Dark0ne
I quite like Linkin Park to be honest, and their latest album with Jay-Z is a slice of marketing genius. They mix rap with rock, a very clever combination considering the current trends in music and to me it doesn't sound half bad -- they conduct themselves maturely and effectively and I haven't a bad thing to say about them. People seem to piss on their successful parade because it became mainstream during Hybrid Theory...sounds like popularity heckling to me.

The best part of them was when they released that album with the same songs that were on another album of theirs.
draighox
Greenday? More like Red Day. Or American Idiots. Playing political music with communistic star on one of their guitars. Mind, they even don't play brilliantly. I see no difference between them and some pop band except the abscence of guitar. The only reason I don't like Linkin Park is because I hate rap. ThetaOrionis01
Adelbert: I don't think Linkin Park are that bad - I've heard a lot worse bands... What is it that you have against them? draighox: You dislike Green Day because of the political leanings they express in their songs? Hmm... I guess that remark about the 'communistic star' explains it
Abramul
Woot, Pop still has 0 votes! (Could there be a reason?)
Glinus
I voted punk, just because I probably have more of that than anything, but I love most music (except commercial pop, r'n'b and other such crap.). Whoever was asking about grunge bands:SoundgardenPixies (pre-Nirvana) are both considered to be of the 'grunge genre'. Whilst Linkin Park aren't the worse band in the world, they certainly aren't worth mentioning as being a good one... Even if you don't agree with the political/controversial stance that a band have, you can still like them! I lean more towards right-wing but still think Green Day are awesome (have most of their albums and saw them at Reading Festival). Oh and speaking of Classic Rock -- Pink Floyd just came on )on random) :wink2:

It's probably true that the public opinion has made me disslike them a little more than normal, but I just think they're rubbish. I mean, sure, one or two of their songs may sound ok, but in the long run, they're not my kind of music.
loveme4whoiam
I would also like to put in a vote for classical music, which is the most permenant of all the genres listed. I doubt in one hundred years time seventy-years olds and Philosphy graduates turning on Classic FM to listen to Metallica and THE WORLDS WORST BAND EVER THEY LOOK AND SOUND LIKE TRAMPS ARGHHHH!!!111eleven. Classical music will always be liked, will all other forms of music are subject to ups and downs in popularity. Hmm, i don't remember saying that... Yeah, it does explain it. smiley.gif I just hate when prince Harry is atacked by whole world just for making fun of nazis, while this guy from Greenday is bearing communist star and everyone thinks he's cool. Was he making fun of the Nazis? I hope so, but he was still a complete idiot in his choice of costume. Anyway, thats a topic for another discussion. If Greenday are trying to make a political point, they wouldn't be the first music group to do so. Who was it that joined the Republican bandwagon in the summer supporting Kerry? Bruce Springstein was it? (You'll have to forgive me if ive mixed my politicians/parties. American politics only interests me for its comic value). I don't care if they're trying to make a point, i care about their music, which is brilliance, in my opinion. And the thing about "that band", i'm surprised i like them as well - most rappers sound like juveniles and behave like the same age group let loose in a gun shop - but the sound is nice. Most of their album stuff is good with one or two exceptions, where the rap is the main element. Oh, i also have to mention the Foo Fighters, since they just came on in my speakers, and are also brilliance. A drummer who can sing? Who knew? Slaiv
[rant]Dinnæ like Greenday. Greenday are a pop-culture [not pop genre] band. They appeal to the masses. From interviews and sound recordings of the band, I don't feel like they know enough about the topics they supposedly have views on to be able to legitimately back their opinions. Also, it seems to me that Green Day interestingly became political soon after the heated political battle between the two parties began, and politics were the "in" thing...... And about the communist thing - I sincerely doubt that Greenday is communist. If they supported Kerry, then they can't be "red." If they support the American political structure under Kerry, and try to portray themselves as communist, then they have no legitimate say in politics.[/rant]
