Is GOG now a viable alternative to Steam?

'Legendary Edition'  was basically a June 2013  bundle deal of the original (32 bit) game + all 3 DLCs.     Nothing else.

The 'Special Edition' released in October 2016, was also original game + DLCs, but in a new, more robust 64-bit engine, and better textures.   Anyone who bought original game or LE, got Special Edition for free, and also at that time (2016), Legendary Edition was removed from Steam store as an obsolete product.   Maybe you can still find a link to it in store (I mean, I still have the original 2011 game in my library), but good luck actually buying it.

'Anniversary Edition',  like LE, is just a bundle deal: Skyrim Special Edition + Anniversary CC pack.

There's no mystery.  GOG can only sell the games that the publisher gives them a license to sell.

Bethesda/Microsoft wanted GOG to be able to sell a DRM free version of Skyrim AE, but didn't want them to sell Skyrim LE.   That's all there is to it.

Not COG, GOG.  A digital storefront that sells games similar to Steam.

It should be noted that GOG is owned by CD Projekt Red and has never, ever been associated with piracy and Nexus Mods has never had any policy, official or unofficial, that would result in being banned or warned for buying games from GOG.

I have literally no idea where the OP pulled that nonsense from.

Not really “nonsense”.

It was from others here that told me my game was a pirate copy and they wouldn’t answer any of my questions a couple of years ago when I told them my copy was from GOG when trying to clear up some loading issues I had.

It really was a misconception from some members, and they were rather hostile about it, all from the “we’re going to report you” types and even more obnoxious replies from others.

Never had an issue with the mods as far as I know or I wouldn’t be here now.

Can GOG Fallout 4 exist together on a computer with Steam Fallout 4 (this question would also apply to Skyrim SE)?

I ask because the upcoming Heather Casdin for Fallout London seems tempting.

Yeah should be fine. I have GOG and steam SSE installed (steam version for creation kit and testing only)

Yes.  Though you do have to be sure of which install your mod manager is pointing to.  I'm not sure if Vortex can manage both at once (since I don't use Vortex), but MO2 can easily have separate "portable instances" of MO2 pointing to each.

Yeah it can.

FWIW I have the Steam version on my C drive and the GOG on my F drive.

And yeah, Heather has been my favorite follower on 4 since she came out.

Darlene was good to, but she reminded me too much of my bipolar ex.
