philipjafry
Hello, I am trying to install Vortex on a laptop but no matter reinstalling (clean), rebooting, turning off the firewall, I keep getting this error Vortex suggest to delete the User/..../AppData/..../skyrimse/masterlist folder to force it to download a new one but it does not exist actually. As well as masterlist.yaml Some users sucessfully overcome this error by deleting the git.config file located in the user folder but I do not have it either. Anyone has a clue? EDIT trying to manage Skyrim SE, on win 11 laptop (x64) (working fine in my GF laptop with same OS) Here the errors _____________________________________________________________________ UNABLE TO UPDATE MASTERLIST ENOENT: no such file or directory, stat 'C:\Users\Meeting Room\AppData\Roaming\Vortex\skyrimse\masterlist\masterlist.yaml'Error at Object.statAsync (C:\Modding\Vortex\resources\app.asar\renderer.js:9072:216) at t.default.<anonymous> (C:\Modding\Vortex\resources\app.asar.unpacked\bundledPlugins\gamebryo-plugin-management\index.js:2:633429) _________________________________________________________________ UNABLE TO LOAD MASTER-/USERLIST ENOENT: no such file or directory, stat 'C:\Users\Meeting Room\AppData\Roaming\Vortex\skyrimse\masterlist\masterlist.yaml'Error at Object.statAsync (C:\Modding\Vortex\resources\app.asar\renderer.js:9072:216) at t.default.<anonymous> (C:\Modding\Vortex\resources\app.asar.unpacked\bundledPlugins\gamebryo-plugin-management\index.js:2:633429) Thanks
Pickysaurus
Restarting Vortex should fix this. If it doesn't try creating a blank file with that file name.
philipjafry
Thanks for the reply. Reinstalling didnt help me, even with manually cleaning leftover files between installations. Ive tried to create a dummy file with that name and upon opening Vortex did prompt me to rebuild master list but this lead me to a third error Restarting Vortex should fix this. If it doesn't try creating a blank file with that file name.
Pickysaurus
Can you click "More" on the new error? The notification alone doesn't tell us anything. It sounds like the folder permissions might be borked so Vortex isn't allow to edit it.

Ive tried run as admin but I had a prompt from Vortex saying that it should be not run with admin settings so I quit.Anyway here the error: ENOENT: no such file or directory, stat 'C:\Users\Meeting Room\AppData\Roaming\Vortex\skyrimse\masterlist\masterlist.yaml'Error at Object.statAsync (C:\Modding\Vortex\resources\app.asar\renderer.js:9072:216) at t.default.<anonymous> (C:\Modding\Vortex\resources\app.asar.unpacked\bundledPlugins\gamebryo-plugin-management\index.js:2:631882) As said same as the n.2. I am out of ideas... its kind of weird
showler
Probably a stupid question, but did you make sure the dummy file you created was "masterlist.yaml" and not "masterlist.yaml.txt" due to Windows hiding extensions by default?

philipjafry
Try deleting the entire masterlist folder and restart Vortex. First I want to thank you a lot for the support...This was actually the first troubleshooting step I've found on the forum but as written on my first post: Vortex suggest to delete the User/..../AppData/..../skyrimse/masterlist folder to force it to download a new one but it does not exist actually. As well as masterlist.yaml I do not have the folder. So I created it and create a dummy file as you suggested titled masterlist.yaml.At that point, Vortex prompted me to force update the masterlist, but the result was that instead of getting 2 warning notifications, I now have 3. The third is identical to the second. It has surely something to do with permissions... But it's not the firewall... the network work just fine... can download, upload, and navigate without any troubles... I thought it might be something related to my windows user profile (it's admin) because there's a space on its name. So I uninstalled Vortex again and went ahead creating a new user (admin) named "Marco".Run Skyrim SE from the new user, and reinstalled Vortex... but keep getting the same three errors... I really am clueless now...

Do not worry, it's not a stupid question!!! it could actually be an easily overlooked thing... but this is not my case, unfortunately.I am aware of the hiding extensions feature being turned on by default. Thank you for your contribution anyway! I really appreciate the supprot
Pickysaurus
If you created an entirely fresh Windows user account and got the same issue it's sounds more like a security app blocking Vortex from downloading files to that location. You could try going to %appdata% and renaming the "Vortex" folder to "Vortex_backup" or something. Then start Vortex up and it will appear to have been factory reset. From there try to manage the game and see if you get the same error. If you do it's either a security app issue or something is wrong with the permissions for the entire appdata folder. To revert from this test, close Vortex and delete the new "Vortex" folder in %appdata%, then rename the backup folder back to "Vortex" this will restore your configuration you have now.
