  1. In response to post #24852889. #24854019 is also a reply to the same post. 1) Because money. 2) If you had the chance to go through the pending mods section, it already had.
  2. In response to post #24840844. I declare that we get a magical title that states "donater" somewhere. Just hope it doesn't create any elitism.

  4. Watch, and be amazed, as I push the quote button at the bottom right of your post (viewed from a desktop computer) and an exact replica of your post appears at the bottom, underneath a segment that says "reply to this topic." Now, you need only write a comment (or not) BELOW what you have quoted to add to it. In addition, I see that these haven't been posted yet, so I suggest you take a gander: The Skyrim Project Stability Article: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/32363/? A modder's beginner's guide: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/56894/? and a Skyrim Stability Guide: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/50244/? Please pay special attention to these authors when they say to BE CAREFUL what values you change in Skyrim.ini. There's some misinformation going around and if you don't do your homework, bad things can happen. EDIT: Found a couple more guides buried in my tracking page... Look up the Sims 2 community. That's been posted quite a few times on this news thread alone, so I'll let you take the heavy lifting. There's also the DMCA's that hit Isoku's mods prior to the removal of the paid system to consider.
  7. In response to post #24839629. #24839764 is also a reply to the same post. You purchased money for a premium membership, which goes straight to the Nexus budget for keeping the lights on. That is hardly leech-worthy at all.

It's already galvanized people who have never donated before (including myself) into 1) Realizing donations were a thing, because the TOS for uploading mods is that you cannot explicitly ask for them, and 2) Actually donating. The trend just needs to be maintained- it must become part of our culture as a community.
  9. In response to post #24837689. #24838489 is also a reply to the same post. I think we should let them be. What's done is done, and we really should be focusing on what we've learned from this experience. Good example- in the skyrim general discussion section there is a thread for trying to rally people to donate to modders, who will then donate a percentage of proceeds to support disaster relief in Nepal. I think that this would be a great incentive to donate, help people in need, and refocus our community toward positive improvements.

Sir, people can sue and be sued for anything in the United States, and if a lawyer or firm thinks they can make money from a claim (regardless of how frivilous it appears) they will go after it. Your assertion that no lawfirm would go to the trouble on the basis of laziness is optimistic at best, and hugely, hugely ignorant to how lawsuits actually work. Case in point, the fact is law firms will be paid regardless of whether their claimant wins a case. They will still charge the claimant court fees and for their own time- it is in fact in their best interest to go after such lawsuits because if they can't collect from the defendent, they will shake down the person they were hired by. Furthermore, Valve is not an unknown name- its damn near house hold in this industry. Do you really think that they will ignore a claim when they see the words "Valve," and "Lawsuit?" Think again.
  11. In response to post #24812719. Thank you, best of luck to you as well.
  12. "Sift through a bashing." Ha ha, no, the only bashing you'll be receiving are from bandits in-game. The people here are pretty chill. Welcome to the community, and don't forget to click the "Endorse" button on a mod after you've tried it some and decided to keep it.

FavoredSoul, I get that the modders who joined the initial program (and were subsequently burned, both by users and Valve/Bethesda) were for the most part wrongly attacked, but I'm honestly confused as to how you can believe that mod-authors were vilified alone. I've been watching these comments threads for six days too long, and from what I've seen, the hatred has passed from Valve/Bethesda, to SPECIFIC mod authors, back to Valve, back to Bethesda, stayed with Bethesda, back to Valve, and now that the system is dead, focused on mod users, many of whom were in fact DEFENDING the right of mod authors to get paid if they so wished. When people started attacking *you*, it was because you posted a reply that attacked mod users, who in turn thought that *you* were being entitled. Do you see the problem here? This isn't helping anything. Anytime anyone creates a large post written entirely in the spirit of passion infused hatred, it just brews more hatred and we hear each other even less and less and yell more and more in response to being heard less. It's only getting worse, and everyone involved with this riot mongering is culpable, even the OP of this thread. But from what I gather, he and several others like him only posted this because he felt he was being attacked, just as you did originally. TL;DR, we all seriously need to get a drink together and talk about s#*! without throwing glasses at each other's face.
  14. In response to post #24774814. #24776789, #24777459, #24811584 are all replies on the same post. Personally, I think modders should be compensated at some point, but I agree that the end goal of modding should not be financial, for reasons stated over the past three news threads.
  15. In response to post #24784099. #24784289, #24785139, #24810294 are all replies on the same post. Probably one of the better posts on this topic.
  16. In response to post #24810109. ...Ok, that's actually pretty awesome. The getting a job with IBM thanks to your mod portfolio, I mean.
  17. In response to post #24810179. Bumping this post, because for those of us that were there when the drama at its highest, this was a very unexpected and considerably thoughtful apology. Cheers, Psijonica.

This is the most important comment in this entire thread. Ultimately, none of us would have diddly squat without the community, and by withdrawing from the community whatever your intent, you are ultimately hurting yourself in the end. Listen OP, before you lambast me as just another "little kid" who disagrees with your opinion, I must say that your logic for the most part is sound, and you have every right to pull everything off of the Nexus and never mod again, much less for free. But unfortunately, I must critique two points: 1) You say that what you do is charity, and from a financial perspective it indeed is. However, from a matter of intent, it seems to me you were never charitable at all, given that the main reason that people give charity is that they expect nothing back. Does that mean even gratitude? Unfortunately, yes. I could give a few bucks to a homeless man and he could not acknowledge me at all (though this is admittedly rare- most people I find are pretty grateful for obvious reasons) nor does he need to, since sometimes they didn't ask for my money. But I didn't give them the money to feel good about myself or to get acknowledgement- I did it because I thought it would suck if he had to spend the day without so much as a McDonalds hamburger to eat. I think you would be lying to yourself if you thought for even a moment that what you did went unnoticed, or that people were not grateful to you. What's more likely is that you never thought their gratefulness or happiness or improved skills mattered to you, and given that we all have different measures of value, I understand how you feel. 2) The reason for my analysis above is that you admitted you are selfish. That is fine- its part of our nature as people, and honestly I think some of us need to come to terms with our negative aspects from time to time. But as this user said, we are a community- and as much as the greatest mod authors would like to think the rest of us, non modders and modders alike, are not owed anything, you do owe one thing- you would have never reached your level today without the Nexus. You would have had no one to show your mods, and no one would be around to learn from you, given the quality of your mods. Likewise, you would not have learned from them, when they eventually find something they can improve on in your work. You would have no one but yourself and your tools to learn from, which means you would likely not get better. That's not even considering whether you used assets created by other members of the community or not. I have no mods myself, and only recently considered getting into it. I would have appreciated finding resources here to get started but, now I'm uncertain as to what kind of people I would go to for help, if all I am to a potential teacher is part of the rabble. The experience I speak with instead comes from being part of the writing community, and what I've found there is just as applicable to this one as to any art- the isolated never improve and eventually destroy themselves. The ones that contribute, do not. Peace mate.
  20. In response to post #24775689. That IS absurd... can you provide a link to some examples? I think we'd like to know who is responsible for this kind of cruelty... ... for education purposes, of course. ;)
  21. Y'all are kinda missing the point... OP, I suggest that all modders who enroll in this program send their percentages to the same charity- we need to be sure the money is going to a legitimate place, and as usually happens with major disasters, there are bound to be a lot of fraudsters out there right now.
  22. Hey mate, thanks for letting us know what happened on your side of things. I'll admit I was also pretty miffed at the concept of popups in Skyrim, but it means a lot that you've realized the mistake in hindsight, and are making amends. I've used your mods in the past and have appreciated the new spells they've always offered, and as such I'll be sure to support you (with a donation too, eventually) should you decide to continue modding. Thanks.
