Aasmodeusss
When I install or reinstall mods via Vortex I often get the "external changes save or revert?" notification. From what I've read I believe I should be saving changes after installing or updating mods but if I select save changes it always breaks my mod by deleting all it's files and and marking it redundant. What is the cause of this? What is the purpose of this option? Obviously it's not meant to break mods but this seems to be the only thing that happens when I use the save changes option. I've tried to research this but the only responses I can find seem to be that the user must me messing around with their files outside of Vortex but this is definitely not the case for me, I'm only using Vortex and not manually editing any files. This happens both in Fallout 4 and Skyrim. What am I not getting? Am I mistaken that I should be saving changes after updating or reinstalling mods? Why is save changes deleting all the mod files? Zanderat
Sounds to me like your AV is messing with your mods, maybe quarantining what it sees as a threat and thus Vortex is detecting the change.
Pickysaurus
As the dialogue says, the files Vortex deployed have been edited by something that isn't Vortex. You're being given a chance to save or undo the changes before they are "committed" to the staging folder.
Aasmodeusss
Sounds to me like your AV is messing with your mods, maybe quarantining what it sees as a threat and thus Vortex is detecting the change. That makes sense. I could try excluding the folder from my AV and see if that helps. Any suggestions on which folder that would be? My Data folder?
Aasmodeusss
I still haven't been able to find a solution for this. It's not all mods but it is most of them. it seems to be random which mods are effected. I have controlled folder access turned off as I've read that can cause issues as well as both Vortex and steam are installed in a custom file as I've read installing them in Program Files can cause issues as well but neither change has seemed to make a difference. Both Vortex and Steam have been excluded from my antivirus and that doesn't seem to have helped either.
Rodocastiza
This happens to me when I reinstall several mods in bulk, and not changes outside have happened.
Wolfpack49
I notice this with skse sometimes. I always just choose Revert instead of Save/Delete.
Aasmodeusss
Still getting this issue every time I update or redeploy mods, its not my antivirus as I have my antivirus blocked from all my vortex, steam and mod files now. Selecting "revert" every time seems to be the right call but I would still like to know what's going on here. Has anyone figures this out?
Deleted6174501User
I've seen this happen when different mod types have a file conflict. It'll perpetually register an external change on every deployment bc their internal folder structure don't match each other (though still registers in vortex as conflicting files). Aasmodeusss
I just accidentally wiped my mods out because vortex detected a bunch of file changes and I thought it was the couple thousand Nemesis animation files I had just deleted so I hit confirm and now I'm spending my evening reinstalling all my mods, lol. Although it was totally my fault for letting Vortex delete my files it sure would be nice if this issue got fixed.
