Trying to understand

Of course money influenced financial changes, thats kinda overstating the obvious. Was it completely uncalled for? I don't know, maybe one of you people that know everything can tell me how much it cost to run a massive file hosting and software developing website? Is the price change worth it? I got no idea either, I guess that would depend on each individual user and how much they're willing to pay for the service.

Was it some sort of authoritarian master plan to put the little guy down? No, thats just projecting, LOL. At least no more authoritarian than you asking for your paycheck at work. I don't think your company is claiming oppression from you because you're taking their money.

As far as their ToS being a contract....meehhh that would probably never hold up in court. Not really sure why anyone is even talking about that if I'm honest. I mean there are certain stipulations for those things to be legally binding. If Nexusmods was even worried about legally binding contracts in regards to mod ownership they're definitely going about it all the wrong way LOL. There are plenty of sites that do that....they aren't like this.

I bought into lifetime a long while back so the changes won't affect me. That said, I hope mod authors flee and create another place that is like this one used to be before they forgot that they exist because of those authors in the first place.

Seeing this sentiment enough to want to weigh in on it now, LOL..

There are mod authors all over the internet, there always have been since probably before a lot of people here had their first abacus. Some sites have popped up over the years that gave people a place to pile up their mods, but those sites where made by the people taking initiative to do the back end work to make them happen. Mod authors didn't build the sites, they get benefits from them through usage. The continual growth and work and development of the site owners is what expands the site, not someone else piling on files. If there was none of that growth and development and critical thinking involving cash income then mod authors would be relegated to still using the very small limited bandwidth and storage solutions of yesteryear. That would be back in the era of creating your own personal server to host your own files on and paying for all of that out of your own pocket, and floppy disks, lets not forget our floppy disks.

Someone came along and simplified all of that and found creative ways to have the massive costs covered. It wasn't the people piling on files here. Without all that work all these mod authors would just be another hard to find person on the internet, and we would all have to go back to using rolodexs, and I'm not going back there man, I'm not! Credit goes where credit is due.

In a lot ways, the bunny isn't wrong. It is a bit of an echo chamber in this thread.

I didnt even read bunny person's comment fully. I started, and after a view seconds...I just laughed and moved on.

Which is interesting how you are unwilling to read any point fully that disagrees with your own ... isn't it? At least I read your comments even if I disagree with you. Because unlike you ... I am not closed minded in a bubble not wanting to hear anything that could possibly go against my own view. And here ... I will keep this short for you and just leave it at that, since you have a hard time reading.

i'd ignore that user they are simply a contrarian troll seemingly given free license to derail every thread they post in, with impunity.

Can anyone actually give a downside to this change? And I don't mean ... the "I don't want to lose control over my work" .. I already understand that. What I mean is ... let's say this change occurs and those who decide to stay accept those terms of not being able to fully delete their work, as in it's archived and is only able to be downloaded when it's in a collection. What is the downside?
Point is, it all just comes off to me like an overly emotional response more than there is anything legitimately wrong with it. And it's not like the site is forcing it on you either as it's not like they are taking it without asking. They are giving you a choice and it may not seem like a good choice to you, but it still is a choice.
And ... I also don't see why so many are hesitant to move on. I get, in a way, you could view this site as your home (metaphorically), but right now you have a difference of opinion with the owner of said home. In a way, I guess it's kind like when you disagree with a parent who technically owns the house, or maybe a roommate who is renting a room out to you. It can suck ... I get that. But is it so wrong to just accept the difference of opinion and go your own way? Sometimes in life you will not have all the options you want, so you just have to choose the one that works best for you.

@Brabbit1987,

You say that it's "practically no different then when you go on youtube" but it's actually very different because YouTube allows authors to delete their videos.

I didn't say that in that context. You should probably read the entire thing.

Just disagreeing isn't the same as derailing a thread. It's literally still on topic.

hence the use of the phrase "contrarian troll".

See this person, literally never answers anyone who disagrees with them and just name calls, and insults. Ignoring literally everything. How can anyone ever come to any sort of agreement or compromise if you are simply unwilling to make an effort and discuss things? This person in particular is the definition of projection. They are the one trolling, but like to call everyone else a troll. You know this is true because at least I am providing my view and thoughts on things and giving arguments. As in I am adding to the conversation. Where as they, it's just .. .as I said ... spewing garbage and nothing more. It's no wonder they have nearly 4k posts. Quantity and no quality. No substance.

Yanno, I remember visiting the Kansas City Zoo on vacation as a child - one of the most popular attractions was their sea lion habitat. They had quite a few of them, and they were quite the performers, and beggars. There was a vending machine nearby that would dispense a couple of small fish in a little paper cup to feed them. You could toss those fish most anywhere inside the habitat and a sea lion would catch it and swallow it whole.

But that was a long time ago, and I don't feed sea lions anymore. Or other types of trolls.
