IvanTheTerrible1234567 Posted July 21, 2024 Posted July 21, 2024 This is the error I get when I try to launch vortex. I don't even have an antivirus and my windows defender is completely turned off.
Community Manager Pickysaurus Posted July 21, 2024 Community Manager Posted July 21, 2024 The "appdata" path should be pretty static unless your install of Windows is completely toast. Try typing %appdata% into the "Run" box (Windows Key + R) and see if it opens anything. If it doesn't your Windows install is very, very broken.
IvanTheTerrible1234567 Posted July 21, 2024 Author Posted July 21, 2024 Yeah i tried that and it doesn't work. I can type "appdata" into the run box and it takes me straight there. It's just when i add the percent symbols that it doesn't. And if my Windows is broken what should i do? i've done an sfc scan and it didn't find any errors. should i just reinstall it?
showler Posted July 21, 2024 Posted July 21, 2024 Does your "appdata" folder have a "roaming" folder in it?
showler Posted July 21, 2024 Posted July 21, 2024 Weird. "appdata" should take you to the "appdata" folder and "%appdata%" should take you to the "appdata/roaming" folder. Since that's where the Vortex info is stored it seems likely that "%appdata%" not working as it should is the cause of the problem.
IvanTheTerrible1234567 Posted July 21, 2024 Author Posted July 21, 2024 Yeah it is pretty strange. What should I do?
showler Posted July 21, 2024 Posted July 21, 2024 Googling seems to indicate that you can set the variable of %appdata% to a string of your choice, but I'm not confident enough that I understand it to recommend it.
IvanTheTerrible1234567 Posted July 21, 2024 Author Posted July 21, 2024 Yeah the error i keep getting is that "G:\ is unavailable". that's the drive that failed on me. but i don't understand why it would say that because my appdata folder is on my C Drive.
Community Manager Solution Pickysaurus Posted July 22, 2024 Community Manager Solution Posted July 22, 2024 Sounds like you may have moved the app data folder to G:\ at one point. You would need to tell Windows to look for it on C:\ again but exactly how I'm not sure
