Where there is a demand, a supplier will show up. Doesn't matter what it is, or whether it is legal or not. You can reduce the impact, but, you will never stop it. Consider that here in the US, a wide variety of drugs have been banned for decades, with harsh penalties simply for possession.... yet you can still find them everywhere, without much effort.

The trouble is people won't stop because there's no deterrent, in this country the chance of end users getting prosecuted is close to zero. If some guy downloads an album worth £10 it's going to cost more than that to get their details from their ISP, then there's the expense of putting a case together and taking them to court, they'll be well into four figures to prosecute someone over a £10 album, and it's not like the court will do anything to do them other than a fine and if they're on a low income or a minor that fine will be next to nothing, it'll just be a waste of taxpayers money, money that could be better spent elsewhere.

The guys who own the sites and make the money, they're a different story, it's well worth going after them and they do.

When it comes to end users I don't know what the answer is to be honest, people have stealing things ever since there were things to steal and that'll never change.

That’s precisely what I’m talking about. It’s not about stopping them, but trying to slow it down by making an effort to dissuade people.

Of course law enforcement is going to target whatever is the bigger threat, but people can help them by targeting the consumers and trying to deter them from piracy. There’s no guarantee it will help, but at least we can say we tried.

At least, that’s how I feel about it.

Dissuade people? How do you propose to do that? It's already illegal.... yet folks don't seem to bat an eye about regularly breaking them. Nothing "I" say to anyone is going to change their mind either.

Look, pal. I've already explained it. This is the last time I'll respond to anything about this because I'm tired of repeating myself. There's no harm in making an effort to dissuade people. Even if your efforts fail, no one can say you didn't try. Plain and simple.

While I agree, there is no harm in trying..... I would bet it would be an exercise in futility..... But, you do you.

I was reading through the Bans thread and saw something called "Endorsement fraud." What is that?

Think it's something about making multiple accounts to artificially boost endorsement numbers.

Seriously? That's sad.

That's one way of putting it. 😄 Personally, I don't quite understand why folks do that..... I read comments.... Sure, endorsements carry some weight, but, comments are where the real meat and potatoes reside. If there are issues with a mod, you will see them there first.

Personally, I don’t care if I get endorsements on my mods or not. I make something for myself, and if I feel like sharing it, I will. Plain and simple.
