Do you even know the meaning of "groundbreaking"? In what way does Halo fit this definition? The only new and unique thing Halo did was be the first xbox game even remotely worth playing.

Although all of Halos rabid fans say is it great is really isnt. To this day I wholeheartedly belive Bungie and Microsoft have built a mindcontrol machine and are taking the minds of people everywhere........

The first FPS game to hit the XBox. FPS games are the most popular games on the market. Hence, Halo became popular.

Nothing to do with the game itself IMO. The game is playable, but it's far less than groundbreaking -- its a typical FPS.

FPS games on a console just wont work when compared to a FPS on a PC, its simple, the controll.

I wouldnt even consider Halo 2 a game, just take Halo 1, change a few things here and there, make the screen darker, and you get Halo 2.

Halo1 just wasnt my type of game, it felt slow and it didnt look the greatest, if you took out the bump mapping it wouldnt look that great.

but my idea of "groundbreaking" would be something that sets the new standards for a ganre, like the original C&C, Wolfenstien, One Must Fall 2097, Crusader : No Remorse or even Cannon Fodder.

Personally I enjoyed Halo/Halo 2, a couple of the best FPSes I've played. But I don't think there's anything particularly groundbreaking about them either. The graphics were nice, but that was mainly because of the XBox. I liked the style of weaponry in it. The storyline was good, for an FPS. But again, nothing groundbreaking IMO! Also, as Morbid said, the second game wasn't really a game on it's own. Most of the stuff in it was recycled from the initial version. All it added was a new storyline (very short) and the ability to dual wield, as well as a few new weapons and enemies. An expansion pack maybe, but a full £30 stand-alone game? I don't think so. Very enjoyable, though.

Half-Life 2 blows them out of the water IMO. I have to agree that nothing beats mouse and keyboard control in an FPS.

Half-Life 2. What was so great about it, really?

It was linear, it was boring. I just preffered playing UT2K4 online. Not for it's mindless gun slaughter, but for the skill the veterans had with all the jumping combo's, use of the translocater, etc.
