I have used Avast for years and it just gets better, This was the software I recommended to customers when I had a computer business.
I also do a monthly scan with a non resident scanner by Emisoft.
Both do excellently in reviews.
IoBit Malware fighter also has performed well for me.
And also Spybot must get a mention and still picks up the odd extra spyware issue.
Lastly don't forget to keep your drive tidy with products like Dupzilla and CCleaner for unwanted crap so your scans have less to do. Then SCAN WEEKLY.
- AND ALL OF THESE PRODUCTS ARE FREE. No excuses now!

What bad Weather when i was just a wee lil demon spawn back in the middle ages the weather wasnt an excuse to stay in but the reason to go out.

Rain meant slipping an sliding getting covered head to toe in mud an taking more then one shower or bath because the mud went places that it shouldnt.

Hot weather meant we would get the pool out or have water fights or go swimming.

Snow meant we would go an make snow angels an have snow ball fights inbetween doing childish crap like eating the snow or pouring orange on an making free if not dirty slush puppies.

An if their was a storm then it just meant it was time to fly a kite an see if ben franklin was right.

The weather aint an excuse to become a c*%! ill all for hackers hacking but how about having them hack the bastards who deserve hacking like the damn banks an the crooked politicians taking money underneath the table.

Whats the point in hacking a mod site for but then kids are just that kids an todays kids aint smart enough to spell smart.

Uninstall your expired AV. In control panel make sure your windows firewall is enabled. If needed, depending on OS, install the free Microsoft Security Essentials. It's very thin, catches most everything, and doesn't spend a bunch of time on little reminder thingies that exist to show you it's running. Make sure your router is using NAT, if your PC's IP address doesn't start with 192.168.x.x then fix it. Get help if need be. Lastly, run a modern browser. Don't use IE if you can't run version 10 (windows xp, vista). I use chrome. It catches most questionable site content.

Sorry to be bowing to the man so much on firewall, AV, and browser, but the solution is thin, mostly transparent, and frequently updated, and easy to find and install. Things important on an older rig.

It's freaking easy to be relatively safe in today's age.

1- Don't use Windows XP
2- Windows Security Essentials (Win 7 ) or Windows Defender (Win 8) are free and just as good as Avast or the rest of the bunch
3- Use a router with a password on it, never connect your computer directly to your internet modem
4- If you wanna go on some hazardous sites, use FireFox or Chrome and disable Javascript
5- Enjoy your new virus-free life Edited by TheThirdRace
