What was the game that caused your gaming addiction to begin?
IndorilTheGreat replied to Systex's topic in Classic Games
For me, it was either Dark Forces or Morrowind. I definitely spent considerably more time playing Morrowind. Funny story about that, actually. It was purely a chance of luck that I found out about the Elder Scrolls games back then. I built my first computer when I was either 11 or 12 (with a bit of help from my dad), and Morrowind came free with the graphics card; just the disc in a paper sleeve, no instruction booklet what-so-ever. It's also how I met one of my good friends. He had the booklet at school one day, and I asked if I could take a look at it. We just kinda became friends after that. Sorry for the off-beat life story there. -
If you want open world games, look no further than Evochron Mercenary. It's got the entirety of the galaxy to explore; doesn't get much more open than that! :P All of the Evochron games are massive; I've spent many hours playing, only to find out that I'm still in the same quadrant of the galaxy - there's just so much to do. Oh, and did I mention that it's based on Newtonian physics? :geek:

Top ten reasons a zombie apocalypse would fail
IndorilTheGreat replied to SubjectProphet's topic in Off-Topic
I think that I'm in a good location if there is ever a zombie outbreak; northern Minnesota. Everyone up here has guns, and the towns are spread apart. The only major population center within an hour is Duluth. However, I would much rather be in the boundary waters for a situation like that; unless of course, the zombies can swim. Then we're all in trouble. I was tempted to make a statement about the cause of zombification being modern television, but I think I'll hold off on that one. -
Heh... I can picture some poor girl scout showing up to your door, and you freak out at the zombie selling cookies. But in all seriousness, whether or not this was a zombie attack, it's still really creepy. I saw a photo of the victim's face... let's just say I was glad I ate before hand. Reason for edit: I just realized that the Girl Scouts of America are just that; Girl Scouts of America. I made a comment about biscuits before.

If there's one lesson I've learned in my short 20 years on this planet, it is not to "judge a book by it's cover." I have many close friends that I would not have if I had followed societies "norms" about stereotypes and whatnot. However, that being said, I will not attempt to befriend, say, someone that is a convicted serial killer that has been set free from prison (for some odd reason; just go with it). My brain tells me to stay the heck away from them, not think, "Oh, I'm sure their murderous habit has gone away." On the other hand, I don't like people that take "intolerance of intolerance" too far. An example of this would be a radical feminist group. Now, I'm not talking about equal rights, which I am all for. I'm talking about the groups that believe that "all men are dirty animals" (which I've had said to me before), or that the planet would "be better off without the likes of your disgusting gender" (again, this has been said to me by a radical feminist). Tl; dr: I'm all for equality, but not for "intolerance of intolerance." In other words, everyone on this planet should be treated equally, but when you go too far in the persecution of intolerance, you're no better than those that you disagree with in the first place. If the above "Tl; dr" was too long here's something to sum it up: Equality =/= Harassment of wrongdoers

Who called for the DB hit on the Dragonborn?
IndorilTheGreat replied to CaptainRC's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
My question is who in their right mind would call a hit on the reincarnation of a dragon? Surely the word about this figure single-handedly slaying dragons would be enough for the DB to say "Nuh-uh. That's suicide." Besides, doesn't the DB only take contracts that adhere to their "code of ethics?" -

Um... you do realize that Bioware didn't make SWG, right? Also, this looks interesting. I really wanted to move some characters over. I stopped subscribing partially because my roommate unsubscribed (we would play together a lot), and I just got too busy with school.

You realize thats the exact logic behind racism right? You believe that some other being is inferior, based on whatever standard you might have that in all likelihood doesn't apply to that being, and you use that standard to to discriminate. I also have to ask if you're mad at daffodils. Because when you end up 6 feet under, thats whose going to be eating you. No offense intended, but its true. I feel that last comment was a bit unnecessary; not to mention a bit snarky... The reason humans are "on top," if you will, is because of how we have evolved throughout history. We developed the use of tools, which we used to more effectively hunt and gather, as well as create a societal infrastructure. These actions are what allowed us to create a "great empire" of humanity (i.e. we are the dominating species on this planet). Now, that's not to say that nature can't kick us in the butt every so often just to say, "Look, I'm in charge here." Which I think we need every so often... Also, I wouldn't consider daffodils to be an animal. They're a plant. Reason for edit: Added *snip* at the top.

Please tell me you took apart all the moving pieces before you did that... I had a buddy that got his first gun ever, and he spray painted it blue so he could (and I quote), "Be like Call of Duty." Needless to say, the paint gunked up and clogged, essentially wrecking his firing pin and jamming his gun. Also, I'd like to see that eye; do you have any proof? In the marines, we properly paint our guns by ony painting the frame, removing other parts. And... uhhh.... the eye is gone. I painted over it..... Ah. When I was thinking of an eye, I was thinking an indentation of sorts. I'm going to be done in this thread for a while. All of this talk of conspiracy combined with my engineering studies is making my brain hurt. :pinch: I may interject sometime in the future, if I feel I have something important to express.

Human achievement & breakthoughs have stagnated
IndorilTheGreat replied to nofear88's topic in Off-Topic
How about our advances in human prostheses the past 10 years? We finally have a (semi effective) arm that responds to muscle movement and nerve reactions. Also, the Skylon spacecraft is really fascinating stuff. If this project successfully takes off (no pun intended), the world will shrink even more. Alternative energy sources are popping up all over the planet as well. I believe my teacher said it best: "The Joule is the currency of the future." Achievements and advancements aren't limited to theories and experiments on the atomic level only (although that seems to be a big area right now). -

This is exactly why I prefer science and numbers over history and philosophy. Numbers don't lie (unless of course you use them wrong, but that's beside the point). And, please don't tell me that the Illuminati made up physics, because someone has said that to me before, and everything they said to me after that had no credibility. To be fair, he was one of those "tin-foil hat" types (not to be rude to anyone that enjoys wearing tin-foil hats). As far as history not following the correct events, tat has happened long before the Illuminati came into existence. The quote "History is written by the victor" has both a figurative and literal meaning. If a certain group prevailed in a battle or a war, back "in the day" that usually meant that they had a significant power or presence on this planet, therefore they could write it how they chose; usually with an incredible bias... Huh. I kind of see what you mean.

I don't think you understand that it was you who claimed something that's against common knowledge.... Which, btw, Google says you're full of it. So yeah, you can play the sarcastic silliness all day long if you want, but again, as I was taught, someone invents BS, you verify that they're full of it. Of course, one is then left to conclude that since you won't even do that much, you already know I'm right. This bantering back and forth between you two is just silly. marharth has a point; if you're going to state something, then back up your statement and provide the information requested instead of playing the role of "high and mighty," if you will. However, that being said, you (Arthmoor) have a point as well. If someone will not (or can not) provide the information you are looking for, research it yourself, rather than drag on for several posts. On-Topic: Now, as for my opinion on the matter? I tend not to look too far into things such as this. If there is indeed some secret world order, I don't want to stick my nose too far into their business. At least it isn't as bad as in the Dues Ex universe, where the secret organizations and corporations really do (obviously too) control the way things go.

I think we're talking about the same thing here, just not quite in the "same dimension," if you will. People should indeed stand up to bullies, since god-knows the school system won't do it. Parents will try to help, but of course, they need to go through the school system first (that or the media, but that usually just brings more trouble than it's worth). Self defense and sticking up for someone is how humanity should work; unfortunately people tend to care about themselves first, and others last. What I'm getting at here, is that one should not actively seek out vengeance. When your head gets clouded with emotions such as anger and the revenge (I know, I know; it sounds like I'm quoting Star Wars), you make irrational decisions. When you make irrational decisions, those around you can very easily get hurt. The "Jedism" talk aside, if you want to stand up for an ideal, stand up for it; don't lunge for it. Reason for edit: The "P" in "parents" wasn't capitalized, and it was bugging the crap out of me.

There is another option; paying for games as if they were a monthly service (somewhat similar to Netflix). A prime example of this would be GameFly. I personally prefer to pay for a game once and be done with it, as I usually prefer single-player games (and I like to keep track of my money; this way I can put away "X amount" for when I wish to buy it). As far as F2P games with advertisements go, they can work, but they are usually things like low-budget MMO's, which I don't really have an interest in anyways. (Point of interest: I was playing Protoype the other day, and I kept spotting GameStop billboards all over the place. Product placement, much? :P ). I absolutely abhor (most) games with Micro-transactions, since these games are usually completely unplayable unless you buy the "Staff of Cash Flow," or the "Armor of the Empty Wallet." Some games work with this method, where you can buy these items with in-game currency, but for the most part, I tend to stay away from these. As for the "payment plan" method; it can work fairly well, but as Syco21 stated above, it can easily lead to price gouging, since people are far more comfortable with spending a little bit at a time (it all adds up rather quickly).

So, in a way, you were actively (and knowingly) participating in a form of bullying. Not that they didn't get what they deserved, it just seems that "an eye for an eye" is not the right thing to to in a situation like that. As for being bullied... I've taken martial arts since I was 8 years old, which helped me practice self-discipline. If someone was making fun of me (or "verbal bullying"), I would sit there for a minute, analyze what they said, and either respond as if it were a normal conversation, or just looked at them until they went away. In high school, a prominent bully from middle school came up to me one day, and I was expecting a long drawn-out stare-down, but he actually walked up to me and apologized for being a jerk all those years ago. I always find it really odd to see someone you know visibly mature over the years. It's nice, but odd, nonetheless. Good grief... I feel old. :ohdear: Reason for edit: Grammatical error fixed Why not? Seems perfectly reasonable to me. If the bully is well aware that there is indeed someone out there watching out for his/her potential victims, and has demonstrated that bullying is not acceptable, and can bring on unpleasant consequences, to the point it deters the behavior, where is the problem? Kinda like training your dog NOT to do something..... the whole "If I do X, then "something bad" happens."... If you want to avoid the something bad, don't do X behavior. Simple. Call it deterrence.... or aversion therapy. And, I wouldn't go an eye for an eye, I think it would be more like an eye, an arm, and a leg, for an eye. Very true; it is a form of response behavior/training. However, one should not actively seek to put a troublemaker in their place. I speak from experience. I had a really good friend in middle school; one of my best friends, in fact. When he heard about his friends (and myself) getting bullied, he decided to do something about it. So, he challenged each and every one of them to a fight. Of course, they took him up on the offer. So, he went around abusing his knowledge of martial arts, and whooped the bullies within the first minute of the fight. If there's one thing bullies like better than confidence, it's the ability to showboat, and so that's what he did. He got too full of himself. Soon, he thought himself "above" the rest of us, and actually joined in with the band of bullies. Needless to say, things only got worse from there. He wouldn't even need to hurt people, he would just threaten to hurt them, since everyone knew what he did to the bullies, and what he could do to them. I lost a good friend that day, and learned that you should not attempt to be a vigilante when it comes to the safety of those close to you, as all of those emotions can be turned against you. Now, I'm not saying that no one should defend themselves. If someone comes up and starts harassing you, defend yourself in some way (whether it be reporting them, or fighting in self-defense). I'm simply saying that you shouldn't take the fight to them. That makes you no better than they are; singling out and targeting a specific group of people.

My color and my RPG personality are in the spoiler tag of my signature. As for my D&D Class and Alignment, here it is; Lawful Good Human Ranger/Sorcerer (1st/1st Level) Ability Scores: Strength- 14 Dexterity- 16 Constitution- 16 Intelligence- 15 Wisdom- 15 Charisma- 13 Alignment: Lawful Good- A lawful good character acts as a good person is expected or required to act. He combines a commitment to oppose evil with the discipline to fight relentlessly. He tells the truth, keeps his word, helps those in need, and speaks out against injustice. A lawful good character hates to see the guilty go unpunished. Lawful good is the best alignment you can be because it combines honor and compassion. However, lawful good can be a dangerous alignment when it restricts freedom and criminalizes self-interest. Race: Humans are the most adaptable of the common races. Short generations and a penchant for migration and conquest have made them physically diverse as well. Humans are often unorthodox in their dress, sporting unusual hairstyles, fanciful clothes, tattoos, and the like. Primary Class: Rangers- Rangers are skilled stalkers and hunters who make their home in the woods. Their martial skill is nearly the equal of the fighter, but they lack the latter's dedication to the craft of fighting. Instead, the ranger focuses his skills and training on a specific enemy a type of creature he bears a vengeful grudge against and hunts above all others. Rangers often accept the role of protector, aiding those who live in or travel through the woods. His skills allow him to move quietly and stick to the shadows, especially in natural settings, and he also has special knowledge of certain types of creatures. Finally, an experienced ranger has such a tie to nature that he can actually draw on natural power to cast divine spells, much as a druid does, and like a druid he is often accompanied by animal companions. A ranger's Wisdom score should be high, as this determines the maximum spell level that he can cast. Secondary Class: Sorcerers- Sorcerers are arcane spellcasters who manipulate magic energy with imagination and talent rather than studious discipline. They have no books, no mentors, no theories just raw power that they direct at will. Sorcerers know fewer spells than wizards do and acquire them more slowly, but they can cast individual spells more often and have no need to prepare their incantations ahead of time. Also unlike wizards, sorcerers cannot specialize in a school of magic. Since sorcerers gain their powers without undergoing the years of rigorous study that wizards go through, they have more time to learn fighting skills and are proficient with simple weapons. Charisma is very important for sorcerers; the higher their value in this ability, the higher the spell level they can cast.
