item. Crops get assigned in groups and the NPC may never farm any of the ones they are assigned to so an on use function wouldn't work. There is no way I am adding my 7 crops to the settlement quest so they randomly appear in the workshop container. Adding defense values is easy. Add the "Safety" Actor Value and set it for whatever you want such as my WorkshopGuardPostFurniture has it set for 20. WorkshopArtillery is set for 6. If you want a defense value of 999 by default then add the Safety Actor value to your workshop and set it for 999. -

Make it a furniture item like a chair and script it to add from a level list to the workbench container everytime it is used? -
Vaporware DRM - Developer discussion
jet4571 replied to Jeoshua's topic in Fallout 4's Creation Kit and Modders
I am against this. Mod authors do not need DRM. Games do not need DRM. All this is going to do is lower the quality of mods over time by making more secrets of the trade. What we need is, well thats easy! we need mod hosting sites to act like The Nexus does nad have a zero tolerance for mod theft and have volunteer staff like the moderators here to go over the reports. More locking isnt the answer and is counterproductive. -
Except you grant them all those rights when you upload your mod to Bethesda.net / use the CK. Go read the EULAs if you don't believe me. That granting of rights isn't exactly legal and would go buh bye in court faster than a prisoner peeing on the judge. They can put anything in a EULA they want regardless of being legally binding or not. If you port the Wolf School(default) armor from Witcher 3 to FO4 that doesn't make it Bethesda's property regardless of what the EULA says. Triss armor? Yennifers? If you made a box out of a standard primitive in the student version of 3DS Max it doesn't make it Bethesda's property and they can sell it. If they ever tried to enforce that part of the EULA they would be stating that they own copyright material from many other corporations and some of them have the funds to totally screw Zenimax over such as Autodesk and they will be pounced on and sent straight to bankruptcy. The only reason for those clause's in the EULA is so Bethesda can steal concepts from mod authors and put those in the next game or DLC and possibly emulate the look of items. They do not even need that since it would be derivative work but CYA. Then you get to the question of is a EULA a binding contract? Last time I checked that requires a signature and a notary public or equivalent witness to said signature. Simply clicking the bugger off "Ok" or "I Agree" button is not a signature no more than the old school open this and you agree BS it used to be on the CD cases. EULA's are not binding contracts regardless of what any corporation wants you to believe and they so much want you to believe they are. Get invited to a private beta test and they want an NDA, that NDA better have a notary public stamp on it or they wont give you the stuff to test. Binding contract. you don't need a notary every time you say bugger off to the EULA but that's supposed to be a binding contract? Yeah doesn't work in court.

Suppressor Noise Level, the Mod itself or the Projectile?
jet4571 replied to NexusFiles's topic in Fallout 4's Discussion
Theres a detection setting, high medium, silenced... that sort of thing that is separate from the sound itself. NPC's don't actually detect sound so you could give a rifle with a silencer a sound file that's louder than a mini-nuke but set it to silenced and they will react the same as any silenced weapon. That's how they determine to react to a sound or not. But you also have line of site and distance away but that is determining weather they get involved or not and is what prevents any fights downtown from drawing all enemies in the exterior from going to that fight. Loud would be the maximum size of that detection radius and quiet would be the minimum. So if you want something that will attract enemies in the room you are in and maybe the next room you would choose quiet, 2-3 rooms over you would choose loud. With the projectile it is the same thing except the radius is much smaller, quiet may attract the NPC right next to what you hit while loud may get the interest in an NPC on the other side of the room. I don't know the radius or the math involved but you can test it to determine what one to use by seeing how much agro and how far away with each shot. -
This is what happens when you support console modding.
jet4571 replied to Mitigate's topic in Fallout 4's Discussion
It would be impossible and unprofitable for them to do this. If that were the case no mod could be made and tested and if it can be made and tested without uploading and then downloading then there is nothing stopping it from being downloaded from somewhere else and treated as a test. Then if it did require the alpha stage mod to be uploaded then downloaded to be tested on the authors PC they are going to be losing all their profit from selling the game to pay for the bandwidth itself, think they want 500 GB uploaded and downloaded dozens of times a day for a week straight compounded by each and every authors own mod plus all the bandwidth from the finished mods? Nexus spends over 400k a year with just the finished product, compound that with unfinished huge projects, hundreds of tests a day for each unfinished mod then the hundreds of thousands of mods that are made for the author only and will never be made public. Shareholders wont be happy watching the profit go away because of wasted bandwidth. -
Yay, glad to see that ad company getting the boot, over 100 meg download speed and I needed an ad blocker just to navigate the site faster than a 56k modem could and the stupid ads would refresh themselves and freeze the page until it was done so reading long descriptions was a pain.

Changes to our file uploader and large file uploading fix
jet4571 replied to TheTokenGeek's topic in Site Updates
No issues with it yet, though the title becoming a non NMM manual download is now taking a ridiculously long time to become available while the NMM button and the manual download buttons are available right away. If anything there has changed it is just the time for the title to change from grey to green has increased. New uploader is sweet though, Sometimes I have wondered if my browser or upload has crashed with the old one, now I can see that it is doing something and not froze up. And on that note uploading images in mass was faster tonight so something was changed but not noted that improved that a bit. New uploader is a good change in my opinion. -
It is allowed to make a mod with posters of apocalyptic movies?
jet4571 replied to Wili's topic in Fallout 4's Discussion
Thats something I doubt the movie companies would claim as a copyright violation. Yeah lets sue the free advertising for using the material we made for advertising purposes being used the way we made them to be used in. The only way they would say anything is if you photoshoped their text off the poster and replaced it with your own for your own ad or try and sell the ad photoshop or not. But that still doesn't change the fact that they are protected under copyright law as the movie they advertise is. So same rule applies as anything, permission to use unless it is in the public domain. -
Fallout 4 Creation Kit Beta and an Important Notice to Survival Testers
jet4571 replied to SirSalami's topic in Site Updates
In response to post #37060890. #37061240, #37061310, #37061330, #37061370, #37062250, #37063400, #37063635, #37063720, #37065880 are all replies on the same post. Yeah I figured that was the problem, it's not just the login but requiring the launcher to use the CK and all the idiotic changes they have been doing since Skyrim's last DLC was released. FO4 without certain mods is unplayable for me and never have I experienced that with any previous Bethesda game. -

Fallout 4 1.5 Update Public Service Announcement
jet4571 replied to SirSalami's topic in Site Updates
In response to post #36956040. #36961335, #36963150 are all replies on the same post. Manually add them to the plugins.txt and add an asterisk to the name. Only new step is the asterisk if you have been using the script extenders since Oblivion. Set Plugins.txt to read only and you shouldn't ever need to login to Bethesda to run mods.
