Syria

That is the thing...once people get into power they tend to lose those that will tell them how it is. They get in these bubbles surrounded by yes men or people with some agenda. Also as was said....getting into this gets the people's attention off of the important issues. They can war monger their way around all kinds of political landmines. All they have to do is scare America about their safety and go merrily off to bomb some other country.

Will our leaders ever learn that getting involved in another country's civil war is never a good thing

Given past performance? Nope. Not a snowballs chance in hell.

The various leaders are simply foaming at the mouth, just waiting/hoping/anticipating an opportunity flex their military muscle. Its really unfortunate that the american people don't get a say in the matter. I voted for Obama originally because I didn't want what I expected to be a war-mongering republican to win. Instead, I got a war-mongering democrat..... Peachy.

I encourage ALL people to write to their various government reps, and tell them flat out, NO MORE WARS. Not that I think it would make any difference..... just get some nice flowery canned response about 'defending freedom and democracy'. Or some such nonsense. Maybe they should ask the folks in Iraq if things are 'better' now with Saddam gone. From where I am sitting, and everything I have seen/read, the answer would be a resounding "NO!"....

It's looking increasingly unlikely that the UK will joining the party, an unholy row has broken out here between the government and the opposition, it's left Camerons hands tied as the UN will never back strikes.

I'm telling you this is beginning to look more and more suspicious, here is a comment in that article you posted Jim. What is the British and American Government trying to do here, they need to stop trying to be the worlds policemen, those nations have enough problems without them trying to fix everyone else. Which is one of the reasons everyone looks sideways at these country's and their constant political warmongering. Well, lets hope, things work themselves out, we don't need this situation right now. As one commenter said: why would Assad use chemical weapons right as UN inspectors are set to arrive, he's not stupid, he surely knew about their arrival. With him winning against the rebels, his approval rating was around 70% at the time. Why would he jeopardize his position, risk war, if he knew about the inspectors, and the reaction chemical weapons would cause if used.

NeoCond said:

Thousands of Syrians are about to have their death by Cruise missile sentence passed by Obama, Congress, Cameron and UK MPs.

At least those Syrians to be executed and their families have the right to know why these death sentences were passed based on just wishy washy circumstantial evidence such as "highly likely", "open source", "judgement call"…evidence. Just look at the evidence to the contrary: US Backed Plan to Launch Chemical Weapon Attack on Syria and Blame it on Assad Government in early 2013: On 29 January 2013 Daily Mail disclosed leaked evidence from a US defence contractor that Washington had approved plan for use of chemical weapons in order to blame it on Assad: http://www.globalresearch.ca/us-backed-plan-to-launch-chemical-weapon-attack-on-syria-and-blame-it-on-assad-government/5346907

In May 2013 Turkey found a 2kg nerve gas canister from the hide out of Al-Nusra "rebels" who planned to fit it in a rocket: http://rt.com/news/sarin-gas-turkey-al-nusra-021/

Russia also presented evidence to UN that the rebels has used chemical weapons and UN concluded the same.

In May 2013 UN's senior official Carla Del Ponte said evidence suggested that Syrian rebels 'used Sarin'. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-22424188

And the Syrian government announced last week they found chemical weapons in "rebel" tunnels. Le Figaro reported that that rebel forces trained by the CIA have been pouring toward Damascus since mid-August, when the first group trained in guerrilla warfare by the Americans in Jordan have entered into action in southern Syria, in Deraa. Assad would be the last to benefit from crossing the "red line", particularly at a time that he has had the support of 70% of the Syrians and has been winning the war against the foreign backed sectarian "rebels", and just days after UN inspectors arrive staying less than ten miles away.

But still the Neo-Con corrupt politicians are frantically accusing Syria, and are preparing to apply their usual jungle law of "Might is Right Act" as judge, Jury and executioner to unlawfully and immorally bomb Syria and cause more blood bath of tens of thousands of more people and more destruction. Just to try and reverse the recent gains of the Syrian people against foreign backed sectarian "rebels", and to prolong the war and chaos and eventually put their puppet regime in place for the benefit of pro-Israeli lobbies. The international community should remember the "Iraqi WMD" hoax in which over a million were slaughtered, and be vigilant not to be hoodwinked to allow such crimes against humanity be committed again in their names by immoral and corrupt politicians.

Here is a few articles from Russia Today including a live update page.

You said that is a "comment" about the article? Because you really can't base a supposition on a comment. The newspaper retracted it. They paid liable damages. We could argue all day that either it didn't really happen or they were threatened and made to do this. But really...something that big and it would have gotten picked up here because the press doesn't get sued by the Government here for that kinda thing. There is no way in hell it would have not been all over the place with as many Obama haters that there are, if it had any substance whatsoever. Fox News alone would have had a blood field day with it.

I will grant that the plot for the US to use chemical weapons, and blame it on assad does stretch credibilty..... but, on the other side of that, I wouldn't put it past our government to do exactly that either.

Now, the rest of the points, Assad is winning the war of hearts and minds, and UN inspectors are less than ten miles away..... that holds water regardless of the source. Mainly because it has the advantage of being true, and verifyable thru multiple sources..... He would have to be flat out stupid to resort to chems under the current circumstances.

I have seen articles showing chemical weapons in rebel strongholds.... staged? Maybe. But, as good a chance as being true as of the US prompting the use of chemical weapons as an excuse to go to war. Again.

I really don't trust our government. They don't have a clue. I am firmly convinced that they are on the WRONG side in this war. Assad may not be exactly a nice guy, but, he sure beats having yet another islamist government promoting sharia law, and all that entails, in the Middle East.....

Funny I bet I am not the only one who would use exactly the same type of language to describe Camoron and his cabinet...

Because there is no "right" side anymore. Just because there is a rebellion against a bad government doesn't automatically mean the alternative is better. Take the French Revolution for example. They cut off the royals heads and the Committee of Public Safety was born. They ran things by cutting off so many protestors heads that the people living near the guillotine complained about all the blood and the smell. What happened to them? The next group coming into power cut of their heads.

Americans think that rebellions are cool. Because of how we view our own people here tend to want to cheer the underdog on. Doesn't matter if the underdog is a vicious, feral beast.
