Makes sense. Gay marriage under a different name would be tarnished and have no prestige or good image. So instead we'll just bung them altogether and tarnish the name of marriage in general. Are you then not discriminating against the people who got married previously as 'straight'?

I would not feel discriminated against in the least if all legal unions were to be given the same name. Actually, it think it tarnishes the name of marriage to deny marriage to some groups of people.

No, because that "prestige" of "straight-only" exists only because of discrimination. Claiming that it would be discrimination to change the definition of marriage would be like claiming it's stealing to recover stolen goods from a thief.

In your analogy who's the thief and who's the person recovering the goods in terms of this argument?

The people who want the "prestige" of marriage being straight-only (the thief) are benefiting from illegal discrimination (stealing). They aren't being discriminated against (stolen from) when the government corrects the earlier discrimination (returns the stolen goods).

Well, as far as I know, marriage defines a spiritual union between MAN and WOMAN. If homosexuals want to unite spiritually, why must they name it marriage? It ISN'T marriage.

I'd like to quote from the Wikipedia -

Marriage is a relationship and bond, most commonly between a man and a woman, that plays a key role in the definition of many families. Precise definitions vary historically and between and within cultures, but it has been an important concept as a socially sanctioned bond in a sexual relationship.

So why can homosexual marriage not be a socially sanctioned bond in a sexual relationship? Because a part of our society consists of prejudiced bigots?

That's what it comes down to, IMO.
