weirrdy
I bought an external hard drive for gaming, specifically Skyrim (the only game I play for fun). I downloaded Skyrim SE with the anniversary edition on this drive (F drive). I also downloaded vortex on the F drive. A Vortex downloads folder and vortex mod staging folder auto populated in the F drive as well. I am now downloading the Alternate Start mod (already downloaded SKSE64). I booted the game through the SKSE64 launcher in Vortex. When the game boots, it goes through the vanilla opening. It does not start with the Alternate Start mod opening. I tested this out with several other mods and none of them load. If I open the start menu in the game and go under the Mods tab, it shows that Alternate Start is downloaded, but it just isn't loading, as well as all other mods. I am guessing something is wrong with my download and mod staging folder, but I have no clue. Mod Staging folder path is F:\Vortex Mods\skyrimseMod download folder is F:\VortexGames\downloads\skyrimse.Skyrim folder is F:\Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim Special Edition.Vortex folder is F:\Black Tree Gaming\Vortex Nothing is on any other drive. hep me please

Pickysaurus
Where you say external HDD it leads me to think you might be missing an important message under the bell in Vortex. If your external drive does not have a NTFS file system you won't be able to deploy. Most external drives come with an exFAT or FAT32 file system. weirrdy
WD_BLACK 2TB D30 Game SSD - Portable External Solid State Drive, Compatible with Playstation, Xbox, & PC, Up to 900MB/s - WDBATL0020BBK-WESN Above is the exact external drive I purchased. I am unsure if it is an NFTS file system. I am looking it up now. I have no notification on Vortex that notify me of this issue when I deploy any mods or boot up Skyrim. And yes, all my mods are installed, enabled, and deployed.
weirrdy
So, I have formatted the WD Black D30 external SSD drive to an NTFS. I reinstalled steam, Skyrim and vortex. I downloaded the unofficial Skyrim patch mod, and the alternate start mod, as well as the SKSE64 mod. Still, when creating a new character, the vanilla beginning plays, not alternate start. I am stumped again.
showler
Look in the Data folder of your Skyrim install and make sure the mod files are showing as there.
rmm200
Also click the Plugins tab in Vortex and make sure everything there is enabled. Note that Live Another Life alternate start does not need SKSE. It should work whether you load your game with SKSE or not. It almost sounds like Vortex is pointing to a different Skyrim installation. Have you installed Skyrim more than once? Your problem is pretty unique; I have not seen this exact one before - and it should be easy to solve.
weirrdy
So, I have done some reading. I don't have the plugins tab in Vortex. I looked up what could cause this. Under the Extensions tab in vortex, I see that the Gamebryos Plugin Management is failed. I read that installed Microsoft Visual Studio C++ could help. I downloaded the most recent one. Still, the Gambryos Plugin Management is "failed". No matter how many times I try to enable it and restart vortex. I do not have a Vortex Plugins tab. weirrdy
I have also set up my antivirus to not block Vortex. I deactivated my windows defender. (I have windows 11). I also reinstalled Vortex, the newest version, from nexus mods, over the original location (which is my external hard drive, which I mentioned in this post above). Still, Gamebryos Plugin Managment is failed. No plugins tab. Occasionally, Bethesda archive check and gamebryos plugin indexlock are disabled, but after re-enabling them and restarting vortex, they are enabled again. I am unsure how to proceed. rmm200
You will have to report this as a bug. Upper three dots on the Vortex window.Make sure you include the Vortex log files. They will show where the failure is in extension not loading. No point in worrying about your other problems until we get the extension not loading resolved.
