Will Oblivion run on Windows 7
Shadowfen replied to glensh's topic in Oblivion's Mod troubleshooting
The game itself (as installed off the DVD) works fine if you install it in the default location. It is when you try to install mods to the game that you start running into problems with not being able to see files that you know you copied to the right directory or not being able to find or modify an ini file and silently crashing without a clue. You see, Windows Vista and 7 introduced a new security feature that tries to protect certain Windows directories (such as c:\Program Files) from being modified by malicious whatever. In the cases of programs (such as Oblivion) that were created before Windows Vista/7 even came out, they weren't designed to play within these new restrictive rules that have now been imposed. Because this new security feature is designed to protect only certain directories, you can avoid all the weird problems by simply installing your older game (or other program) in some other directory that Windows doesn't care about protecting. -
Will Oblivion run on Windows 7
Shadowfen replied to glensh's topic in Oblivion's Mod troubleshooting
Do not allow Oblivion to install in c:\Program Files or c:\Program Files (x86) - basically where it wants to install by default. You can put it in c:\games\oblivion or d:\Program Files\Bethesda\Oblivion or any other place you prefer - just not into one of the standard Windows directories. -
Acquire any patches that you need to make your other mods work with Unique Landscapes. Download BOSS and let it work on your load order. Read the report that it generates for you that notes various possible problems, potential conflicts, and suggestions. Know that Deadly Reflex 6 is still reported as being beta and may have issues. You might wish to use the stable DR 5 instead.

So Peryite's Realm would look something like Black Marsh with zombies? :)

How do I make the game full screen?
Shadowfen replied to pwnageking's topic in Oblivion's Discussion
I'm a bit confused, but I will assume that you are saying that when the game runs, it takes up the whole screen rather than just being in a window on your desktop and you just want to change the resolution from a widescreen setting to a normal setting... In the game, go to the Options menu and then the Video page from that. In the screen resolution dropdown where you choose among the available resolutions supported, choose a resolution that does not have a * after it - the * indicates a widescreen resolution. If I am wrong and you want to run in a window rather than have it take up the whole screen, you need to execute the OblivionLauncher.exe program, allow it to detect your graphic hardware if it wishes, and then go to Options and then Video from there. On that window, on the lefthand side you are given the choice of running in a window or fullscreen. -
TES4Edit is your friend! :) With it you can load in your mod, look at the entry that you made that was in error, and change the formid for the item in your mod from 00xxxxxx (overwritten Oblivion stuff) to 01xxxxxxx (new your mod stuff) thereby restoring your default static whatever.

Wrye Bash (no console) troubles...
Shadowfen replied to SylvanRuin's topic in Oblivion's Mod troubleshooting
If you have your Oblivion game installed in c:\Program Files or c:\Program Files (x86), you really need to uninstall Oblivion and reinstall it to a different directory otherwise you will run in to massive problems with mods and tools (such as Wrye Bash) fighting with the Windows security features (and losing). Many of us will use c:\Games\Oblivion as an install directory. See Bben's Reinstall Procedure article for a checklist of how to do this. Now for your Wrye Bash issues: * The file type "Python (no console)" is perfectly fine. It is not an error indication of any kind. ".py" files have a file type of "Python", and ".pyw" files have a file type of "Python (no console)". * You didn't mention so I thought I would point out the proper installation order: WryePython03a gets installed first; afterward, you install Wrye Python 287 (full), and then Wrye Python 290 (update). * You might be able to get your current installation of Wrye Bash to run by finding the file pythonw.exe in your c:\python26 directory; right clicking to select the "Properties"; and on the Compatibility tab selecting the "Run as Administrator" check box. While this might work, you would be much better off simply reinstalling Oblivion somewhere that you don't have to continually fight against Windows security. (You might also need to do this to python.exe as well.) * Wrye Bash has a known bug currently (that will be fixed in the next release) - sometimes it will not start again after it has worked before. Whenever you try to start Wrye Bash and it does not start (after you finally get it working), go to the Data\Mopy directory, find the pidfile.tmp file, and (if it is there and Bash is not running) delete it. Then start Bash normally. Oh, thank you soo much ^_^ wrye bash is working ^_^ But about that reinstalling thing, I have a lot of mods currently running in Oblivon, and I also dont want to lose my game save... Will reinstalling cause any problems with this stuff? And also, I have wondered why I have two seperate Oblivion directories? One is in the folder you mentioned, and the other is in My Games. And also, Wrye Bash is asking if I want to turn Lock Times off??? The link to the article that I gave you tells you how to move your stuff and keep your save games. It's very good. The oblivion directory in your My Games directory is where your saved games live. The program Oblivion directory is (obviously <g>) where the oblivion program and any mods that you add will live. Wrye Bash's Lock Times feature will make sure that your mods stay in a particular load order (which is time-based) by making sure that when mods are changed (because they are updated or something) their time is reset to what Wrye Bash remembers that it used to be. Lock Times is a pretty good thing to have on - the only major thing that requires you to turn off Lock Times is when you use BOSS (Better Oblivion Sorting System) to adjust your load order because it wants to rearrange the times on your mods according to its rules. If you do not have BOSS, I highly recommend that you get it. Oh, back to Bash - the v290 version of Wrye Bash has a special option you can turn on to allow BOSS to disable Locked Times while it is running (from the Bash toolbar at the bottom) so you don't have to worry about turning it off yourself before you run BOSS. -
New Game Black Screen Crash with Mods

Try removing the ArchiveInvalidation.txt file - or rename it if you prefer. I recall having a similar problem and discovered that removing that file fixed it. -

oblivion crashes after in-game loading
Shadowfen replied to Borisman1's topic in Oblivion's Mod troubleshooting
The solution is simple - "don't do that". It is a known problem with Oblivion - even completely vanilla (unmodded) Oblivion - to frequently crash either during or soon after a quick load of a save game. Always exit oblivion and relaunch it to load up a save game. -

Flickering Grass and Game-Data Access Issues
Shadowfen replied to Tenlethar's topic in Oblivion's Mod troubleshooting
That is generally a symptom of a low-performance graphic card; and the ones that you mentioned are certainly not that. Do you have any other devices attached to the computer - specifically, things like a joystick or game controller? If you do, try unplugging them and seeing how that affects your game. -
Crashing everytime fast traveling in Chorrol
Shadowfen replied to ian101's topic in Oblivion's Mod troubleshooting
ohhhh ummm .... i can load a new character but not my old ones =( i tried to make a new one and it worked xD If you unselect the unofficial patch esps, will your old save games load again? I would suggest that you also download a copy of BOSS (Better Oblivion Sorting System) and use it to rearrange your load order (with the patch esps selected as well as all your other mods). Then try your old save game again to see if it loads. If it does load, see if you can fast travel to Chorrol. Let us know what works (or doesn't work)... -
Flickering Grass and Game-Data Access Issues
Shadowfen replied to Tenlethar's topic in Oblivion's Mod troubleshooting
So, you've tried new drivers, new graphics cards, vanilla installs, new games, and none of those options have helped. Can you borrow a monitor and try it with the borrowed monitor hooked up in place of yours? You are running out of likely options... -
Oblivion crashes when loading exteriors
Shadowfen replied to Priami's topic in Oblivion's Mod troubleshooting
My load order: Oblivion.esm Oscuro's_Oblivion_Overhaul.esm Unofficial Oblivion Patch.esp DLCOrrery.esp DLCFrostcrag.esp DLCThievesDen.esp DLCVileLair.esp DLCMehrunesRazor.esp DLCSpellTomes.esp Knights.esp Streamline 3.0.esp DLCShiveringIsles.esp Oscuro's_Oblivion_Overhaul.esp Improved Hotkeys.esp If you still haven't managed to fix this and don't have a working older save game, here is something else you could try: Disable Streamline 3.0.esp, and then find the oblivion.ini file under your My Documents directory near the save games. Once you find it, delete it. Then try to start oblivion and load your save game and see if that helps. Hope it does... -
If I recall correctly, Fletchers Den is a simple mod in a simple archive. All you should have to do is to open up the archive and read any readme file that might be there - it should have instructions on how to install. If it does not have a readme or instructions inside of it; for this particular mod you can extract the .esp file into your Oblivion Data directory. Alternatively, you might try using OBMM to create an omod from the archive, but for more details about how to do that, you'll have to ask someone else. I don't really use OBMM that much; I prefer Wrye Bash myself.
-
So far as I know, OBSE will not work on the Mac - so mods that require OBSE will not work also.

All good points, but I have to say that the land tear near the fort you went to was the result of a conflict with another mod that you have. If I've guessed the mod's identity correctly, it does conflict with a number of other mods that want to change the land. One thing that I strongly recommend that you get is a utility called LandMagic - it is a program which reads all of your mods and tries to detect and repair such land rips - creating a LandMagic.esp based on what it found in your other mods. It is wonderful!!

The only problem is that all of the download links lead you back to non-existent files on Tesnexus. :(

I suspect you are having a problem with Windows 7 security (UAC) protecting you from those evil nasty mods. When you installed Oblivion, you just let it install in the default directory (something like c:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion). Because of the new (as of Vista) UAC security feature, that is not a good place for Oblivion to be installed - especially if you want to mod it. What you really need to do is to uninstall Oblivion, and reinstall it in some directory other than c:\Program Files or c:\Program Files (x86). Many of us use c:\games\oblivion.
-
First thing I would try is to find the oblivion.ini near your Save Games under My Documents and delete it. Then start oblivion and see if it regenerates a working one. Look in data\obse\plugins to verify that the Menuque dll is there. If it is not, put it there (create directories if necessary to do so). Try oblivion again if you just added/reinstalled Menuque. If that does not work, I would disable the Radar System mod, and see if that fixes it. If it does not, remove (or rename to something else) the Menuque dll that you put in obse/plugins. See if that fixes it.

Wireless Mouse and Keyboard problem
Shadowfen replied to Deleted1662706User's topic in Oblivion's Mod troubleshooting
I would have voted for a hardware problem myself... still might. :) Your other possibility is a device driver problem. Do you have the latest drivers loaded for your wireless keyboard and mouse?
