FrayedThread
(Starting by saying that I am still using NMM, but I don't think that matters and I cannot start a new topic in that part of the forum) Whenever I try to download a mod for, say, Fallout NV or Skyrim, ME3Tweaks Mod Manager pops up.I am not logged into that, I have never downloaded a Mass Effect mod directly into it, and I am always logged in Nexus MM. What could be causing this problem? I've logged in and out of the NMM but that hasn't helped.
rmm200
This link is the best presentation I have found for how to associate programs with file types. You want to associate your download manager with the downloaded file type. https://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000572.htm If you were a Vortex user, there is Vortex specific, easier, things you could do. Guest deleted34304850
umm, that sounds like a good plan - but i have to ask you, before you get yourself even more confused and start to blame vortex for everything - do you know how to use vortex, and more importantly if you're using nmm or anything else - do you know how to migrate from them to vortex?if you don't, i urge you to do your research. start in this forum there are dozens of threads that point people to various you tube channels such as gopher gaming and gamerpoets that have vids you can watch to get yourself started.its not as easy as download program x and start using it - there's a ton of stuff that needs to happen before you start to mod your games. I looked up guides/videos on how to do it, and it's going ok so far, just slow (ofc)

Community Manager Pickysaurus Posted June 10, 2021 Community Manager Share Posted June 10, 2021 Just a point to note. The original problem is partly a system limitation of Windows, but also bad design in NMM. Basically, when you download a mod on the site, we tell your PC to open a web link starting with nxm:// instead of http:// (this is called a protocol). Windows can only associate on app with nxm:// at any one time. M3Tweaks would have set itself default when you launched it. NMM has no feedback if it's not default anymore. Vortex, by contrast, will take over the nxm:// handling each time you start it (you can turn it off in settings). This ensures any mods you start downloads for will be directed correctly to Vortex. ME3T may inform you next time you run it that it isn't able to process the downloads until you set it back to default. At some point in the future we might look at providing a means to split downloads to different managers based on the game, but ME3Tweaks is the first (and only) mod manager that supports a game that isn't also supported by Vortex so it's very low priority at the moment.
