  1. Well, if your GPU is in working order then it's probably the codecs. Did you install any kind of codec packs? If you've installed multiple ones, then they may have conflicting settings or something. Try uninstalling any you have and using this one: Combined Community Codec Pack Not sure what it could be if that doesn't help. Also, CCCP (the link above) comes with Media Player Classic... you can use it to easily take screenshots of videos. Go File -> Save Image after loading a video. Alternatively, you can try loading the video into Windows Movie Maker and click the small button under the preview field to take a screencap.
  2. http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2097 Oblivion Mod Manager... you don't need to reinstall the entire game everytime a mod turns out bad. With this you can easily install and uninstall mods. It also has a 'Save Manager' under the utilities button. You can select a save and have a look at what .esps are linked to it. Your saves are kept in your My Documents/Games/Oblivion/Saves/ directory... back them up if you ever choose to format your harddrive. Also, here's a tutorial I made on how to use OBMM for installing and uninstalling mods:
  3. Unless you've installed some mods that altered taunt behvaiour/triggers then it's a mystery about why they don't get played. Perhaps the fights you observe end too quick? Try get a brawl going by raising and lowering the disposition of some people (purposely do bad in the disposition mini-game) and then start a fight. Try in the evenings in one of the Inns in the Market District... lots of NPCs gather there. Some will come to your aid and some will fight against you and your 'friends' you just made... then just use an ivisibility spell. If you don't mind using console commands, then you can just click on NPCs, note their ref ID and then click another NPC and type 'startcombat <refID>'. Do that to everyone around you and it's an instant winner. It should last for ages and then you can truly find out if your game is 'broken'. Oh and it's "I've fought Mudcrabs more fearsome than you!". :P
  4. ^ I'm sure there are many unnoticed changes to performance, functionality and security in this upgrade. Also, it's probably more readily supported with newer forum add-ons that are available if Dark0ne chooses to implement something. I like the design of the white skin for this forum... the whole dark theme was rather depressing.
  5. The player. He just gets slandered as a prisoner who's in the way at first... but when the Emperor kicks the bucket he's their only hope. He gets sent alone without backup into undead invested dungeons and ruins. He has to do the Town Guards/Militia's job of closing a gate just outside their city for every city in Cyrodiil. He gets chucked headlong into a place where there may not actually be a way of returning to fight versus someone who's able to wear the Amulet of Kings (which the player couldn't do). He pretty much does everything... so, surely he can become the Emperor. I mean, there's no question about whether he's 'fit' to rule since they were using a hereditary system to begin with!
  6. EDIT: Oops, my bad. Thought it was under Oblivion. >_<
  7. The members list page displays a 'Reputation' gauge. Oddly, some people already have 4.5 or so stars in their bar. Considering how the last system either was 'Give Kudos' or 'Don't Give Kudos' I wonder how it calculated those values. :P I like the light theme, I can see the borders to my av and sig now. ;P
  8. Tabaxi Race. http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=9870 You should probably have posted this in the mod detectives thread. :P EDIT: The reason I knew that doesn't have any relation to my avatar or signature. >_<
  9. I use spells created in the construction set like Nighteye, Light, Shield and such. I hate casting these spells over and over... so I create spells that last around 2 to 3 minutes in the CS with slightly more cost in magicka. I level my characters normally... but 'cheat' in a way to get all my progression bars to 0% once my skills reach 100. I'll purposely lower and raise stats by a few levels in order to get the progress bars to be perfectly on 0%. It's pretty stupid, but little things annoy me like that. I'll even modify quest mods that add factions. I HATE seeing the word 'DUMMY' as the next rank, modders should start doing it the Bethesda way and add a fake rank called 'None'. But that's not really cheating... I never use anything like TGM... There's already a 'god mode' called quicksave. ;) I spent ages clearing out a mine full of amazonian warriors (from OOO) at level 3 or so... Ended up with thousands of septims and a ton of half decent armour from the get go. Doing things the hard way feels far more rewarding.
  10. Yea, I always joked to my friends that I'll be going to play whack-a-mole when heading into BF2. It was just the most annoying thing ever. They managed to make a bad browser worse with one of their many 'patches' (which usually just added more bugs). The server would 'jump' to a random position in the list after you clicked on it.... You'd then have to find it again and double click as fast as you could and hope that it didn't jump away again. :/ Nevertheless, BF2 was still fun, despite it's many bugs and what-not. I occasionally feel like installing it again, but then I remember that I would have to download a 1GB+ patch that takes an unusually long time to install (at least for me). EDIT: Oh yea, removing and adding favourites was always a mystery to me.
  11. The amount of content you can get for Oblivion is simply staggering. Don't forget to install the 'Unofficial Oblivion Patch' and 'Unofficial Shivering Isles Patch' mods. There are many overhaul mods that iron out all flaws with the game. Leveling, skills, birthsigns, enemy ai, fighting styles, crime and punishment, player homes, animations, graphics, races, textures, distant LODs, music, items and a million things more. The game in it's vanilla form does have some annoying flaws... just google 'Oblivion gripes'. You'll eventually discover something you dislike yourself and you can rest assured that there's a mod to fix it. Oblivion is one of my favourites even after a few thousands hours of gametime (Yeah... really) put into it. I've been gaming on Fallout 3 a lot but recently returned to Oblivion. For $10 it's like getting a game + several thousand DLCs?
  12. I'll have to add that it's a bad idea to try and 'test out' a new site (that you may think is immitating another) by trying to login with your account and password. Of course in this case it was alright in the end, but still...
  13. You could perhaps try the SetStage command... you could get the quest BaseID and stage values from the construction set (or GECK). You can find the quest in the tree under Actor -> Quests. http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Finding_the_Garden_of_Eden Quest's name is MQ08 and it's base ID is: 00014E8E SetStage <BaseID> ## The GECK lists these values for stages: 10 - Log entry: Locate the underground entrance to Vault 87 15 - Log entry: Retrieve the G.E.C.K 20 - Log entry: Rescue Fawkes from the Observation Cells (Optional) 30 - Log entry: escape from Vault 87 200 - Log entry: <blank> So for example: SetStage 00014E8E 30 I'm not guaranteeing this will work though... make sure to make extra copies of your saves and what not before messing around with these. Personally I've run into a similar bug when reaching the Brotherhood Citadel, though I've not got the mod installed that you mentioned. The conversation between Li and the Leader would just not start. The way I fixed it was by quicksaving and quickloading repeatedly. They spoke a line each time I loaded... pretty tedious and annoying bug. Maybe with a bit of luck it'll help you aswell.
  14. Alright, I've been search and reading around for a while now and can't seem to find a solution for this problem: I have a 1920x1200 (16:10) monitor and use nvidia's driver options 'Use NVIDIA scaling with fixed aspect ratio'. This will correctly stretch an image as much as it can while preserving the aspect ratio, whether it be 4:3, 16:9 or 16:10. Eg: A resolution of 1280x1024 will be stretched to 1600x1200 (the biggest possible on my screen as I my monitor y value is 1200). Also I choose to run Oblivion in 1600x900 which gets stretched to 1920x1080 (my monitor's biggest x value is 1920). Both times, the aspect ratio is correctly preserved and black bars are added to the image as it should be while using as much of my screen as it can. But, with Fallout 3 no matter what I choose, anything below my native resolution of 1920x1200 or 1920x1080 will be letterboxed without being stretched. So I get huge amounts of black bars on the sides and top and bottom and a fairly small image depending on how small the resolution is. It displays it pixel by pixel basically. I tried changing some settings by setting the nvidia scaling options to just 'Use NVIDIA scaling' without the aspect ratio preserving part and even more strange things happen. Usually when selecting that option it should stretch ANY resolution to 1920x1200 to use the entirety of your screen, irrelevant of preserving the aspect ratio. But this doesn't happen... the images do get stretched, but their aspect ratio becomes even stranger. A 16:10 resolution of 1280x800 should clearly scale up perfectly to 1920x1200 without any black bars... but it does not; it gets stretched into 1920x940 for some reason with black bars at the top and bottom. The only thing I can deduct from that is that the game displayes the 16:10 resolution over 1600x1200 (a 4:3 resolution) and then just stretches it along the x axis to fit 1920x1200, resulting in this skewed 1920x940 resolution. Has anyone had any similar problems or have I missed some important settings somewhere in the INI that specify my default aspect ratio or something? I have tried searching around on google and so forth and fear that I'm the only one with this problem. I've tried all the usual updating drivers and so on.
  15. You need to install either FOMM (http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=640) and use the 'install tweaker' option to place a fake xlive.dll. ...or you can curse microsoft and download 'Games for Windows Live' v3.0 at the bottom of this page http://www.microsoft.com/games/en-us/about.../gfw3intro.aspx I came across this error just yesterday as I started playing FO3 again after many months away from it. It is very shoddy work from bethesda/microsoft to be greeted with such an unhelpful error when trying to simply play a game/install a patch.
  16. As you were asking for whatever else may improve peformance: You may already know this though as you mentioned INI tweaks... but it's possible to have skipped over articles/paragraphs talking about v-sync and this 'bug', seeing as v-sync is something most people know about.
  17. Played this game tons... well 466 hours 44 minutes and 5 seconds according to my stats. While the game was fairly buggy at times, only fond memories remain really. Infantry only servers were a right blast. Support with a MG36 and you just rack up the kills. The grenade spam at the start of Karkand would be unreal though on 64 man servers... all you would hear is "GRENADE!!", "FRAG GRENADE!", "FRAG OUT!" or "PUMBULA!" all the time. I would always stick to the big public servers though where anything goes. I hated those over-regulated clan ones... of which there seemed to be too many. I usually got a high amount of kills and end up being kicked for false reasons that they make up like 'spawn killing'. Obviously don't like much competition despite being a clan. Getting in a buggy and running people down on Wake Island was always hilarious... sounding the horn just before you hit. 'Jihad-Jeeping' would always be a good laugh too. Strap C4 to jeep, get in, drive to enemy tank/fav/infantry, jump out, detonate and watch the fireworks. BF2 offered tons of hilarious situations to occur. I remember one time hiding from the view of a tank and a few other units, deep in enemy territory, hoping to capture a flag on Karkand. I was squad captain and a member spawned on me, immediately throwing around ammo packs, "AMMO HERE!! GET AMMO HERE!!", needless to say I then had a few tank shells coming my way. Also, you start learning arabic after so long and don't even need to look at the chat when the commander yells out what he spotted. It takes some time to get used to the never ending commander chat though if you're new to BF2. Enemy Infantry spotted! Enemy Sniper Spotted! Enemy Infantry spotted! Enemy Tank spotted! Enemy spotted!. Oh and I'd love telling people that "You're the worst squad I've ever had the misfortune to see! My grandmother could do better!" when I was commander and they didn't listen to my order. I'd always praise ones that do though. It's always interesting to check stats too: http://bf2s.com/player/67373141/ I have 316 Knife kills and 99 Defibrillator kills! Maybe I'll install it again to get my 100th Defib kill. Some stats are odd though, the 'Death' column for weapons mean if you died while having that weapon out. Since there's no way that I've been defib killed 677 times.
  18. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v290/Olurum/newdesktop.jpg Recently got a new monitor and have been enjoying the 1920x1200 goodness. Although even with so much dekstop space I still hate having icons on it... even got rid of the recycle bin.
  19. Is that a staff? Or some multi-bladed spear of doom? There's a definite lack of good spear mods out there which would look nice in conjunction with the DMC Stylish Animations. I love using spears since playing Dynasty Warriors. My favourite vanilla weapon would be the Elven Dagger. Modded would be 'Nicos Scimitars': http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/images/1...-1206688121.jpg http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/images/1...-1206496689.jpg
  20. You just have to play on the big servers where anything goes. When I used to play I always played on a group of Norwegian Servers... I think TV2 was the name. According to my stats I had my last game on 2008-01-07 21:57:00 Maybe I should install it again to get my 100th Defibrillator kill... I'm on 99 at the moment. And oh wow... this brings back hilarious memories... I have 782 kills by Sniper Rifle, but 657 with Claymores. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v290/Olurum/screen036.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v290/Olurum/screen137.jpg Good times...
  21. Should post this in the Tech Support section. Anyway, is your computer overheating? Or does your computer only crash when playing Oblivion specifically? Also, when have these crashes started? Maybe try removing some of the mods that you installed around the time the crashing occured. Try to find it by process of elimination. Although this may be tedious if crashes only occur after 20mins+. Perhaps the crashes occur in a certain area? I once had a mod that crashed me whenever I entered a part around Bruma. And by any chance are you running Deadly Reflex? Despite it being really popular, it causes more crashes for me. Hopefully someone with more insight can help... you could perhaps post a list of your mods installed since you don't have too many.
  22. 9.5/10 for the Avatar. Seems to have a cool hologram/3D look about it, but can't read the writing! The sinister, gritty, dark looking sig get's a 10 though. This thread actually inspired me to finally make myself a sig. So below is my first ever sig, critcism appreciated!
  23. Out of all creatures I absolutely love to blast Feral Ghouls away... but I always felt there were too few of them. So I would love to see a 'Zombie/Ghoul Survival Mod'.
  24. You can even tell by the letters themselves. They start using lesser quality paper and are written in a different handwriting. The orders also tend to become alot more rambling with lots of insults directed at who is to die. Lucien never showed his emotions in his letters. Another thing I hate though is how Arquen remains unpunished. She and the other black hand members were stupid enough to think that killing Lucien would solve everything, even though they had no proof (hereby breaking one of the tenets). Then she confidently and gleefully announces to the Night Mother that the threat is gone, before being rebuked by her obviously... Therefore I wish you could just eliminate her and replace her with someone that has an IQ higher than that of a rock.
