Of Burning War

 

The five Demidivines were fairly overwhelming to all that they met from Matriel (that was changing from the false Tamriel) except for the Slayer Twins. From the start the five Hero Demidivines knew that the twins were far more than just mageborn. There was only limited time for introductions and to begin to get used to working together. As it was many folk were forced to sleep as they were being influenced by the changes to their existence (Tamriel to Matriel) and that was to be expected.

 

The Empire was becoming the Imperial Republic. Surprisingly much was remaining generally the same. Many technologies remained the same as did social structures, power factions and such like. The Emperor's power had shifted, thanks to the Empire becoming a 'republic' but was still great. There was an Imperial Parliament along with limited democracy.

 

Steammagic airships were most important to the empire, as were steammagic trains and barges using networks of water canals. Steammagic was found to influence the lives of many in many ways from pneumatic message tubes, to musical organs, cranes, trams, trucks, cars, tractors, merry-go-rounds, lamp-projector shows and much else.

 

But the quest to deal with the threat of 'burning deaths', of 'burning war', remained the same.

 

The Hero Demidivines still had the task of getting to where Lord Juno dwelled, knowing somehow that it was not enough just to have seen it from a distance. They also wanted to know what had happened to Republican Princess Alice of Wonderhaven.

 

"We need to remain here, in the Second Grand Coveta, until the changes have finished to the realm." Jadekia frowned softly in frustration. "We will know when to leave when it comes. The Coveta will inform us but we also will know. Some of us are going to vanish from the Coveta to be drawn back into Tamriel, that is now Matriel. We will not even been certain of what we need to do next except that we need to reach the abode of Lord Juno. We wish to find out what happened to Republican Princess Alice, the Hero of the People of Wonderhaven who broke the absolute power of the Monarchy of the Cards. The CheshireCat is her head of security intelligence, was observing us in Wonderhaven, so Alice should know of us."

 

Olisha, who had a sleeping curled up furroach on each shoulder, responded. "What of Multihaven that was first known of as Mundusdoto?"

Xena spoke for the Hero Demidivines. "All that came with us, the elite warriors and others, have vanished back to Multihaven. We are only the five now, along with our worthy steeds. Multihaven is also being influenced."

 

Olisha looked around as others also vanished, this time to Matriel. The group would soon be down to a very much smaller number than it had been. The Blades, the Legionaries and other soldiers were gone as were the mages and others. Slayers, and other mageborn, not only remained but were stronger than they had been.

 

Those that had been found in the Coveta were back in their capsules.

 

A big mystery had arisen; why was the transformation taking place from the 'false Tamriel' to the real 'Matriel'? Who, what, could be behind such changes or were they the natural reaction to what had happened before?

 

The mystery remained unsolved and the changes kept taking place.

Of the Orbis Observing

 

The Orbis observed armies of kynes gathering in the Burning Lakes Zone. In the terms of Matriellan history there had been two big kyne invasions in the past and over a dozen lesser incursions. Shapeshifting fleshkynes began to infiltrate the Imperial Republic but they were often clumsy, in their attempts to be human, so they most often dealt with with ruthless efficiency. The last big kyne invasion had been over a thousand years ago but the Imperial Presidium would not allow complacency to dominate the minds of the citizens.

 

The Orbis observed the powerful Albiri Alliance hurl back the szykynes (special kynes) and destroy many of them in a series of cunning, brutal, moves. Yet the military thrust was not as effective as the Albiri would have wished. They called upon more allies, even offering generous concessions, but were surprised that offers of help came with out acceptance of those offers. The Matriellan Underworlders knew very well that they faced death, destruction or worse if the szykynes were victorious.

 

The Orbis observed the rise of new deities but most remained much the same as they had been when the false Tamriel had existed.

Of Burning War

In the Coveta were the Demidivines, their steeds, and a Slayer group of thirteen plus furroaches. All others, that had been there, were either gone or were back in the capsules.

Olisha found information 'almost by luck' as she felt herself to be guided by a subtle, invisible, force. It was a key to a breakthrough of understanding, a confirmation of old theories.

"False Mundus was created to trick the Nameless Enemy into believing it was invading the real thing. Thus the infestation came into existence there through different points in timespace." Olisha placed a thin silvery metallic tablet on a table before most of the others. A furroach was busy grooming itself on the table in a very ungraceful manner. She gently picked it up and put it to one side so she could put down a second tablet. "The problem was that the false realm was unstable, incomplete and there was always the chance that the Nameless Enemy could discover the trick. It is feared that the Antidivinity did so and alerted the Nameless Enemy."

Trento, of the three Slayer battlemages, spoke out. "What has this to do with the existence of the TransMatrix?"

 

Jadekia looked to Trento. "We need to work on one step at a time but the TransMatrix appears to be tied somehow to the existence of not just Mundus but related realms. Somehow the TransMatrix is also linked to the burning deaths, to the horrors of Burning War."

 

Olisha nodded. "As related to the Grand Theory of Co-Creation."

 

Jadekia smiled. "Yes, as related to the Grand Theory of Co-Creation. I am surprised you know of it as only relatively few do."

 

Olisha showed surprise. "I am also surprised. No, we are surprised for Samsal and I are one that is two that is one. Any action has an opposite, equal, reaction and the unleashing of powerful creative forces can thus have unforeseen consequences. The TransMatrix creates Mundus and Mundus thus creates the TransMatrix causing both to be as real, and as dominate, as each other. The two creations become merged almost as one, through time and space, thus the fact that the TransMatrix created Mundus becomes nullified as a past act."

Except for Samsal, the others stared at Olisha in surprise.

 

Xena shook her head, a little, in wonder. "That was a good first step in understanding an amazingly complicated set of concepts. Hurts the head to get any real deeper. Only Shanzria ever understood it fully, with a handful of exceptions."

 

"We are aspects of Shanzria!" Samsal spoke and sounded surprised at his own words. "Shanzria was there when the TransMatrix was activated, when it was used to create Mundus. She tried, with some others, to stop it from happening but failed thanks to treachery and the actions of ancient evil forces. In theory superhumans created the TransMatrix but their efforts were led by imposters known as the Dazerien. The superhumans now exist, in Mundus, as the Divines and other deities. The Dazerien now exist, in Mundus, as the DaedraGods. Now I have a headache."

 

So Mundus was real thanks to fundamental laws of multiversal physics that were often known as aspects of the Timespace Contradictuum Continuum.

 

So how did Olisha-Samsal become to exist as Slayers, as mageborn, in the false Tamriel? They were reflections of real people in Earthriel, a supercontinent alternate to the real Tamriel. Was it part of a plan that they, and other mageborn (now of Matriel) be there to help with what was to be done next?

 

A strange, quiet, booming noise went through the big main chamber of the Coveta. The sleeper-capsules were opening against but there had been changes with those in the capsules. Some were to be very surprising but most were to be expected considering the transformation of False Tamriel into a real Matriel.

 

Avina, a Slayer Scholar, spoke out from where she stood. "What of the LittleFatFamily, where did they come from?"

Of Burning War

 

The capsules entities had changed in that the Grand Aldmer had been replaced by a people called the Grand Dwemer, not to be confused with the Common Dwemer of Matriel. There were still WayOnes there, as focused on the Waygates, but fewer of them. There were FirstOnes but they were in some ways different from the FirstOnes that had been of the False Tamriel; serving them were OldOnes much the same as had been there before. The Mechamer, cyborg Mer, were still there but changed in their technologies. The nocturnal DarkOnes were also there but the extremely exotic MultiOnes were not. The humans, in jumpsuits, were no longer there.

 

The Coveta itself was now the Second Grand Dwemer Coveta with emphasis on 'grand steammagic' including many steammagic robots, drones and other mechanisms.

 

Yet there were still many signs of the influence of the Grand Aldmer in the Coveta though none were in the capsules.

 

The subtle presence of something ancient, but neither FolkOnes or Mer, was still there but if anything was more pronounced.

 

Sa'Sazrakrizt, of the Grand Dwemer, stepped forward tall and impressive in metallic robes and looked upon the group with some wariness. Then he bowed to the Demidivines, ignoring the Slayers in the process. "What now has caused an extremes of basic changes in reality? False Mundus was created for a purpose to protect the real Mundus. Now here I am being a Grand Dwemer instead of a Grand Aldmer though I am still a metahuman inside the TransMatrix. Something tells me you now know of the TransMatrix."

 

Metahumans?

 

Jadekia responded calmly. "I am also metahuman inside one of the TransMatrix interaction capsules. Metahumans served the superhumans who were mostly tricked into doing a very foolish thing in creating the TransMatrix and activating it, thus threatening the whole multiverse. A co-creation took place, as you know. Two of the mageborn here, that you are so rudely ignoring, are aspects of Shanzria herself."

Sa'Sazrakrizt turned, bowed briefly, and spoke to Olisha and Samsal. "I apologize for my rudeness. I am still awakening from a very long time in a sleeper-capsule, as you know, but I should have known better. I 'sense' the truth of what Jadekia has stated. We badly need your assistance to stop the Burning War before it begins, before it began, before it will begin."

 

Xena spoke for the Demidivines. "The major event, of unleashing the Burning War, is yet to occur."

 

Sa'Sazrakrizt looked thoughtful. "Then we have a chance to stop it from happening here in Matriel in a way that would have been trickier in the False Tamriel. It is a good thing then that the False Tamriel became Matriel. The Nameless Enemy, and the Antidivinity, will have a terrible shock coming to them."

 

Olisha was puzzled at her own words, even as they came from her mouth. "Shanzria set out to help defeat the evil plan behind the creation, and activation, of the TransMatrix. Some of her most powerful followers came with her, even though they knew that the plan would be dangerous and painful in some ways. Avina, the Slayer Scholar, asked where had the LittleFatFamily had come from. The LittleFatFamily, in all of its aspects, came from Shanzria and her powerful followers infiltrating the TransMatrix. You already know that, Sa'Sazrakrizt, because you and the other Grand Dwemer here are treacherous followers of the Nameless Enemy."

 

The fighting broke out at once as Jadekia summoned up a small army of powerful fighting entities. The fighting was not simple in its choosing of sides. While the Grand Dwemer faction were supported by many of the Mechamer, the others from the capsules fought on the side of the Demidivines and the Slayers. This included a few of the Mechamer. There was no explanation for this while the savage battle raged with magic and strange fighters confronting each other. Steammagic cyborgs fought steammagic robots while Slayers slashed through waves of OldOne warriors in steammagic power armor. Steammagic weapons fired off a wide range of projectiles while DarkOnes used shadow magic cloaks to confuse their enemies.

 

Then it was over as most of the Grand Dwemer had escaped, leaving their faithful followers behind to be taken prisoner.
