And my current theory is that the missing posts are the ones that were in the forum sections that powered the comments sections for mods, videos, images and articles. The transfer to the new forums seems to have split some threads between a regular "forum" and a "community" forum. You can't post in the threads in the "community" forum without hitting the "join community" button. At the top of the thread page, where it says "Home > Games > Oblivion > Discussion > Post your best looking character!" click on "Discussion" to go up one level and then look for the "join community" button right below the header image.
