Gabbemaster
Personally I don't care so much about graphics. I mean, i love old games like:StarTropics (NES)Sonic 1-2-3 (Sega)Supermario 1-2-3 (NES)And such.
Switch
I'm just worried that one day, video games will become so graphically realistic that they'll kill themselves. I mean, even now we have technology that can recognise movements within the game world, what if that technology becomes total? Playing video games could eventually actually involve walking around as yourself in a photo realistic environment. This is the "best" case scenario for advancement. If it does go that way, then video games could become more of a sport than something you can just kick back, play, and relax with. That would definitely damage things badly, as most people enjoy the fact that they can just sit down and play, and wouldn't want to get into some sort of technological jump suit then go running around for hours. Just my two cents :P

Just my two cents :P<{POST_SNAPBACK}>Well that sounds a bit like the main reason why I hate the Sims, because why make a damn game about something that I already have to do in real life? I'm playing on the computer because it does something I CANT do in real life. However if the computer does something I like which I cannot do IRL, it doesn't matter much how realistic it is. If they invent something that makes me able to live in a virtual world for extended periods of time I won't hesistate to use it. Already am staring at a screen for 10-14 hours a day anyway. Slaiv
True, true.... But I'm with Switch - Videogames are supposed to be entertainment, not a sport.
Crim, The Red Thunder
BLASPHEMY!!!!!! When was the last time any of you were at a competition for video games|?!?!?!?!?!?!? Video games are already a sport. Many are MADE for competition. (Unreal championship... enough said.) MTV watchers out there, remember the "True Life: Im a gamer."? anyone? I would certainly say it's a sport for some people.(granted, that's the only MTV i have EVER watched in my 18 years on this earth, since they dont do japanese music... that's only on satellite channels for us cable-using americans...) However, if games reach that point, im sure the movements required will not be strenuous, since many gamers are becoming overweight (according to the filthy @$!@$@ down at weightwatchers...) and are not capable of long strenuous movements. (Yo! Right here! :P ... And im proud of my lifestyle!) (BTW, no offense intended to big hulking muscular gamers out there.)
SirVivealot
as someone stated before: if there is a demand, there will be a supply. humans have an innate hunger for entertainment/pleasure. i dont believe this will change anytime soon. as long as this need is there, there will always be books, films, music and of course games. (BTW: i think in the near future we will see the game industry merging with the movie industry.) i have two visions of the future of video games:1: in the distant, distant, distant future: human labor will be a thing of the past. ALL work will be done by machines. with no effort required for our own sustenance there will only be pleasure to live for. itll be like the matrix reversed. we'll hook our brains up to a mmorpg style system that will completely replace reality. in this system we will have everything we can imagine. a utopian society in which all are free and able to do anything they want at any time. vibrant social life, fantastic adventures and experiences i cant even think of right now.Graphics are reaching their limits. Once you get to ultra-photorealistic, you can't get better. How do explain going past that? Acid trip videogames? when weve finally managed to create a vr that is indistinguishable from reality just think where we can go from there. well invent new and staggeringly beautiful colors, new tastes etc even completely new senses with which to percieve virtual impulses. in one word itll be sensational if you know what i mean. 2: in the not so distant, distant, distant future: 11.07 2034 AD. processors with atom-sized transistors are being mass-produced. this being the smallest possible, human technological advancement comes to a screeching halt. ironically this is also the day on which all our fates are sealed. for 11.07 2034 marks the final day of the last battle of the war to end all wars. china has become a second superpower to oppose america and has united all of eurasia with one goal in mind: to attain the last natural oil reserves in south america, held of course by america. the blast of thousands of nuclear missiles detonating at once is augmented by the oil underneath. as the rest of mankind that survived the explosion ready themselves for the nuclear winter, they begin to realize that its actually getting warmer... fast. the blast that reduced venezuela to a smouldering crater (that was swallowed by the caribbean sea in less than an hour) was just about enough to shift earths vector in its orbit around the sun. this deviation led to a calamity of newtonian proportions. with no oil to fuel any feasable attempts to save mankind we all stand and wait as earth spirals to its doom. the screams of the last humans still reverberate slowly and mutely throughout the universe as earth evaporates in the suns outer corona.with which i mean to say the day technology stagnates is the day earth is destroyed. itll never happen! Slaiv
Injecting video games? People have cashed in to the sex game category - Liesure Suit Larry, Singles, etc.... People don't buy them. They don't sell. So they don't make money. And hey, that's what videogames are all about, right, EA? ;)
Crim, The Red Thunder
That's cause you actually have to walk up to the fat nerd at the counter and ask for them :bleh: !!!!! seriously, i think NS was talking about the future of video games, i.e. Total Immersion. IT dont get much better then that! (Stupid phrase: Id buy THAT for a dollar! or 40.)
