Morgoth
Which proves again that some people should maybe get their facts straight. Yes, Joesph Ratzinger was a member of the Hitlerjugend - on that account, which male youth wasn't?It wasn't a question of conviction or being a Nazi - the mere fact that you probably wanted to get some sort of schooling implied that you were a member of the HJ; if you didn't sign up yourself, your school would certainly do that for you (as it was the case with Ratzinger, as of now Benedict XVI). Even if you were willing to accept all the disadvantages and impossiblity of any advancement within society, the massive repressions against non-members would have soon crushed you or made you become a member. Please, start basing your opinions on a broader basis than the title page of the "Sun". Peregrine
*checks the weather report in hell* Yep, hell just froze over and I'm actually somewhat defending a major religious leader. The nazi thing is a really minor issue compared to his present policies, unless something more substantial can be found than just this membership thing. When a dictatorship willing to commit mass murder tells a 14 year old "here's your membership card", you don't disobey. There's no evidence he did anything at all immoral in his time with them, and he deserted as soon as he had the opportunity. You can't call some scared kid's actions a sign of his worth sixty years later.
CrazyGilbert
yeah, by the time the war was full scale nobody at all could just say "sorry i do not wish to join" which they find is another way of saying 'I hate hitler and will not support him' which he and many others had felt but kept it to themselves
