Mods still present in-game despite deleting them

Hello,

So recently I installed Fcom superpack and tweaked it to how I wanted play to be. It is almost exactly how I want it and it works very well. The only issue is two mods "Drop Lit Torches" and "Let there be Darkness". Both mods refuse to disappear despite the fact I deleted them completely and rebuilt the bashed patch. I checked all remaining mods and neither of them show up anywhere. I tried messing with oblivion.ini and that did nothing. I tried for 2+ hours to fix this but the mods refuse to disappear from the game. The mods don't show up anywhere I search but clearly they have to exist somewhere. I don't want to do a clean install again because it took me awhile to get the game where it is right now. If you came recommend anything else please let me know.

Thanks

I would double-check by hand if these files are truly removed from data dir, despite yor mod manager saying it dit it. Let There Be Darkness installs some files in Meshes/Dungeons/Misc/Fx directory so your dungeons will be affected even after disabling the esps. Drop Lit Torches mods are mostly esp based with some ini file, so if it still present the esp must be present and activated too. These two mods are small, so manual file check shouldn't be much trouble.

Good test is to load a save which you know it uses these two mods. If it loads without a warning message, these two mods are still present and activated.

So I knew about the files in meshes and one of the first things I tried was deleting them. It did not work. I scoured the data folder once again for anything pertaining to those mods and nothing comes up. I just don't understand how this is possible. As far as I can tell there is nothing left of either of these mods.

What happens if you launch Oblivion's original launcher and select Data Files? Are these two mods still present in a list? Again, if you load a save which is using these two mods, do you see warning about missing content (Oblivion complains if you want load a save which is using more activated esps than they're now)?

Maybe it's also worth mentioning this "FCOM Superpack" (unrelated to the actual FCOM albeit the name) is an unauthorized compilation of stolen works, everything in 1 download and only hosted on crime-supporting 3rd party file hosts, the text book example of what made authors learn to hate the term "mod pack" back in its days, and for a while even mentioning its name in these forums was forbidden, as it was always reacted to with a barrage of verbal attacks.

The problem with this "pack", apart from its illegality and blatant disrespect to mod authors as a concept, always was that nobody but the compiler, especially nobody on here, ever knew what actually was inside this pack and what which ESP file in the compilation actually does.

They must've made a bunch of patches, or compiled a really complex single one, and also introduced their own personal changes to balance out conceptual incompatibilities.

There's no trail of Drop Lit Torches or Let There Be Darkness in your installation from what we can see. But as nobody here knows what other files are inside the pack and what these contain, the effects from either mod could just as well be reintroduced from other ESPs the name of which doesn't tell.

I was going to mention the Windows situation of manual changes to contents of folders inside program files being prevented through redirecting every interaction to a "VirtualStore" (or similar, depending on Windows version) folder inside your user folders.

Usually this prevents mod managers from installing files, as the managers and even the user can only see and manipulate the contents of the VirtualStore folder, whereas the program Oblivion itself cannot be fooled by Windows the same way and does not look into there.

But it could also be you removing files from the VirtualStore somehow doesn't copy over to the actual Data folder, and so as far as the game is concerned nothing changed.

But if all else fails, I'm afraid only the creator of the illegal pack will be able to help here.

This probably isnt the problem, but ill try. Maskar's oblivion overhaul makes scripted changes to the darkness of interiors. maybe let there be darkness isnt making the interiors darker but maskar's script is? Also i think maskar's also makes scripted changes to exterior night time darkness.
