Hello. Always keep, only 15 or 20 saves and from time to time, do a defrag to hard disk. if you use F4SE, running Fallout 4, this utility cost many problems and a save or the first 4 or 5 first saves many times, not going to be load. Try not to keep your PC running more than 8 or 10 hours, because of the heat at the hard disk, one reason why a save don't load. So if you see you can't load a save, after 8 or 10 hours, make off to the PC and wait to the next day to play again Fallout 4 or other games you like. That's all.

just an update

 

I dialed the game back to a save that was at 61 days and 13 hours and have played it up to 62 days and 10 hours and the game is again hanging on the loading screen. I can CTRL-ALT-DEL out of that process and restart FO4 and load up the 61 day save or any of the earlier saves with no problems. It's just on the 62 day save when the problem occurs.

 

and just to address the hard drive question I have over 450 gigs of empty space on the hard drive so space is not a problem. Disk defrag found no fragmentation and error checking found no errors on the hard drive.

 

I will totally shut down the machine tonight and attempt to boot up cold tomorrow morning and see if this makes a difference.

First thing I'd try would be loading the broken save it into Resaver and see if it throws up any warnings.

I had a very similar problem once, but with more than 80 days playtime in one playthrough. At around level 330 the game stuck in an endless loading screen. So I began a new playthrough and I am beyond 80 days again. The game is still running. In the first playthrough the savegames had at last about 80 MB and now around 40, because I uninstalled a bunch a mods from which I believe that they blow up savegames. As a result I don't believe that there is a simple time limit. But what can happen is that you have one or more mods installed that permanantly add entries to leveled lists. These lists must not have more than a certain amount of entries (255 if I remember right). Otherwise the game will not load anymore. I believe that's the reason why 363rdChemicalCompany asked for that brothel mod. Another reason I could imagine is that savegames might become too big. Or perhaps there is something like a max. number savegames can have. I sometimes copy the latest savegames to a different location, load the game and afterwards delete the savefiles from the original folder during the running game and begin to create new saves. The game then begins to count again from "1".

ok, so I shut down last night and tried it fresh and it still hangs at the loading screen.  But if I go back to the 61 day save it will load up normally.  So I don't think it's a hardware problem.

According to Vortex I have 192 enabled mods with 57 disabled or uninstalled mods.

 

I will try resaver to see if it can help though honestly it looks really complicated.

 

As to mods that might be causing this where would I begin looking?  character mods, settlement mods, environmental mods?

Yes, the RSE brothel mod kept adding on every save some line item. Until it got to the limit at 255 and then the game was unloadable.

I was going to install it , but lurking on Loverslab talked me out of it for that reason..

But a patch has been published that fixes this for the RSE Brothel mod, but by now that kind of stuff is no longer a big part of my playstyle.

So I concur the OP likely has a problem of this type with one one his mods, but since it takes such a long time to become a problem it could be very difficult to ferret out which one.
