The GECK/Nifskope 2.0 cannot come out fast enough...
jet4571 replied to Davis237834's topic in Fallout 4's Discussion
Nifskope 2 Alpha is useless with new models right now and even more useless when there is no plugin support for 3DS Max or Blender.- 7 replies

Google is your friend.. so find Fallout4.ini on your computer. then search for "sResourceDataDirsFinal=STRINGS\ " without quotes. Change it to "sResourceDataDirsFinal=STRINGS\, TEXTURES\, MUSIC\, SOUND\, INTERFACE\, MESHES\, PROGRAMS\, MATERIALS\, LODSETTINGS\, VIS\, MISC\, SCRIPTS\, SHADERSFX\ " without quotes. The problem is FO4 is not looking at the folders inside your data folder but going directly to the .ba2 files. Above is the list of folders for it to check before the .ba2 files.

They fixed it with one of the later patch's as far as I know. Most people think it is like it was when the game was first out and if your mods were out of order you would get a CTD. Now it doesn't matter what order they are in except for preferences and then lower in the order wins. I think making the change for Skyrim was a beta test to see if there would be major problems so FO4 could have mods on consoles with as little knowledge of maintaining a load order as possible being required. Hell they may not even get the ability to set a load order and not be able to use 2 mods that change the same thing as well as change other things and move 1 above the other so their preferred mod is what's used.

Modular makes it easier to do as a team, the CK/GECK/Construction Set does not merge mods very well so only 1 person could make changes to the main esm/esp at a time. Modular allows for team members who work on different modules at the same time, so whoever deals with weapons can be making adjustments while the guy that does armor is also making adjustments. Otherwise you would use FO4Edit to merge and that will be a pain in the backside to remember every change and hope the merge doesn't stuff things up. If he was making the mod all by himself then yeah modular is more of a hassle but in a team it makes it simpler.

Heres a quick way to make very hard to crack passwords. Create a new text document and open it. Now randomly mash keys on your keyboard so you get something like dj5vp7;jQE:2ljwer1halk/jb9hl;sfj There's your new hard to crack password.

The reason BOSS or LOOT was needed was because having mods out of order would crash the game or mods had to be in a specific order to even work. Skyrim and FO4 no longer depend on load order like Oblivion or FO3/FNV. You can put Skyrim.esm or Fallout4.esm at the very bottom of your load order and the game will run just fine and all mods will work as intended. That makes LOOT or BOSS irrelevant. NMM or MO has a load order list that can be adjusted for personal preferences if you have 2 mods that change the same thing such as a large weapons overhaul and a single weapon change mod that changes the 10mm pistol and also adds a new weapon, put the overhaul higher up and the single below it so you get the single change or if you just want the new weapon you would put it higher in the list. LOOT or BOSS cannot make that decision for you "Do you want the overhauls changes and the new weapon or do you want the changes to the 10mm that came with the new weapon?" The answer to that question is what decides the load order and there is no software of any kind that can tell you what you prefer. Try it, rearrange your load order to be alphabetical and see if the game crashes on startup or mods don't work. You will be surprised if you think it will crash and mods wont work.

I doubt Zenimax would approve of them refusing to make a sale because a file was flagged as Read Only and I highly doubt they would even know who does it unless told.
-
Read only means they cannot change the file, so no they cannot remove the Read Only flag.

Its easy to do. Open your mod in FO4Edit and find what you want to add to a container like an assault rifle for example. Copy the FormID line (AssaultRifle "Assault Rifle" [WEAP:0000463F]), then find the container or level list you want to add it into and right click it and select Copy as override into...... and choose your mod. Now look for the section that has Items and a list of different items and right click on the "Items" line and select "Add". Edit the "NULL - Null Reference [00000000]" and paste the line you copied earier so it is AssaultRifle "Assault Rifle" [WEAP:0000463F] instead of NULL - Null Reference [00000000]. Last change the 0 in the count line just below to how many you want in it. For level lists it is the same process except you right click and Add to "Level List Entries" instead of "Items" and there is the "Level" line that makes it available at a certain level or higher for difficulty balance.

Before you set it as read only make sure the mods you want to use are in the list like the example below. Then set it to read only and that's it, you are done preventing updates from mucking up your load order. When you want to add mods unset the read only and add your mods then once done set it back to read only. HAHAHAHA!!!!! Funny Bethesda! You crack me up!

Yeah it probably is affecting the latest patch. Below is where the plugins.txt is usually located, replace ****** with whatever your login is for windows. Right click on plugins.txt after adding your mods to the list and select read only. The launcher cant reset it that way but to add or remove mods from the list will require you to uncheck read only every time. C:\Users\******\AppData\Local\Fallout4\plugins.txt

Apparently, the latest update deactivates all current ESPs
jet4571 replied to Thylbanus's topic in Fallout 4's Discussion
All the updates have been doing that, that's not news. Just set your plugins.txt to read only and call it good. -
Just a brain picking question regarding cloth physics
jet4571 replied to tomshepard308ci's topic in Fallout 4's Discussion
Yo ThrottleKitty, your name makes me think of 2 things, a cat being throttled or a cat in the drivers seat of a hot rod mashing the throttle while looking all serious. Just thought I would toss that out there since I am currently drunk. @tomshepard308ci The majority of your original questions is answered quite a bit for non Bethesda games tutorials. "Character animation and rigging" is one term for a Google search. Once you get an understanding of the basics that's used across all games figuring out what's used for FO4 is far easier to understand. Basic character rigging is confirmed, vertice weighting for bones is the name of the game for FO4 armor and clothing files(hairs are nothing more than an armor or clothing item just like the base body is). I really do suggest reading/watching Skyrim and older Bethesda game tutorials to get a basic idea of what's needed. FO4 doesn't need an _0 or _1 version of every armor/clothing because they realized bone scaling does the same thing with less than half the work to make it work so that part of Skyrim tutorials can be ignored in regards to FO4. Oh fun personal fact.. I think throttlekitty is one of the greatest mod authors for Skyrim. Always excellent work and advice coming from that kitty. -
Just a brain picking question regarding cloth physics
jet4571 replied to tomshepard308ci's topic in Fallout 4's Discussion
The longer hairs do use the cloth physics but they are all so short it's hardly noticeable. there's 9 bones called something like Hair_C_Cloth00, Hair_L_Cloth00, and Hair_R_Cloth00. Center, Left, and Right. Then numbered 00, 01, and 02. So it looks like it is the same system that HDT physics enabled hair in Skyrim uses. There might be clipping issues with longer hair than we got but yeah I am looking forward to hair that's longer than shoulder length. -
I need a home a real home not a settlement
jet4571 replied to gunslinger6792's topic in Fallout 4's Discussion
You can use FO4Edit to add furniture and stuff to any location, it wont be fun to do since you have only X Y and Z coordinates to place them and no way to see without going into the game. -

jet4571 replied to tomshepard308ci's topic in Fallout 4's Discussion
Ooooh did I pass the test? Lets all hope it doesn't become "Havok exclusively on Xbox One" and Bethesda chooses an even worse physics engine for the next title. -

You mean purchased by Microsoft from Intel? http://www.havok.com/havok-to-join-microsoft/ -
That cannot be done with the CK, you will need to use Nifskope and Blender or 3ds Max to scale the meshes.

It's not really needed anymore and hasn't been needed for Skyrim for quite some time. Load order is now preference and not required to be in a specific order. If you have 1 mod that changes the 10mm pistols magazine size to 10 and make it a master to one that changes it to 100 it wont make any difference in the order they are in the version with a magazine of 10 could be at the very bottom of the load order and you will have a magazine of 100 rounds. What sorting for load order you will need to do is based on preferences, 2 mods change similar stuff and also allot of different you would put the one that you prefer lower in the load order so it's similar changes are what's used. BOSS and LOOT cannot change your load order based on your preferences.

The only companies that lose trust after a breach are the ones that don't inform the users of it right away like Sony didn't tell users of PSN that there was a breach and credit card info was part of the breach. Even if it was a false positive and there was no breach it is always better to be safe than sorry and tell the users right away before confirmation.

Does it really need to be the best weapon available? Or could it be a fun weapon to have? I prefer the second option, fun trumps best.

The system requirements of this game are incorrect, I have an I7 920 and a GTX 750 TI with 16 gb of ram running the game at ultra settings+. According to the game launcher and NVidia GeForce experience I shouldn't even be able to play the game at low settings. As for the OP, it is an NVidia card so the higher number is always the better card unless it is a far older card like the 9800 GTX+ compared to a GTX 980.

I took the Nuclear option because somehow I knew taking the directors chair would be continuing everything as-is rather than taking a morally high route and giving the synths the choice and working with the wasteland population to rebuild. Bethesda has never been good with moral choices and this one proves it. It makes the perfect setup, become the new director and make a choice to help rather than abduct and control. It also leaves out the repercussions of the choice, the institute agrees and the commonwealth benefits or they disagree and you have mutiny on your hands. Bethesda does a good job with morally ambiguous choices but sometimes I think that's their attempt at black and white moral choices.

Quick Question: How to reset companions looks back to default?
jet4571 replied to 378825993's topic in Fallout 4's Discussion
Maybe use the resurrect console command on her. I know sometimes that helped the grey face bug in Skyrim when making changes to an NPC. Click on them in the console and type "resurrect" without quotes. If that doesn't work then yeah older save like Boombro said will.
