Enderal Loses Controller Support When Launched Via Vortex

Vortex version 1.13.2

  • Which game are you modding and which game store did you purchase it from? Enderal Special Edition from Steam (my Skyrim SE is also from Steam)
  • Which mods are you trying to use? Arrow Tweaks, Enderal SE Gameplay Overaul, Enderal Log Cabin, Less Arcane Fever, MARC (arcane arrows), Stolen Memories, White Hearth-Enderal SE, Adventuer's Tunic - Enderal Integration, Allow Fast Travel, Arrow Crafting, and Beach House
  • What steps did you take before you encountered the error? I made sure controller was enabled from the launcher and checked the EnderalPerfs file to make sure that controller was enabled. Both are enabled.
  • What is the specific error message you received? I receive no error message, just simply when I launch from Vortex, there's no controller support. When I click to load a game, it even says the controller is on, but there's no controller support. If I launch from the launcher, the game just never loads and I have to reboot the whole system because I can't even tab out to force end the program. I can only launch from vortex, which again, loses controller support for some reason.

Controller support is probably provided through Steam.  Did you check that controller support was enabled for Enderal in the Steam settings for the game?  Does Vortex launch Enderal through the Steam launcher or is there a script extender for it?

It is enabled through Steam. I don't know where Vortex launches from (outside of I know my game files are on my d drive under steam apps) I just know it doesn't pull up the regular game Launcher, but in game, even when launched from Vortex, it registers that the controller is on but doesn't respond to any controls or buttons.

Enderal comes with script extender automatically.

What you'll probably need to do then is find out what Vortex is launching (on the Tools tab look for whichever item is marked as the default and then use the menu accessed by the three dots to check what the target is) and then add that to Steam as a "non-Steam game" and enable controller support for that new "game".

The game itself can only make use of controllers that have native Windows support, but Steam adds support for other controllers as well.

You could also try, for a simpler solution, NOT launching through Vortex since Vortex does not need to be running in order for mods to work.  If Enderal has script extender support built in then the normal launcher should work fine.

Tools says it uses the Enderal Launcher and Script Extender, the path used is via the steam apps. So it uses Steam for launch.

Sadly I have to launch through vortex, as I originally mentioned, if I don't the game just simply never actually starts. It just gets stuck in an endless black load screen and I can't even tab out, I have to reboot to regain the pc.

I made the steam launcher primary, tried it again. It still says the controller is on, but there's no response from any button or joystick in the game.

Also update...vortex kept demanding a mod, so i got the mod "Flat Map Markers" and now enderal won't even open because it already had it.

So to summarize things thus far

Vortex says there's a mod missing that the launcher says is there.
Opening the game (with mods) from Steam (when map markers in vortex is disabled) simply doesn't ever load...it just black screens and I have to reboot to regain my pc back cuz it gets just stuck there
launching from Vortex and I have no controller function. Controller is on, it's on in settings, it's on (=1) in the Perf file, and it's enabled in the steam settings, but there's zero response, removing mods and verifying the files regains controller function and ability to load in.

I've tried workarounds from reddit, they don't work. And again, I don't have the option of launching outside of vortex cuz then the game doesn't even load in at all and takes all my computer.

Please help.

You can just start the game via Steam if Enderal isn't behaving as expected when started via Vortex. As it's not really a game (just a big mod for Skyrim), it's possible there's something funky with it.

For the third time...when i launch through the launcher or use steam, it just endlesssly blackscreen loads. It works fine with no mods and I've reinstalled it three times now.
