  1. Well, again, if I could just rely on willpower, I probably wouldn't be having this problem in the first place... Well, maybe the 'as Bethesda intended it' was a little irrelevant to my point, so I apologize for the red herring. You're right; they're not playing it, I am. Except I'm not. Because of the lure of mods/the CK/the Console. That's why I've decided to try a platform that won't allow it...
  2. Oh, I've played it vanilla before, but the lure of mods ended that pretty quick. I know very well how mods make the game more fresh and interesting, but that really only works if you actually play the game, which I'm not. And I want to. I just can't, with all the mods and so forth that keep distracting me!
  3. OK, so I've been playing Skyrim for well over a year now, and I have never advanced a single character beyond level 25. Why? Because the Nexus is a freaking addiction, and I can't seem to stop modding my game. Then I started using the console whenever it was convenient. Then I just started editing the game in the CK myself. So in short, I spend way too much time configuring Skyrim/My character and almost no time at all actually playing the game. So, here's my new strategy: Force myself to play on my Xbox! No mods, no console, no CK. Just the plain, vanilla game as Bethesda meant for me to play it. I know it doesn't look as good, but I think it really will help me actually play the game (which, actually, I really want to do!) Of course, I lost my Xbox disc, so yesterday, Bob help me, I actually purchased my FOURTH copy of Skyrim. I learned my lesson last time though, and this time I bought it direct from the Marketplace so there's no disc for me to lose anymore. What do you think? A good strategy, or just setting myself up for failure? Anyone else decided to shuck the mod vice and go plain vanilla?
  4. IIRC, the last step in installing FONV is Steam asking you to log in so it can add it to your account. It's possible your installation didn't fully complete, or the Steam client crashed while it was trying to launch. In addition to jim_uk's suggestion, you might try uninstalling it completely and reinstalling it again...
  5. @ NoobusExtremus: Hmmm... I daresay building your own car is probably a little more complicated than creating your own mod... Not sure that counter-argument works... @nafeasonto: I totally understand where you're coming from (and at times have completely agreed with you), but people are free to create whatever they feel like creating. The propensity of 'skimpy' mods on this site only reflects the propensity of people who like said mods on this site... I think you could probably safely assume you're in the minority... Also, I feel like I should point out that your original post borders on breaking the TOS of the Nexus: "If you disagree with the content of a file on the site then do not post. Simply ignore the file and move on."
  6. You actually GET the jokes told in this thread... You spend half your day trying to think up something that someone else here hasn't already said...
  7. Yes, they're obviously some sort of scaled mammal, as evidenced by the mammary glands...
  8. You forgot "Freemasons run the country" and "Dark0ne is really a Sith Lord"
  9. Don't apologize; it's pieces like this that make The Nexus a community rather than a file server. We like knowing there's an actual brain behind the place rather than some faceless entity wielding the banhammer. Thank you once again for everything you and your team do for us.
  10. No, sadly, you're not alone. I'll admit I played Oblivion for a year and a half and never finished the MQ. I did complete FO3, but only by rushing through. We're going on 14 months in Skyrim, and I haven't even started DG... And I've never had a character higher than level 25 in ANY of the afore-mentioned games. All for the very reason you describe.
  11. Just FYI, Skyrim, being a 32-bit program, is unable to access any RAM beyond 4GB, so go for 8GB if you need it in other areas, but don't get it because of Skyrim... Basically, I'd say: • CPU: Get the fastest one possible for the money you have to spend. • RAM: 4GB is all Skyrim needs. • HD: Get an SSD (doesn't have to be huge). • Video: Your sticking point. Laptops don't have much unless you specifically buy a gaming machine, so get the best you can. I like Nvidia's chipsets. • Screen: I know you probably want the largest possible, but fewer pixels to run means more video memory for processing graphics. Big screen is good, super-high resolution won't be. Best of luck! (I bought a Win8 tablet with my refund  )
  12. 1: Use an Xbox controller, which disables the keyboard (and tilde key). You have to go into the menu to disable the controller in order to access the console. 2: Use a screwdriver and pop that key off your keyboard. You probably never use that key for anything else (I sure don't!). 3: As stated, willpower and discipline, which are frankly good skills to have IRL.
  13. @PROMETHEUS: You can sort each file category by 'most endorsed', so it's not entirely correct that you can't sort the Hot Files by category. You just need to sort the category by Hot Files.
  14. "Once again it falls into this category of not being able to please everyone and ultimately doing what I personally think is right for this network of sites. " I think this is really the key issue here. Let's all remember that we're all visiting Dark0ne's site. S/he (sorry, I don't actually know) is able to run this site the way they want. This site is entirely at Dark0ne's discretion, and who visits it is too. Much like the rules of a Mod, if you don't like it, move on. Losing users who don't agree with the terms established by Dark0ne will neither make nor break this site. Mark me down as another in favor of these changes.
  15. I had the same problem after installing a Type 3 body and/or Mojave Delight and/or any new hair styles. The problem arises from the mesh being slightly larger than the headgear itself and/or a missing script around said headgear. You can see what I mean by 'script' when you put on something like the 1st Recon beret. Notice that your hairstyle is actually replaced by a different style, as if your hair were matted down by the beret. Using a non-vanilla hair style, the beret seemed unable to change said hair style to the 'wearing beret' style. I was able to fix the problem by making sure the 'weight' slider was all the way to 'light', and by making sure I used a vanilla hair style. Though all that may be BS since my theory shouldn't affect NPCs with vanilla hair...
  16. Happy Birthday, Nexus! Dark0ne, you got me. After years of leeching mods from you, I guess it's time for me to reciprocate. Lifetime subscription ordered. Thank you so much for everything you've done for us over the years. Bethesda's games wouldn't be anywhere near as fun (or playable for years on end) without your hard work.
  17. It's taking some getting used to, but I can't really say I DISlike the new format. I remember when I first started coming to this site in days of yore and it took me a little bit to find where everything is. This is really no different.
  18. Awesome! I was just thinking yesterday how I wished there was a way to filter out all the translated versions of existing mods that I frequently have to scroll through to get to the new mods in the feed. Thanks!
