  1. Interesting. I got the Firefox warning after I searched for a TESNexus file on Google. Before that I did not get a warning. Not that I paid any attention to it, but interesting in the connection. Perhaps Firefox reads the google header for its warnings?
  2. You can usually select to ignore the security settings for specific sites.
  3. To me the first method sounds much the same as gangrene. Different process, but same end result - dead cells on living being. Lack of sleep can do a pretty good job of creating a similar state.
  4. I've just started playing the Lego Universe Beta. I've got to say, it seems very well designed to me. Now, I've got little to no experience with MMOs, but the general feel of the game so far (~2hr played) has been top notch. Not particularly challenging so far, but entertaining. I may even consider buying a subscription when it is released. If anyone else is in, feel free to say hello if you see me running around (EthreDuJade). Oh yes, and LHammonds - they seem to have done a great job of keeping the game PG. There's in game chat, but it is forced spell checked and I assume foul language is filtered. (The spell checking also helps a bit with legibility . . .)
  5. I'm not up on current hardware, but I do know that Nvidia was having a spate of issues ~1.5 years ago. Don't know if they are still continuing. Just my opinion, but I would guess it can't hurt to let him try Oblivion. Worse thing that happens: he doesn't like it. However, you may want to consider helping him out by tweaking the video settings. The Advanced video settings for Oblivion may be beyond him (or maybe not), but can give a much better visual/performance balance than the stock. -E
  6. I took advantage of the free Steam dealie to play Portal this weekend. :) Quite an interesting game I must say. Personally, I think the cake wasn't necessarily a real cake - more of a metaphor. It doesn't really matter whether it exists or not, because the idea that it exists is enough to have an impact and affect individuals actions. Kind of like heaven/salvation in a way - because you never really have concrete proof that it does, or does not, exist. Does that make any sense? (I do not mean to make this into a religious debate)
  7. Looks like you've got all the help you need, and angelwraith has the right idea - you'll learn more by doing it for youself. :) But if you need an example for help - I think the SewardSqTalonFight01Switch01 script might be helpful?
  8. I wonder if the question changes a little bit from generation to generation though. My guess would be that it was a different question in the 30s than it was in the 70s. Similar idea (breakdown of society), but different reasoning? Personally, I'm just a normal college student but it seems to me that some of your worries are valid KVNChrist. I was always taught to help others whenever I could, and to make my own way in the world through honest means. It wasn't just my parents, it was just the way it was at home (in a rural part of the midwest). Since I've gone to college (in the south for what it matters), I have seen an entire other side though. I see people driving newer and nicer cars than mine, and then paying for groceries with foodstamps. There are kids whose shoes are falling apart, whose "parents" are going out to rent flashy new rims (vehicles are the most noticeable example). I see people cashing their unemployment checks and then spending every penny on alcohol. The worst part of it is that they have seem to have no shame. Whatever happened to personal responsibility? If you can't afford it - don't get it! For comparison, I have a small amount of money in the bank. Not much, but enough to last me through a short hard-spell if I hit one. I drive a two year old sedan - not flashy, but I own it outright (no loans, no nothing). I spend more money than I probably should, but never more than I have. I'm blessed to be on scholarship that covers most of my college, but I pay for everything else. Oh yes, and I find the time to join in club athletics. If you pay any attention to what you are doing and eating, I see no reason why one should be obese (overweight is one thing - that happens, but obese is another entirely).
  9. There is definitely something to be said for fighting on one's own home turf. He also benefited from having more control (to a certain degree) over his forces than the Crusader armies which were highly factionalized. Still a good leader. We are obviously interpreting this differently. I have read the initial post to focus more narrowly than you appear to. Yes, I know Hitler approved and influenced many battle and invasion plans, but he did not develop detailed plans. No leaders at that level do. He made many, many "suggestions", but this is not how I would define day to day control. Of course, you appear to see it differently. (I would suggest that someone like Eisenhower would also be too far removed from day to day control to be applicable. Just because someone received daily reports and made some decisions on troop-movements does not, in my mind, equate to day-to-day control. I think approximately a single army would be the farthest removed you can be. Again, my opinion.) I have also made no suggestion that he had no historical value. I simply said that I did not see him being applicable to this particular topic. Be careful before you jump on something. @Aurielius: As you can see above, I interpreted your initial post to be more specific than others (and it seems you) did. You are right about Stalin making some better decisions near the end of the war though. Perhaps Hitler started to believe his own propaganda a little too much? Of course, if certain events in the war had turned out otherwise (as many easily could have), then we might now be thinking of Hitler's choices in a more positive light. Hindsight's 20-20 on all his actions. Stalingrad could easily have turned the other way. The Kursk Salient was a large mistake, but if they had moved earlier (instead of waiting on weapons - which allowed a Soviet defensive buildup) perhaps it could have been achieved. A single break in the soviet line, and the whole city could have fallen. On an interesting side note to the topic - the Wehrmacht tended to be more objective oriented, giving more control to lower level officers. I think it definitely showed (at least in the early days of the war). If you have well trained officers this is a mode of operation which can work well.
  10. I think the earlier points about this being time-dependent are quite valid. Given the evolution of warfare (and the change in scale - modern wars are much, much larger then they ever have been before). I'll put out Patton's name though. He had his faults, but I think that he may have had the most natural instinct for command. Not the most studied, but in my opinion war is 1 part strategy and 1 part instinct/luck. Good thread. I think Hitler's an invalid option in this debate, because he, like Stalin/FDR/Churchill, did not really lead on the day to day level. Brilliant (in an evil way) - yes, I will agree with that. In terms of military commander (at least as defined in the initial post) - Not Applicable. Unless you want to consider his WWI service, which from what I recall was as a foot soldier.
  11. I actually liked to older appearance, but it is good to have things updated. Though in my opinion, any price for horse armour is over-priced. ;)
  12. I think the others here are quite right about the service - not a bad idea at all. The only potential problem I see is that you will be committed for a time period (8 years total - though most of that would probably not be active). I'd think it would probably be a good thing for you, but if you found that you really hated the service it could be an issue. If you are simply looking for something temporary to get up on your feet, you may want to consider Custom Harvesting. There's always a demand for help, requirements are minimal (if you have no experience, many will teach you what you need to know), and you get to travel the country. The downsides: can be long hours (especially if you don't like your crew) and it wont make you rich (on the other hand - if you are semi-frugal you can probably leave at the end of season with $10,000 cash in your pocket). Try Combine Forums or USCHI for more information. Or ask me if you wish. I've done the run myself and thoroughly enjoyed it (I'd still be doing it if it wasn't for college). fixed your link, led to a spyware redirect source intended for those who make mistakes when typing that kind of stuff. Those who clicked your wikipedia link should probably run a scan or two. Thanks for catching my typo Vagrant. -Ethre
  13. Pronam's correct. I spent maybe 2 years without Premium, before I finally manned up and bought a subscription. I don't download much anymore, so I have no real need of the subscription. However, if you think about how much the Nexus provides to the community - its absolutely worth supporting. If you want to think of it another way - for the cost of a subscription, you're expanding your game hundreds of times over. You can pay for a new game, or you can pay to support a site which provides the equivalent of hundreds of new games. Either way, I don't think you should be complaining about the free download speeds.
  14. Yeah, the link's safe Pushkatu. Sorry if I wasn't clear. Regarding alternatives to disabling the toolkit - A sandbox app should work I think. Ex: Portable Firefox + Sandboxie A simpler possibility might be using Noscript to block Javascript expect for sites you know to be good (ie, TES, Google, etc). (fyi - in my opinion, you should be running Noscript anyway). Can someone else verify that these ideas should work?
  15. I remember watching a History (or was it Discovery) channel special on the Bermuda Triangle. They went looking around some areas to see if they could find any trace of the flight (which of course they didn't succeed in doing . . .). The one thing I really remember them saying though, was that there are literally thousands of downed planes in the area. Many, many crashes (from weather, mechanical problems, etc) and also quite a few that were intentional downed (drug smuggling, etc). So, in my opinion, they're probably never going to find Flight 19.
  16. Just a warning to everyone on here - there's a new JAVA exploit that looks like it could be bad. Be extra careful when browsing the web in the coming days. JAVA Exploit Take care.
  17. ~Four year old. A Geforce3 200 will have some problems with it. Might work with Oldblivion though.

    Game music

Since some have mentioned these, the God of War soundtrack is available to download from Sony's website (originally only intended for those who bought the ultimate edition, I believe, but available as a public download) http://www.godofwar.com/ucmdev/groups/public/documents/webasset/g3_trilogy_soundtrack.zip Also, two albums from Company of Heroes are available for free download. http://media.steampowered.com/apps/4560/Company%20of%20Heroes%20_%20All%20Heroes%20Rise.rar http://media.steampowered.com/apps/4560/Company%20of%20Heroes%20_%20Songs%20From%20the%20Front.rar
  19. Take a look to see how much space you are using on your harddrive. If you're getting close to filling the drive that could be a partial cause. If Fallouts the only game you are having performance issues with though, you may want to consider a clean reinstall of the game. Could be some corrupted files in there somewhere (perhaps related to mods, perhaps not).
  20. This often seems to be the benefit to games which are less visually appealing and/or immersive in their interface. If they spend less time on the visual aspects (or the rendering, controls, etc) there usually seems to be more focus on developing an immersive and responsive plot.
  21. Usually its related to posts. I think its the same here.
  22. I'm not a gun owner myself (excluding a few antiques). However, as far as I am concerned it is my right as an American to bear arms if I so desire. Should I never chose to exercise that right, that is my choice. That does not mean it ought to be taken away from me though. That's absolutely ridiculous Balagor. Luckily, I live in a state with a strong Castle Law. Basically, if someone breaks into my home, I have every right to defend myself.
  23. Well, I have only watched the "new" episodes (2000+), so I can't really comment on the true history of the show. I preferred Doctor Nine to Doctor Ten though. I'll have to reserve my commentary on Doctor Eleven until a few more episodes have broadcast. To me he seemed a bit awkward in the role, but given the recent rebirth perhaps that was partially intentional. As to Red Dwarf, I'm sorry, I've never watched it. :(
  24. Never been much of a trekkie, so I'll have to go with Doctor Who. :) Series 5 just released (in England - be in the US in a few weeks).
  25. Agreed. I'd also be interested to check out the Arcane University.
