I see your point TheThirdRace, maybe I feel the way I do because I am not going to just ban users from using my stuff on a whim unless they blatantly are setting out to just be an annoyance or to cause an argument. But I suppose some less tolerant mod authors may do. I guess we will just have to see how it goes in the coming months and see if mod authors will abuse it or not.

Is there not the possibility of some abuse here by a mod author, if they so wish. What if I post a mod that contains a virus then delete and block any user or comment that attempts to warn others?

I understand your position, but there is a nuance I'd like to do.

What the Nexus provides is a public place to distribute your mod for free to everyone. Mod authors have the ability to offer a "clean" page and present their mods however they want, but they never could chose their clientele before. Technically, choosing your clientele is illegal in about every decent countries of the world.

That's a subtle difference, but an important one to make.

Edit: Not the best example in the world I'll admit. My point is still that authors shouldn't see their page as private or their home, it's a public place. Edited November 25, 2013 by TheThirdRace

If the users report your file before you can ban them from the page or if they just report the file without commenting, you have no chance to distribute your malware. It gets taken down quite fast and you are shown the door permanently. Edited November 25, 2013 by lifestorock

Haha, I laughed so hard. Modders always were able to choose the place where to host their mods. There are other community sites to use. And the choice to use an own private site is / was and will always be there. A lot of modders vanished from the big sites in the past because of users becoming rude. Just ask Slof, she has quite an experience with personal attacks because of her work.

Nothing about sorting out users is illegal. You can't compare the new system to a face control before accessing a mod page or downloading a mod. If you want a pictorial comparison you can compare the system to a disco visit. Start throwing bottles around and you will be kicked out. Nothing illegal about it. Yes I agree. If someone is blocking people for reasons such as race or sex or hair color. But if someone comes in your shop and trashes it you are allowed to throw them out and not let them back in. Edited November 25, 2013 by greggorypeccary

Yeah, wasn't my greatest example so I modified my post accordingly. You can also picture me whistle looking like a moron if you like :)

I still stand behind my opinion that silencing trouble makers is the right path. If a ban is in order, it should be from the whole Nexus sites and thus from a Nexus staff member.

I would agree to an automatic ban when a user has been blocked by 5 different authors in the last 300 days. The less you involve emotions, the less there's a chance of unfair consequences.

I would also agree with authors having a ban option if there was any appeal process, but without any regulations it's a no go for me. Edited November 25, 2013 by TheThirdRace
