  2. Been a fan of hers since I saw her first youtube video. She is on tour and if you have the opportunity to go see her show it is well worth it. Her performance/stage show at the event I went to was nothing short of phenomenal.

    27 virgins

Hmmmm….. live a just and pious life, die and the reward is wings and a harp or get 72 (or even just 27) virgins who serve my every whim? I think Christianity really needs to work on its incentive program.
  6. nudiustertian; the day before yesterday. "We contend that for a nation to try to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself up by the handle." - Winston Churchill
  7. sastrugi (or sastruga); ridges of snow formed on a snowfield by the action of the wind. Hitting one slightly on angle on an overcast day at about 35 miles an hour on a snowmobile has a tendency to ruin your whole weekend and is about equivalent to hitting a concrete parking curb. It was time for a new set of skis anyway.
  8. http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/22791/ Home Construction and Decoration. Has an Orc Long House. Best part is you can build anywhere. You can also build your own furniture with the workbench (build it at any forge) so you can decorate it as you want. I would also recommend Jaxon's Positioner (http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/52583/?) as it is very easy to use to position furniture (including what is made by the Home Construction and Deoration mod) and collectible items. It also has a duplicator so you can obtain anything you find in the game that you would like to have in your home. Also Solitude Furniture (http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/36384/?) as it has weapons racks that work and other furniture that can be purchased that are not in the Home Construction and Decoration mod. Hope this helps.
  9. augur; to conjecture or predict from signs or omens; prognosticate.
  10. He didn't "become" a god as such. Lore uses the term "apotheosis" which suggests that people began to worship him as a god - likely because of his accomplishments during his lifetime. It is not unheard of in various religions where an individual is extraordinarily virtuous and is seen as "godlike".
  11. Title threw me at first, but responsible media is another one of those oxymorons..... like government assistance. As for holding them accountable and responsible.... who exactly would do that; other than viewers who should stop watching (or reading) the drivel the media produces? The only thing that matters to the media is viewers, thus the sensationalism of every story they deem fit to report. It isn't news anymore, its entertainment.
  12. From the UESP Wiki.... at http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Bloodline If you refuse Harkon's gift and are returned to the boat landing, the quest A New Order may fail to start. http://images.uesp.net/6/66/Pc22.png You can fix this by entering either setstage DLC1HunterBaseIntro 20 or setstage DLC1HunterBaseIntro 30, followed by setobjectivedisplayed DLC1HunterBaseIntro 20 1 or 30 1 into the console.Know this because it failed to start for me the first time I played it.

    27 virgins

Urchins? I heard it was 72 sturgeons. The news media never gets anything right.
  14. I stopped using Avast because it installs spyware that tracks users web browsing habits, logs Internet histories and places advertisements into specific pages based on the users browsing patterns. A component called SafePrice adds shopping recommendations (those obnoxious ads everyone hates) as users are browsing the web. (https://blog.avast.com/2014/03/27/how-does-avast-safeprice-work/). SafePrice can be "deactivated" but not removed as it remains part of Avast and unless the user is constantly monitoring it, it can be reactivated at anytime. Avast has admitted to collecting user data for “storage and analysis”, but it isn't clear what they actually gather in regards to personal information or other data; they say they remove it (sure they do) before they sell the data to other companies. MSE and SpyBot are all I use and I have not had a virus or malware problem in years of internet surfing and I don't get loud obnoxious ads popping up when I do browse. Each to their own choice, but the collection and sale of data by so many companies, especially by those who offer "free" software (how do they make a profit by giving software away?), is going to be a constant threat to computer users who want to safe guard their computers.
  15. I wondered about the assassination of Narfi myself and found that in Norse mythology, Narfi (also Nari, Narvi) was a son of Loki and may have been a demon of the dead. The name Narfi could also be related to the Old Norse word nár, meaning corpse. Narfi apparently was killed by his brother (who had been turned into a wolf) and his sinews or entrails were used to bind Loki to a rock in a cave until Ragnarok. Thus, there are a number of considerations one can make about why Narfi was singled out for assassination; including the play on words by the game developers.
  16. dalles; the rapids of a river running between the walls of a canyon or gorge.
  17. Don't use AdBlock, never will as it tracks what you block and don't block and sells that info back to advertisers - so you are being tracked on the net whether you like it or not for ads. My solution works great for me as the ads one sees in many web sites are based on ones internet use. When ads start being obnoxious I just go to a car dealer web site and customize a car (I like Jeep and GM trucks as they seem to work best) or I go to a Tourism Site and look at booking a camping site or look at information on a national or local park. I do this and for the next 30 days or so all I see are quiet ads for cars or some tourist destination. The ads also do not tend to have music or sound and also you have to physically click on them for anything to happen. I figure I'm going to get tracked anyway, may as well see the ads and benefit the Nexus, but they will be ads I prefer to see. I don't know if this will work for everyone (I have no idea how advertisers work in the entire planet), but it works for me and some others I know.
  18. Torched the haystack. Found the needle.
  19. cicerone: (a form of the name Cicero) a person who conducts sightseers; a guide.
  20. I don't find many (just the one) of the quest lines in Skyrim abhorrent or to be avoided but, I do like examining the moral and ethical dilemmas the various quest lines present to the player and have even used some from Skyrim in the university classes I teach (its amazing how many students play TES games). Its fascinating how individuals justify their choices - pro or con. The game wouldn't be as fun I think without such dilemmas being present. And even though I don't have much of a dilemma in playing through the various quests, the one quest I cannot do and avoid like the plague is "Laid to Rest" in Morthal. The first time I ran across that quest I was so shocked I was ready to delete the game off the computer and never play Skyrim again.
  21. I don't believe that book exists in Skyrim. Its a book in Oblivion, but not Skyrim.
  22. Actually, I thought this was a pretty good question. About a year ago I found out there was a fencing club/group where I live that has a qualified instructor in Historical European Martial Arts and who teaches German Longsword techniques. I joined because being a TES fan I had often wondered about how hard would it be to handle a sword and it looked like a fun way to exercise. I was a bit surprised at the weight of the sword and believe me when I say my shoulders, elbows and wrists certainly let me know that using a sword isn’t the easiest thing in the world. I have gotten to where I am sparring now and it isn’t easy, but it sure is fun. I have used a bow (a recurve/long bow) for a number of years and am reasonably proficient with it, so bow use wouldn’t be a problem for me. Given the above, I could probably do OK – at least hunting for food and probably defending myself to a degree if I were to be transported to the Skyrim world. Clothes might be an issue as winding up in Skyrim in pants, T-shirt and slippers might make survival a bit of an issue, but I am used to cold weather (prefer it actually) and I am quite capable of survival in the bush so I doubt that would cause me much of a problem. It would depend on where one appeared in Skyrim. Showing up in Haafingar, Winterhold or the Pale might make it a bit more difficult, as would the Reach, but show up in Whiterun or the Rift, it might be somewhat easier to survive. I would certainly get to a town, preferably one with a mine or a mine nearby as I would think one could easily find a job (menial for sure) that would provide a few septims a week and at the very least room and board for work. I would think that gaining skills, such as blacksmithing, would not be overly difficult either as the owners would most likely readily take on a helper in exchange for instruction, so gaining rudimentary skills would be possible. Careful excursions in the immediate area of the town would also allow one to gather plants/ingredients to sell and given the country side in the game one could easily run across a weapon or some item that could be sold to raise funds or used to further one’s advance to becoming an adventurer. While it may take a few years, I think I’d probably make out pretty well as an adventurer in Skyrim.

  24. While I appreciate that there are movies about a US President being assassinated, pretty much every movie made that had an assassination plot against a US President (or other head of state) involved a fictional character. The movies I can think of that referred to actual heads of state were based on actual events or were a serious examination of events that did or that may potentially impact society. In any case, the movies did not advocate assassination, didn’t make fun of the idea of assassinating a head of state and had at least some thought provoking questions raised. The other movies didn’t make fun of a real (living) head of state or treat the assassination as a joke, which is what this movie seems to do. Again, I don’t deny that freedom of expression should be defended, but to what degree? If a movie made fun of pedophilia should it be defended as freedom of expression? The free expression of ideas and opinion is not just entertainment. Opinions influence individuals and even society as a whole and the freedom to express an opinion also holds with it responsibility and accountability. Or is it that anyone should be free to express any idea or opinion they want without any limitation, restriction, responsibility or accountability? I see at least one conspiracy raised here in the thread, so I’ll raise another. What if the movie was made to deliberately provoke North Korea into retaliating in order to start a war? Is this freedom of expression that should be defended? How offensive does a movie have to be and to whom before it should not be defended as freedom of expression? And while the movie in question is just a stupid movie that holds no interest for me and I couldn’t care less if it was shown or not; and honestly I don’t even care what it may provoke North Korea to do in retaliation, I only raise the question as something that I ponder, not as something I advocate as reason not to defend freedom of expression.
