Ninjaman2222
Hi, My computer doesn't have the best memory, and I wanted to mod Skyrim with large number of mods which take up a decent amount of memory, to do so I bought an external hard drive to install it all on. I've reinstalled Vortex, and Skyrim. Set up the steam folder within the new hard drive using the tools in steam settings to do so. I've also set up a download and staging folder for Vortex within the new drive, following online instructions for how to do so. I've even downgraded my game from AE to SE like instructed. However when doing it on my own, and with a guide I've had the same issue, Vortex will not use the correct deployment method. A warning will pop up in red saying deployment not possible, when opening it it says "Deployment method "Hardlink Deployment" not available because: Filesystem doesn't support hard links." But I did everything that was instructed and can't find any additional information online. I'd appreciate some help. Thank you.
showler
Your external drive is likely not formatted with NTFS, which is a requirement of hard link deployment.
rmm200
That is a Windows requirement, not a Vortex requirement. Nothing Vortex can do to fix it. You may be able to reformat the drive NTFS (losing all your files in the process).
showler
I think Windows may now have a lossless conversion wizard. I have a vague memory of having used it once.
rmm200
Well this is what Google tells me. I have never tried it personally: 1. Convert FAT32 to NTFS without Losing Data Using CMD Step 1: You can start the command prompt by right-clicking on the "Windows" icon and choose "Search". ... Step 2: Type "help convert" and hit on the "Enter" key. ... Step 3: Type the command "convert G: /ntfs:and press the "Enter" key.

Unfortunately my hard drive is already formatted to NTFS, it came that way.
Pickysaurus
Make sure your game and the mod staging folder are both on the same drive.
