Right now I'm working on a mod to make Point Lookout a mid-level adventure like the Pitt rather than a poorly balanced, super-powered stimpack consumption fest with mini-nuke resistant mutant rednecks and tribals with hunting rifles that ignore power armor. So far I've lowered the Swamp Folk to a more... mortal level of durability, I've removed the 35 point damage buff, I've declawed the Swamp Lurk queen to Mirelurk king levels, I'm working on making the tribals more in line in difficulty with standard raiders, and I powered down the Feral Ghoul Reaver to something less ridiculous. Anything else that should be dealt with?

One thing worth mentioning... Illinois is under the control of the Mid-western BOS.

And now for the hard part... the body. Good luck.

There are mods that fortify the hell out of the citidel. Why not just use that then script in a large assault on it...

This could be idiotically simple. Just take the repellent stick, retexture, profit.

I personally think Op Anchorage isn\'t a half bad DLC and actually adds a bit to the fallout history, but the Chinese Stealth Armor just sticks out like a sore thumb. Its simply too modern scifi. It looks like something taken out of an anime, and not the pseudo-50s retro scifi look you\'d expect from the setting. Its not that I mind anime, just when I play Metal Gear Solid I expect it to look like Metal Gear Solid. When I play Fallout I want it to look like Fallout. I\'d like to ask if any skinners would be willing to take up the task. I have a couple suggestions for it if people are interested. 1) the wires on the suit. Make them look like the cloth covered wires commonly used in the 1950s, as shown in the T-51b from Fallout. Also here and here 2) Give the armor plates the same dull, metallic appearance used on the Power and Combat armor in either black or the shade of green commonly used by communist states on their equipment. Maybe have the undersuit look like cloth. If the armor is black, green would be a good contrast, or if its green black might be a good contrast. 3) add some Chinese communist markings to it, like how the Winterized Power Armor has US Army markings on it. A couple red stars and meaningful Chinese characters could go a long way to making it look like a piece of mass produced military kit. 4) This last bit is just a bit of a wink and a nod. Put a grid like patten over the armor which uses bump maps to look raised. Something reminiscent of the body mesh used by predators of the movie of the same name. While its not entirely retro, its the kind of subtle wink and nod to existing scifi that Black Isles used to pull all the time and in no way breaks the retro styling.. 5) Speaking of Metal Gear Solid, the third game is placed during the early 60s and as such the sneaking suit from that is extremely retro, looking extremely futuristic for the time but quaintly out dated by today\'s standards. Perfect for what the Stealth Armor should look like. Here\'s an example. These are just ideas and I don\'t want to think I\'m trying to \"order\" something exact. I\'m just throwing out ideas incase anyone is interested but could use a spot of artistic direction to get them started. Thank you. And if you decide to take this idea on... THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

Um, you guys to realize that just about all the ghouls in the game use the same VA. Hack up the ghoul dialogue and recycle it to make James's You don't need Liam's voice because of course he's going to sound like sandpaper on a chalk board.

Now, that's a damned fine hat! :)

Have it so they're one mass and just use textures and bump maps, or cut it down to 4-5 large cables.

What you said there just shows that you have no clue how much work goes into makeing such a large and open game world. Bethesda wasn't lazy, but they had to make tradeoffs when they decided they wanted to make a 40+ hour RPG with more replay value than almost any other game on the market, rather than a standard FPS that you can beat in 16 hours top. The fact is, when makeing games, you have to choose where your priorities lie, otherwise you will never get the game released. There are plenty of things Bethesda would have liked to do, but couldn't because you only get so much time and money to make a game. Bethesda is lazy. Fact. They use the sandbox to make up for factors, like their vastly inferior plot, writing, and game play. Fallout is not an FPS. Its an RPG. You want to compare it to a game, look at mass effect which has better writing, better acting, better gameplay, and a plot that can't be invalidated by basic wildlands survival techniques. And yes, the rifle was lazy. There was already a workable Assault Rifle design in the previous fallout art, all they had to do was create something fictional using its aesthetics rather than use a modern rifle as a base. Like what they did with the 10mm and the Combat Shotty.

The presence of the Desert Eagle in Fallout was a unveiled joke to the fact that at the time every movie that featured gun play had someone with a desert eagle in it. As for advancements in common projectile weaponry... make a thematically functional weapons mod that looks "advanced" but also looks retro. The SNIPER RIFLE being the perfect example. As for the G33... let me spell it out for you: BETHESDA IS LAZY no other excuse. I say the same about the AK. As for only 2 assault rifles in the world... no... but which would you find most commonly in the washington DC area? The current service rifle. Honesty some modern weapons could work... with some adjustment. Wooden furniture and a battered old look being the main ones. The issue is mostly that they LOOK modern and new in most mods which helps RUIN it.

FNNCQ a complete fallout 3 slavery overhaul

Just make it optional and you're cool. Frankly, it sounds frackin' awesome. -
Destroying the theme ruins the fun.

Yes. Well said. I couldn't have asked for a better target to rip apart. I think it is a good idea. I mean seriously with all the mods out that change this game already it is just something that maybe people want to play as. I could see traveling the wasteland as a Ninja or an Assassin, why not a Delta Force soldier? Is that not what modding is all about, creating new ideas giving new life or a different view on things? Honestly where would ever1 be if the the only flavor was vanilla? After all Mothership Zeta anyone? The Special Ops Weapons Mod? (which I think is awesome by the way cannot remember the author, though kudos to him/her) 1) Ninjas and assassins are just as moronic as modern soldiers and belong just as much, IE not at all. 2) Its not that the only flavor is vanilla. Is that the only flavor is FALLOUT. 3) The special ops weapon mod falls under #1. 4) Bethesda wouldn't know fallout if it walked up and punched them in the face. They've made that clear several times, and in general Zeta was an abomination best forgotten. Its moments like this I hope to god Interplay wins the lawsuit. And lastly I may just not have noticed but I never got the feeling that the theme for FO3 was around the 50's I always thought it was our future after the 2000's. Perception is reality I guess and maybe I figured there were not really that many super span freeways suspended in the air in the 50's. Also Oblivion has some really good mods that place you in a futuristic persona. I think that game would be fun to play as someone who got transported to an alternate reality, think of going through Oblivion with a Famas and ACOG or a shotty, I think it would be fun. Just my opinion. Then you really really have not been paying attention. 50s based clothing, 50s based cars, 50s scifi based armor and weapons, 50s style suburban homes, the whole 50s style communist scare, vacuum tubes in all the electronics, even the space rocket in the museum of technology looks like something off a 1950s pulp cover... As for the super span highway, see entry 4 of the above, then play Fallout 1 to see the perfect example of what it should have looked like. Fallout 2 has some modern weapons due to executive meddling so its not quite as perfect the model. And honestly, the father this gets from that feted pile of maggot infested fecal matter that they called "oblivion", the better. PS- I may be wrong about this as I did not have time to search for the answer but I don't think that the M82 or M107 Barret (which seems to be what the games 50cal. sniper rifle is modeled after) had been invented yet if the game takes place in the 50's. What the hell are you talking about? The game doesn't even HAVE a .50 cal sniper rifle! :wallbash:

I love that pic. SIGGED! I know the perfect name for such a mod "YIFF IN HELL!"

Well, this is stupid and retarded, but unfortunately someone eventually will make this regardless.

Oh shut up and stop whining. You ask people if they agree but then say people shouldn't reply if they disagree with you. I'm sorry, but this forum isn't here to pat you on the back and have everyone say how damned brilliant you are. You ask for people's opinions and you'll get them, like it or not. The power armor if you look at it is extremely retro in design. It fits the era aesthetic. Its RETRO-futuristic in a RETRO-futuristic world. As for modern weapon mods and how well they've turned out, speak for yourself. Personally I find them revolting and in general don't agree with the presence of any modern weapon made after 1955 save for the Desert Eagle which gets a wave past as it was in the first Fallout. Even then I'd rather them make something up rather than use a pre-existing firearm. Though I will agree, shoop da whoop and furries are pretty dumb and don't belong at all. Well, maybe not entirely with furries. Killing them with fire does being a bounce to my step and a smile to my face.

Well, Type V is one of the more realistic replacers, not that thats saying much.

THIS! IS! FALLOUT! There's an aesthetic style to stick to. If you don't then you're just being lazy.

Fallout 3 - Tool Set / Shop Equipment
PsyckoSama replied to nschwaia's topic in Fallout 3's Mod Ideas
Those are poor examples. Look for ones dating back to the 50s. And remember, they will be rusty and battered. -
Good rule of thumb for Fallout 3 is if you couldn't see it fitting in a 1950s B movie, a retro film like The Iron Giant, or in Bioshock, you're doing it wrong. Fallout Tactics screwed up on that front (main complaint from the fans about the game, actually), and Beth screwed up royally on this front in the case of Operation Anchorage, though its a minor mistake compared to their many others.
-
I didn't make that. Its production art from Fallout Tactics.
