Fizziepop Posted December 19, 2021 Posted December 19, 2021 Hi hi. I need some help, please.I have Skyrim AE installed, and modded with Vortex (even though Vortex identified my AE edition as SE), and it was (mostly) working.. but lots of black-screen crashes, as I hear is common with modded AE. So I also installed Special Edition, on the same hard drive as my functional AE. I would like to edit my mod list slightly to play a new game in Special Edition. So I enabled profiles, and cloned my AE profile so as to remember what mods I had installed before. I have enabled the new profile, and can watch the amount of mods numbers change in the right profile as I alter my list.I made sure the version of Skyrim Vortex is pointed to managing is the correct folder path for my SE, the one I just installed. It recognized that my version of SKSE was not right, and told me to update that. So I did that, following the instructions in the knowledge base. It doesn't nag me about that anymore. It seems to have installed all of my mod files into the new SE folder. Which is great! Everything seems to look good on paper. To me. But when I download (through vortex) and install a new mod, it tells me it cannot sort the plugins, because the 2 new mods I have added are both invalid plugins. So it "Failed to parse plugins".If it were just the one mod, I can understand it may be a mod problem, but these 2 mods are somewhat unrelated, and no-one else seems to be having this error with these mods. What am I missing? Thanks
showler Posted December 19, 2021 Posted December 19, 2021 You seem to be confused about what AE is. AE is simply SE version 1.6 instead of 1.5. There is an optional DLC pack you can buy with extra content, but it is only of concern if a mod uses or conflicts with that extra content. So, what you are attempting to do is manage two different installations of Skyrim SE with Vortex, and it's not really designed to do that. It can manage two profiles on the same installation, but two different installations is probably going to cause all kinds of problems. I did manage to do this briefly, but only by setting Vortex to manage mods on a per User basis and setting up as second account in Windows to keep them separate.
Fizziepop Posted December 19, 2021 Author Posted December 19, 2021 So then I should uninstall AE and it should work? According to Vortex right now, I don't have AE anymore, it only sees the SE install. I wouldn't have thought that would be interfering..
Fizziepop Posted December 19, 2021 Author Posted December 19, 2021 Okay, I have discovered the issue, but idk how to get around it.When I install a mod, it installs into my SE folder, as it should. The file is not in my AE folder, which is causing the issue. If I manually drop the plugin into the old AE folder, vortex sorts the list np. It's still reading from AE, even though the managed game is pointing at SE. There must be an extra location pointer I am missing somewhere, that tells it where to find the mods it has installed.Weird that it doesn't know where it just installed a mod to though.
Community Manager Pickysaurus Posted December 19, 2021 Community Manager Posted December 19, 2021 That message has nothing to do with game version. Vortex attempted to read the data from that plugin and couldn't for some reason. The file may be corrupted. Try redownloading the mod from the site and install again?
Fizziepop Posted December 20, 2021 Author Posted December 20, 2021 I think I fixed my problem - by renaming my AE edition folder. It gives me no errors when I install a mod now. Thank you
