abb1
The problem with the notion of "only let paying people download" is that it's a direct violation of the EULA that came with the game and the CS. It is not legal to charge for distribution of user created mods that were generated by the CS (or GECK). I can guarantee you that authors pulling their mods from distribution here would be the least of anyone's worries because Bethesda themselves would likely come knocking. It would only be a violation of the EULA if the mods were created by Bethesda, which they were NOT. That is like Adobe being in violation of Microsofts Vista EULA for making software for their OS and charging for it. We are all getting frustrated with the constant slowdowns and error messages and this has to be dealt with. If anybody can think of a better solution , please post it, but remember, bandwidth costs money, so there will be a cost factor :(
exanimis
I think the suggestion made by abb1 would solve a lot of the problems with slow times here on the nexus. First of all, if only paying members could download mods, the nexus would loose a huge amount of members. Second, non paying members would not upload any new mods and would probably request that their mods be pulled from a site that they could no longer download from. Third, without being able to download from the site, new membership to the Nexus would be almost non existent. Eventually the Nexus would run extremely fast for the few people on the forum. I bet the main topic of the forum would be "What happened to all the great mods and modders?

SavageArtistry
SavageArtistry, I think that you are misinterprenting my main intention. I appreciate your mods that you have uploaded as well as all those that have made this site what it is today. However, the bandwidth is becoming seriously overcrowded with more and more IPS Errors and site slowdowns. Two ways of fixing this is 1) reduce the members (which nobody wants) or 2) pay for a larger bandwidth, which can be done through sponsors (meaning popups like crazy) or PAYING MEMBERS. I am not calling anyone worthless, as EVERY member has made this site what it is today, however, this problem must be looked at before it gets worse and it WILL get worse.Keep in mind, that paying to be premium members is cheaper than online gaming which most of its subscribers are either high school or college students, and they have very fixed incomes as well. Like Arthmoor said, I'd have no issue if the suggestion were for extra incentives to paying members. That offers everyone a choice. What I have issue with is you assuming things about other people. Telling me to "keep in mind, that paying to be premium members is cheaper than online gaming which most of its subscribers are either high school or college students, and they have very fixed incomes as well" is presumptuous. It's as presumptuous as declaring that "All gamers are males." Well, the last time I looked I was neither male nor a student, and my financial status is none of your business. I will tell you however that I do not pay for online gaming. I never have and I never will. As far as my online gaming habits are concerned, I go for games like Guild Wars which are a one-time fee only, or free betas. Not everyone is willing to shell out for a subscription to World of Warcraft or Everquest. Are the IPS Driver Errors still coming up? I haven't seen any myself since last night when the site went down briefly (I'm guessing to work on the problem). After it came back up the imageshare area worked fine. Scratch that.. it just happened again. Dark0ne, I'd also like to personally thank you and the moderators for this site and all that it offers, whether we can contribute financially or not, so thank you very much. I wasn't being presumtuous, as the online gaming thing is something that I read a while ago because for the life of me, I could not understand why anyone would pay for a game and then PAY to play it. I should not have mentioned it because I cannot find the info that I got this from but it was an article about a poll that was taken for online gamers. Dark0ne, so far no more IPS driver errors came up, then again, I try to log on to non-busy times

Dark0ne, so far no more IPS driver errors came up, then again, I try to log on to non-busy times I'm not hostile, just annoyed, and although I find it rude for someone to assume I'm annoyed because of gender I'll leave that argument for another time, especially since I am not 100% sure that's what you mean by the way you wrote that first sentence. The reason I am annoyed is that I live my life with people, including family members, making snap judgements about everything I do, from my motives down to my financial situation. Your comments just hit me at the wrong time after some major family issues. So I shall apologize for perceived hostility and just say I disagree with your opinion on this.
