IcelandicPsychotic
I've made two new banner textures for my next mod but I'm having serious trouble with the normal maps. I've been trying to create them myself but I can't get it right and the guides on the CS wiki are outdated. I'm close to finishing the mod but this problem is slowing my progress. So I was wondering if anyone here could create these normal maps for me. It would be a huge help and I will of course give credit where it is due. If anyone here would like to help then please send me a DM and I'll send you the texture files.
AndalayBay
What tools are you using?
IcelandicPsychotic
I tried Laigter and then GIMP.
AndalayBay
Unfortunately the methods I know use the Nvidia normal map filter for Photoshop. I suggest searching for making Oblivion normal maps with Gimp. Even though the tutorials will be old, so is the game, so the instructions will still apply, along as the normal map filter has been updated to match the recent Gimp versions, of course. LenaWolfBravil
I am no expert on making fancy normal maps, I just follow a straightforward process with GIMP that somehow always works. 1. Download and install a GIMP plugin for normal maps from here: https://code.google.com/archive/p/gimp-normalmap/ 2. Have your DDS file open, go Layer -> Transparency -> Colour to Alpha and select BLACK (000000). Note that it selects white by default, so you need to change it. You can save this preset under Presets so you don't have to think about it again. 3. From the menu go Filters -> Map -> Normal map (this is your new plugin, it should be there). Keep all the default settings. 4. From the File menu go File -> Export As... and save your file as file_n.dds as usual, using DXT5 compression. I found a couple of tutorials about making normal maps with GIMP, but I can't find that simple one that I used years ago (which is essentially what I wrote above). But these two pages may be useful, although they are (maybe) (overly) complicated. https://cs.uesp.net/w/index.php?title=GIMP:_Quality_Normal_Maps https://docs.gimp.org/2.10/en/gimp-filter-normal-map.html
