Peregrine
personaly i vote for another scisem(sp?) That's one of the likely options, I'd say. The church (and religion in general) is getting really divided between the liberal and conservative sides, so some kind of split is almost inevitable. I guess it's your opinion they'll put in another strong conservative instead of a moderate who might keep things together?
Icefiddell
To be honest i see the Vatican and everything as a group of people stil trying to hold on to a time long since past. It's like they haven't even moved on from the Medieval Period, well i'm guessing they have electricity now. I dont know much about the Popacy but ive heard that this man was very traditional in his views and for todays society i think things really need to change, for example he was against contraception. So does that mean if you use contraception you are not being a good Catholic or just being careful and sensible? In my view i think things would be far better off without the Popacy, but thats just my view and i understand that there is over 1 billion Catholics world wide and that statement was not meant in any way offensive. draighox
Making fun of a death of a person is wrong, whoever that person is. But I do think that it's a nice idea for some things to change. Like the view of contraception, for instance. But again, it's sure wrong to make fun of a death of a person.
Darnoc
Well, I didn't know the Pope. But if he ever had some sense of humour and if there really is an afterlife and if the Pope is now in heaven, then he would be laughing with us about the jokes we make about his death. At least, I would laugh about my own death. Come on, a little self-humour is always good!

Dark0ne
And as always, you can see nothing but "peregrine the evil anti-christian" and fail completely to have any sense of humor. I didn't find it funny, and several others found it offensive. Poor them. None of those hypocrites would show any concern for the countless other people who died today. I'm sure they would, if they were true Christians. Maybe not as much concern, but a religious leader should no doubt deserve more concern and respect when he has done so much for his people, in their opinion. I watched a mass service on BBC News 24, and the bishop prayed for all the people in the world [today] who are suffering, hurting, etc. etc. And I'm sure most of them would laugh at a joke about the death of someone they didn't like. It's pure hypocrisy to demand respect for your respected leader, while laughing at the misortune of people you don't like. Wrong. A true Christian, one who believes in following the life of Jesus would never laugh at the death of another person, whether it were Hussain, Hitler, Stalin or whoever. You didn't see it because it was on another forum, but when one of the ultra-conservative frauds of a "religious leader" got really sick, I did make some celebration posts, just like I will when they finally die (hopefully in as painful a way as possible). Ok...and...? You'll notice a lack of "thank god he's dead" celebrating, and it's not because I'm afraid of your anti-peregrine policy I'd say it is. You're already on strike 2 and strike 3 is just a hair's length away. Whether you admit it or not, you just have no sense of humor. I didn't find your comments the slightest bit humorous. Maybe you're just not funny? Can't see anybody else laughing.
Switch
Can we ban him, puhlleeeease? He's just painting a huge red "ban me, I'm an ass!" bullseye on his forehead. A good old fashioned IP ban is well overdue. The sad thing is he doesn't even seem to realise... or at least doesn't care that he's being incredibly offensive to some. As always. I'm not Catholic, and I didn't really agree with some of the pope's views, but you can't deny he was one of the most determined people ever! He certainly earned himself a place in the history books. I just pity the replacement, he's got a big reputation to live up to.
CLB1110
What the hell is your peoples problem? If Peregrine wants to state what he thinks about this matter then let him, even if it pisses people off he still has the RIGHT to say it. Personally I didnt really know much about the pope but he seemed like a pretty good guy to me. I am a Christian and I dont like it when people die, but there are people dying all the time so they need our prayers too not just the pope. If anything he is in heaven now and he is having a great time. Im sure he would want us to pray for other people and not him because he is in heaven. Stanhead
I can see Peregrines' side to the argument, but his joke may be considered offensive by catholics. You just can't laugh at somebodies death, even if you think they will be doing the same in heaven (I don't believe in heaven, I'm just stating what other people have already said). Yes, the Pope did have a sense of humour (as I saw in The Daily Mirror today. They published some quotes of his "wise moments"), but I doubt he'd laugh about his own death. It was a long battle he faced against illness, and sadly (for some), he gave up and passed away. I see nothing at all funny about that.
