  1. I'm going through Ana NPC 2.0 right now and found that mod adds some really fun and immersive quests. The way your companions interact with other NPC's in the game and even start quests from them is excellent, and the party banter is quite enjoyable. It doesn't reinvent the Skyrim quest wheel, but so far I'm enjoying it. http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/58357/? Oh yeah, and how could I forget Conan Hyborian Age!! It's not the longest quest line but the dungeon is pretty amazing. This one is a must have for any Conan fan (like me) http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/40914/?
  2. The Wheels of Lull and Helgen reborn are a must have for me in addition to Falskaar and Wyrmstooth. Wheels of Lull: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/58672/? Helgen Reborn: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/35841/? Both add amazing quests lines, new enemies and styles of dungeons and some very interesting fights. You will not be disappointed with this content. Make sure you head over to the mod authors page and endorse their mod and drop a comment if you enjoyed it.
  3. There are tons of Skyforge mods out there. Nothing I found with "hidden stuff" but still, some decent ones nonetheless. http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/23737/? This one is pretty cool as it adds a statue of Ysgramor and a wall of honor to the companions training yard in addition to the essential forging items near the forge itself. http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/54544/? This one adds the smithing essentials to the forge and even a mine in the underforge with ore you can mind and use for your crafting. http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/56639/? This one is a beautifully done Whiterun overhaul which changes the look and feel of the entire city. Although much larger than what you're probably looking for, this mod makes some really cool changes to the Skyforge in addition to adding the smithing essentials. This mod actually feels like it's Eorlund's work area.
  4. Too many followers drives me nuts. I get irritated with just one follower, let alone a bunch all huddled up and blocking my way everywhere I go. When I play I always do one max as I like to feel like I'm building that rapport with that companion. I normally use Arissa, as she is by far my favorite, however I'm running the Anna NPC 2.0 mod and trying out some of those companions. Right now I'm adventuring with Anduniel and I have to say...she has been amazing so far! Enjoyable banter and her quests are really fun and immersive. I feel like having multiple followers takes away from getting to know just that one follower and so far I'm really enjoying getting to know Anduniel while we quest together.
  5. I always found it odd to go into a crypt or dungeon, uninhabited by anyone alive in thousands of years, to see all braziers, torch scones, and candles lit. Where do they get the coal? The wax? Oil? etc? It's not like the Draugr order candles from the local shops to be delivered to their crypts. What I would like to see is all braziers in dungeons unlit and all torch scones empty by default. The PC has to light the braziers and hang torches on the walls as he/she progresses through the dungeon. I think that will add to the level of "spookiness" in going into a truly dark dungeon, especially if you were daft enough to not bring a light source with you. The torch scone mechanic is already in the game, so any lit torches would simply have to be removed so the PC can add their own torch. The brazier lighting mechanic was done perfectly in the Conan mod (http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/40914/?) where you simply "hit" the brazier with your torch to light it. If you really wanted to add a level of detail, you could leave the braziers/ torches lit for dungeons where humans have progressed (and are either alive and waiting for you, or have otherwise met their untimely death). So when you enter a dungeon and see lit braziers, you know that other humanoid (ie not undead) characters are in there before you were. The Dustman's Cairne quest for the Companions is a perfect example since the Silver Hand have progressed through the crypt before you did and would have lit their way, only stopping where they did. So if you see lit braziers/ torches and then all of a sudden you see unlit braziers/ torches, that tells you that area of the dungeon has not been visited by anyone "alive" recently.
  6. Been using iNeed now for quite a while and it is not one of my staples along with Frostfall. With all the work the mod author has done to the mod he effectively replaced RN&D. The food spoilage system is brilliant and not having to get compatibility patches is a huge thing for my already large load order. I'm also a huge fan of the follower needs as well and love sitting down next to the campfire with my companion and sharing freshly cooked meat from our last hunt. Or feeding my horse some carrots before a long ride cross country.
  7. That would be awesome! Yeah, maybe write in a min steal value of items before someone hires people to kill you. I mean...if I steal a piece of bread worth 10g, and you hire three to four thugs at what? 100g? Maybe 200g? Does that really make sense? I like the DB idea if you've killed someone or committed a really heinous crime.
  8. Does anyone know if there is a mod out there that will mimic the style of camera that Skyrim has for Fallout New Vegas? What I'm looking for is something that will let me rotate my camera and look at my character without having to hold down a button. Anyone know what I'm talking about and can point me in the right direction? (Assuming this mod exists)
  9. I would like to see a mod that changes hired thugs in the following ways: 1. Hired thugs should not be sent after me if I was successful in stealing and was unseen by anyone. Why am I penalized for doing a good job at being a thief? Feels very immersion breaking to have a thief caught out in the wilds by some thugs hired by someone who really should have no clue who stole from them in the first place. 2. Assuming you were seen by your target (or anyone else for that matter) when you committed your crime, you should have some dialog options to either bribe the thugs to sod off, or with a high enough speech, persuade them that attacking you is not in their best interest (similar to the thief encounter). Thoughts?
  10. So I have this habit of refreshing the Nexus while I'm at work so I can continue to check and see what new files have been launched (yes I have a modding problem, I'm just not ready to face it yet). In the past I've seen a mod pop up on the hot files and the next time I refresh the page it has vanished. Not quite sure what the criteria is to make hot files but I have seen something like that happen before. Either way, grats on the surge of endorsements! I've been tracking your tax mod myself and I might add it to my list of mods for my next play through. Cheers!
  11. Sorry mate, just checked and I don't see you up there. The hot files I currently show as of this writing are: Female Hairstyles w/ Physics Book Covers Skyrim - Lost Library HN66s Hands and Nails for CBBE UNP SeveNbase Vanilla Reshaped Ebony Helmet TDN Equipable Horns Far off ENB - Nirn CGI But I wish you the best of luck! I love immersion and harder economy mods :)
  12. I really like this request! I wish I could help you in anyway but my modding experience is zilch.. But yeah it's always bugged me that the savior of not only Skyrim but pretty much all of Tamriel gets treated like a common thug after you've saved the world and are the legendary dragonborn. I would love it if a mod could fix all the derogatory comments and just general attitude you get. It would be nice if people would leave you offerings at your home to pay homage to the great dragonborn or something like that. Guard dialog overhaul touches on this and makes guards respect you more for your deeds. Only tricky thing is...how would this be implemented? You would have to add tons of lines of dialog to NPC's and alter quest lines to be more suited toward an "end of the world dragon slaying hero." I would imagine it would have to be silent dialog because nothing is stranger than taking spoken lines onto an NPC and having their voice change.
  13. No worries mate! Glad you were able to sort it out...sometimes I think we spend more time tinkering with our mods than playing the actual game! haha...I look at it like a hobby like fixing cars which can be equally frustrating at times.
  14. I'm by no means an expert so I probably won't be of much help to you. My game still CTD's every once in a while and they can be the most frustrating, rage inducing thing to happen. Just going to ask some basic questions and I'm sure you probably already did this stuff but just making sure: 1. Have you run your mods through LOOT to sort your load order? 2. Do you run SKSE? If you run the newest version, SMME is no longer needed as the memory patch is already included with SKSE, you just have to enable it via an .ini setting in the SKSE.ini file. 3. I don't supposed you're trying to play an old character from a saved save game are you? I'm assuming you started a fresh brand new game after the reinstall? 4. I was going to recommend the save game script cleaner tool as it help me clean up some rogue scripts...but after checking the page to get the link it seems it's under moderator review. O.o Very odd! 5. This helps you track your memory usage to make sure either SMME or the new SKSE patch is working as intended: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/50471/? When you crash you can check your log to see if it was because you have used up all your VRAM. If you crashed and you're under your VRAM usage, chances are it crashed due to orphaned scripts or conflicting mods. 6. Not sure if you've seen this or not.. but this stability guide was VERY helpful to me! I highly suggest reading it!! http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/50244/? Good luck!
  15. So there seems to be a good overhaul of the Bards college quest line. For me, it was the single most disappointing quest line in Skyrim. It started off pretty cool by getting to re-write an old tome and read aloud to the court, but then after that is just sucked. Three more boring fetch quests and you're done. You don't actually feel like you've become a "bard" but more like you got duped into playing errand boy for people who are afraid to get their hands dirty. There are tons of bard music replacers on the Nexus but not any overhauls of the actual college quest line. Also there was a cool mod called "Become a Bard" but now I don't see it on the Nexus and on Steam only (I don't install mods from Steam...) I LOVE the ideas of a bard that Dragon Age introduced in that a bard is more of a rogue/ spy/ assassin in disguise. I also loved the old D&D style of being a support character that buffs the party. Sadly none of that is in the current game. I'm decent at writing but have zero experience / knowledge of creating mods. I've watched some modding tutorials but it does not seem to click with me. I've outlined a rough draft of my ideas and thought I'd post them here in case anyone else wants to run with them! Objective: To make the Bards College more interactive and expand upon the extremely short and unsatisfying quest line. Application: To apply for the Bards College you must either have knowledge of Skyrim's history enough to re-tell the tales of old, or have firsthand experience in adventures you have completed. There should be a minimum "books read" requirement (say 100? 200?) to join based on your history and knowledge of the world. Or you can join after you've completed one of the major quest lines (after you've slain your first dragon, after you've finished the Companions quest line, etc). Once you've applied to the college the start is the same, go and fetch the tale of Olaf One Eye and bring it back to be read to the court and re-initiate the burning of the effigy. After which is where this overhaul kicks in as you must select your "major" in the college. Only one major can be unlocked and once you select one, the others will not be available. The three majors are "Bard's Arts" which gives you Thief abilities as you use your songs to distract people, "Troubadour's Arts" which gives you warriors abilities as you receipt the poems of ancient heroes to boost your combat, and "Minstrel's Arts" as you use your musical instruments to call upon the elements and boost your magic. No matter which path you choose, you will get an instrument to play and will be able to play at inns for tips (very similar to the way the "Become a Bard" mod works) so you actually feel like a bard no matter what specialty you selected. Major in Bard's Arts: Speak to Inge Six Fingers to begin training in this art and he will send you to obtain his lute to begin. Part of the founding from the college comes from secret contracts to act as spies and saboteurs. The civil war has provided tons of work to be done and there is always someone somewhere who needs information. Inge's quest revolve around sneaking into places and obtaining information. This could be stealing battle plans, ease-dropping for a set time, or sabotaging certain locations (ie opening a locked door to a fort so the enemy can invade or disarming all traps in a certain area, etc). After you've accepted a number of contracts, you obtain the "Bard's Song" ability which increases the effectiveness of your allies and your stealth while nearby enemies and NPC's are distracted by your song. Major in Troubadour's Arts: Speak to Giraud Gemane to begin training in this art and he will send you to obtain his drum to begin. As mighty warriors go to battle, poems of past heroes are often read to inspire the men and instill courage and rage into the hearts of all who hear. Giraud's quests will involve inspiring troops on the battle field and rallying men who are fleeing from combat. As you use "Rjorn's drum" near friendly NPC's in combat, you buff them. Sometimes, generals will enlist a troubadour from the college to inspire his men before battle, so you may be sent to inspire troops for "x" amount of time. After you've completed Giraud's quests you gain the "Warrior poet" ability and as you play your drum and receipt the poems of old, you earn buffs for attack/ defense for you and all friendly NPC's and companions in the area (it could even play a small 2 or 3 second drum animation). Major in Minstrel's Arts: Speak to Pantea's to begin training in this art and she will send you to obtain her flute to begin. It is said that a skilled flute player can calm the rage inside even the wildest of beast. That the winds of magic will flow through a skilled flute player so they shape them as they see fit. Pantea's quests involve all things related to magic. Use her flute to calm creatures in the wild (you have to play it for "x" amount of time while you sooth a cave troll who will be attacking you or your companion until the time is complete), to summon creatures to aid you in battle (summon "x" amount of atronach's to "guard" revered places throughout Skyrim), or to aid in battle as you attack with the elements (use your flute to attack rogue antronach's with the proper element such as fireball against a frost antronach, etc). After you completed Pantea's quests you gain the "Spellweaver's flute" ability which will increase your Destruction damage and magic regen for "x" amount of time for your and your allies. Maybe a small 2-3 second flute playing animation can play while you cast it. Maybe once you are done with your major and have earned your skill, you can continue to do radiant quests for your instructor who will offer a small percentage of the job's coin to you in return. In conclusion, once you are done with the college and have passed your selected major you will have the following: - The ability to play music at inns and earn coin - The ability to buff yourself and your allies with voice, poem, or music - A "playable" instrument that will play an animation and one of the music bards tracks from the game (instrumental only so it will apply to both male and females characters) - The ability to continue to do radiant quests for your instructor to earn coin for you and the college
  16. Once you buy the game, download the Nexus Mod Manager and it should auto detect your game install. From there you can download mods off the Nexus and install them through the mod manager (Known as NMM). I would highly recommend watching Gopher's modding tutorial series for new modders
  17. You can only get a legal copy of the game on Steam and this site does not support piracy. I would recommend waiting until you have a legal copy of the game through Steam and doing a clean install of your mods.
  18. That's not a bad idea. I'm a big fan of a fresh re-start to rule out any unforeseen issues. I've uninstalled Skyrim about three times so far just so I can start fresh. Every time I do it I get more confident at modding and creating a stable game. Now I run about 180+ plugins and tons of textures mods with very little issues. If that fixes your issue, let me know. I'm just curious to know if it was a funky issue with a mod.
  19. That is odd indeed. I used to use the 760 card myself and I don't ever recall anything like that. I poked around the internet and disabling AA was the only thing I saw other people recommend as well. I found this thread from about a year ago and it seems like they are having the same issue as you. Sadly there was no resolve and the only post said it was a game engine issue: http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/934812-help-blow-light-around-handsweapons/ Funny though I've never noticed that in my game... Maybe you can run your Nvidia tool and have it optimize Skyrim for you? I normally will increase all graphics settings in-game, then head over to the Nvidia and pump up the graphics even more (Like enabling Ambient Occlusion, etc). With a GeForce 760 you should be able to run at full graphics especially since you're not running any hi-resolution texture packs or ENB's.
  20. That's odd. I'm wondering if it is an AA issue (Antialiasing). Try this: 1. Open up Steam and hit "Play" on your Skyrim title (Don't open with your SKSE launcher). 2. Your launcher window should open up for the game. You should see a button called graphics or setup or something like that (Going off memory here while at work). 3. One of your options should be Antialiasing. Trying to disable this just to see if that is the cause. 4. Close your launcher and launch Skyrim normally (Through your SKSE launcher). You have so few mods it could be a graphics card issue instead. You might also want to make sure your graphics card drivers are all up to date as well.
  21. Hmm...can you post a screen shot and a list of your mods?
  22. Ok so there is a mod called Skyrim Redone (http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/9286/?) which overhauls the entire game. It changes everything from combat, enemy AI, racial ability, perk trees, etc. (Nicknamed Skyre). In Skyre enemies do a LOT more damage and the game is much harder. In order for the additional damage to work, the mod changes the value of your armor and weapons dramatically. So for example instead of having a piece of light armor at an armor value of 10, the mod will change the armor to around 60 or so. Same thing with weapons. An iron dagger which I believe does 4 pts of damage in vanilla Skyrim does about 14 pts of damage in Skyre. The mod author expects people to use modded weapons and armor, but he has no way of knowing which you are using so he cannot write in the armor and weapons values for every mod. In order to combat this, there is a tool called SUM (Formally called the Reproccer). You run SUM outside of the game along side with patches which will make other weapon and armor mods compatible with Skyre. Once you run it, it will change the values in game to the "Skyre" values. If you don't run SUM you will have modded weapons/ armor with insanely low values which make them useless. SUM will fix that issue. Again, unless you are installing Skyrim Redone, you don't need to worry about SUM. This tool is only for use along side Skyrim Redone and nothing else.
  23. I wouldn't worry about SUM at all. This is a tool only to be used with one mode called "Skyrim Redone." And for you right now I would avoid installing that mod. I would focus more on your textures and getting the game to look how you want it to look. Good luck to you! Let me know if you need any more help :)
  24. Well SUM is only if you are using the Skyrim Redone mod and it's sole purpose it to make other weapon and armor mods compatible. If you are not using Skyrim Redone, you don't need to worry about SUM. Do you have all three DLC's? (Hearthfire, Dawnguard, and Dragonborn?) If not, I would HIGHLY recommend you purchase all DLC. Most mods will require some if not all DLC and without them you will be limited to what you can install. Plus...they are just amazing content! For TES5Edit, I've only used it to clean my master files (Update.esm, Dawnguard.esm, Dragonborn.esm, and Hearthfire.esm) to clean dirty edits from those file to prevent instability. Just followed this video to the letter as Gopher explained it extremely well: If you haven't seen his beginning mod tutorials yet, I highly recommend watching through his entire series. Even if you are not using all the mods he recommends, it gives you a really good solid footing to understand the modding world: I, like you, did not understand modding at all when I first started. Everything seemed so confusing and I was super paranoid of harming my game. You just have to work at it slowly and move at your own pace. Make sure you read the mod pages in depth and follow all install instructions. Also the comment section on the mod pages will help you troubleshoot any issues you may experience with a mod. Click "Posts" on a mod page and then click "View Forum Thread" in the upper right hand right above the comments section. From there you can search that particular thread for any issues you may have. But before you do anything at all, watch the Gopher series in it's entirety as I feel you will really benefit from it.
  25. Yes that is a good one as well. What I like about Skyrim HD2K is that it is modular. Since I use CaBal120's textures mods for landscape and Whiterun and such, I am only running the dungeon textures from that mod. I would get the others installed first and see how you like your game. Then you can add each HD2K texture as you wish. Here is the link for that mod: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/607/?
