Slaiv
And EQ2 is Disney Land for rich old people. :P
Abramul
Is WoW old enough that the economy has stabilized yet? I assume there IS one, if they call it an MMORPG.
valdir
Just because a game sells a lot on the first day it has to blow? Interesting logic. Is this this mainstream sucks thing again?<{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hahah, the internet sarcasm rolled right past you. I was joking. :D Also, I'd rather have WoW graphics that are cartoonish and wonderful, than EQ2's graphics which try to emulate the real world, where it's imperfections stand out and detract from the immersion. end of line. Nothing imperfect about EQ2's graphics in the slightest - some would say it's its greatest strength - its not meant to emulate real world landscapes, but it does a damn good job of convincing you that you're actually there (i.e. immersion) over WoW...where I think I'm watching a Marvel comic cartoon series. Switch
Ohh, right Valdir :P sorry, I find it hard to tell. Personally, as some people have said, I think EQ2 graphics are overdone, to the point where they look like plastic. I've never seen so much bump mapping and other such effects that would be impressive in moderation, but when lumped together in gross amounts look just plain ugly. It's still impressive, yes, but I'm not sure in a good way. ;P I don't know how long I could look at it before having to stop and go rest my eyes. Not to mention, a lot of systems would have to run it on minimum settings to get it to run smoothly, which looks just plain awful. WoW may be more cartoon like, but at least the artists put real work into it, rather than relying mainly on the graphical abilities of the engine. The movements of characters are very fluid and the game runs extremely smoothly on even mid-range systems.
Dark0ne
WoW may be more cartoon like, but at least the artists put real work into it Ug..hope you're joking. The EQ2 dev team did such a better job of selling their game to the public, rather than just relying on the name "Warcraft" being in there somewhere and knowing that all the kiddies would come flocking to it like tramps to a free food stall. Go to gametrailers.com and load up EQ2 trailers, then WoW trailers...you'll soon be saying "WoW" to EQ2 and going "WTF IS THAT?" to the WoW trailers. valdir
Darky, Darky, Darky. If you're going to quote someone at least use the whole damn quote before you make a fool of yourself. What Switch said was "WoW may be more cartoon like, but at least the artists put real work into it, rather than relying mainly on the graphical abilities of the engine" meaning the art is of higher quality and more well done than EQ2's "let's wrap things in saran wrap" approach. I don't see any bumping mapping in WoW, and it looks perfectly majestical, like it should. Also, The EQ2 dev team did such a better job of selling their game to the public, rather than just relying on the name "Warcraft" being in there somewhere and knowing that all the kiddies would come flocking to it like tramps to a free food stall. Are you telling me that EQ2's devs DIDNT flood every download site with banner ads? And are you telling me that people won't buy Everquest 2 simply because its THE SECOND EVERQUEST GAME? Sorry, but I fail to realize the point you were trying to make. Still e-buds? That said, EQ platinum emulator servers are up. Not that I'm suggesting anything, b/c that's against forum regulations. :innocent:

And are you telling me that people won't buy Everquest 2 simply because its THE SECOND EVERQUEST GAME? Sorry, but I fail to realize the point you were trying to make. Nope..didn't even mention it. Infact if you take your own advice and read what I said... The EQ2 dev team did such a better job of selling their game to the public I referred to the actual advertisements themselves - specifically the game trailers - not that EQ2 didn't advertise and WoW did. meaning the art is of higher quality and more well done than EQ2's "let's wrap things in saran wrap" approach. I don't see any bumping mapping in WoW, and it looks perfectly majestical, like it should. Majestical is a long shot. I'll stick with Disney-Land-Esque. I'd like to see some comparisons, observations and examples of where you think WoW's art is better than EQ2, and that the WoW devs "put real work into it" and where the EQ2 devs didn't. Simply saying (not a direct quote ;)); "OMG, EQ2 devs used bump-mapping, they must be t3h suck!!!111 eleven one one" isn't going to cut it. valdir
http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/world-of-warcraft....html?fromint=1 ^_^ Edit-http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/...orldofwarcraft/ Edit 2-Here's the real answer. I just like my games with their own unique artful "flair". WoW happens to have the "flair" I like while Everquest 2's graphics don't capture the same awe-inspiring feel. Plus, I noticed that I smiled more while playing WoW. :)
Dark0ne
What am I looking at in that GameSpy article? I've already made myself clear about not taking major online gaming companies seriously, but rather with a pinch of salt due to their background polotics and money deals. I just like my games with their own unique artful "flair". WoW happens to have the "flair" I like while Everquest 2's graphics don't capture the same awe-inspiring feel. Thats fine, you're entitled to your opinion, just don't back Switch up when he says the EQ2 devs didn't put as much effort into the artwork as the WoW devs ;)
