Intelligent Minutemen

Hey awesome modders.

So, I've seen plenty of mods over the years, that alter what we can do with the factions, add new and fun ways to do the quests and even mods to make peace between the factions (or blow them all into the next apocalypse - looking at you Thuggy xD)

However, one mod I've always wanted to see, but never found:

How come, the minutemen shoot down the Prydwen? They are strong enough in numbers, that they should be able to take it over for them selves, especially with the player character on their side..

Also, why do they blow up the institute?!?

Again, they have the numbers, they WON the battle in the institute.. So, why on earth would a faction dedicated to saving lives in the CW choose to blow up the paradise that is the institute its self?

All that clean water and food, boooom?

If you don't sound the evacuation before blowing the inst up - Preston clearly doesn't like it.. So why blow it up in the first place?

If I where to think like a General of an army - army beeing dedicated to bringing safety to the CW and ending raider threats and the like, I sure as heck, wouldn't blow up some of the greatest tactical advantages in the CW, when I could claim it for my own cause instead..

Fair enough - if it was because my artillery was my one and only strength, so I wouldn't dare a frontal assault, but then the MM take on the institute and actually clear the place out, then blow it up? xD

So yeah, as my title indicated - I'm wondering if anyone would be willing to take a crack at such a mod?

Where the MM claim the prydwen and all its goodies, as well as claim the institute.

Wouldn't have to be some grand thing, where MM start flying around in vertibirds in stead of BoS units, neither teleporting MM who pop in and out of battles as they see fit. (Would be cool though)

Thinking mearely, a mod that alters the quests a bit, allowing to end them by claiming said places, and then having MM units in said places so you can still access institute and prydwen and watch your army.

You're kinda forgetting the cost in MM lives to take over the Prydwen. It's easy to forget in a video game, but RL generals don't throw away soldiers lives to take an objective if there is an easier way. Since the Prydwen is not strategically critical to the MM it is far more efficient to just blow it up. BoS looses a crucial asset, MM don't die trying to take over something they don't need.

As for the Institute, the MM are not an army. They are farmers, settlers with guns who band together when needed, then go home. Think of them as the National Guard. They get called up when needed, but otherwise go about their civilian lives. That means long term occupation and control of the Institute is not really in their wheel house, especially when they don't understand the technology there or how it can be turned against them by rebellious scientists. I mean one idiot cracks open the FEV lab and suddenly the place is controlled by super mutants. So again, safest, most efficient method of dealing with it is clear out the people and destroy the future tech the MM don't know how to control.

What? You want realism in a Fallout game ?

In the real world, I'm sure people would just blow sh*t up, to save lives.. Then build something else or new replacements of what got blown up..
This is a game though, set after an apocalypse.. Blow up the Prydwen, loose it for good - same goes with the institute.
I choose to believe, that it would be more realistic, to keep the prydwen and the institute around, as both would make a peaceful future far more believeable and possible.
MM, just beeing MM, already failed horribly once.. So if they want to make actual changes, they need to evolve and grow..

Anywho, your opninion, on wether or not this would be believable, has nothing to do with my request. :)

It drives me crazy that there's no alternative.

Imagine the Institute in anyone else's hands, set up as a hospital that teleports out paramedics and teleports in patients for example.

Also, the USS Constitution, would love to finally get that thing in the sea. Would love to have an airship and a ship ship xD

I know right? :D

For all this talk of "making things better."

World was destroyed, by people dropping bombs, and what do people do? Blow stuff up.. Humnanity learned: 0%

The institute its self, is just amazing tech and stuff, it's the people in there, who aren't quite right.

Yeah, and that will be a problem. (which would make for an interesting plot line...) those prejudices have been built up over a couple centuries. Not something you are going to simply erase overnight.

Personally, blowing up the institute is a colossal waste. The MM want to rebuild the wasteland, and who better to help them accomplish that, than the most technologically advanced faction around?

The Prydwen and its vertibirds/power armor/etc are tremendous assets that any sensible general would want to capture intact, as well as the Institute. I've almost singlehandedly taken on the forces of the Prydwen and Institute both, which I will NEVER do again. Big one finger salute to Bethy's forced plot choices.

This mod request makes perfect sense.

Yes, there are Fusion City Rising, Outcasts and Remnants and Project Valkyrie. But for those not wanting to deal with Thuggy's porniverse, we would like an alternative. I've had my fun turning the Institute into the Prostitute, and I'm done with that.

I've currently playing through ToroMontana's Subversion mod as monesq mentions, which does something similar and is MUCH saner, though still with a few forced choices I don't like.
