Elon Musk buying twitter was the worst thing that could happen to it. He is the one responsible for twitter going to the gophers. (I want insult dogs by associating them with Musk.....) He changed all the rules, several times, and what you see now is the result of him not being able to make up his mind. I won't miss twitter.

Ironicaly without Elon buying it, there would be not Twitter(X) anymore and truth be told I always wondered why he ever bothered. For me it was another company lucky to aboard social media/messenger train at a right time. But when competion came they simply couldn't cope and they were on verge of bankruptcy themselves  when Elon bought it. And it was quite amusing to read various news what happened when he found out and true state of things in Twitter. But I don't feel sorry for him, serves him right.

My bet? Mix of an ego trip and for information control.

Maybe, that guy loves to get an attention, that's for sure. But what I do know about billionaire's life? A biilion here, a billion there... he has propably too much money for his own good.

WRT Elon, probably a bit of all of the above, ppl don't often have just one reason for doing anything.  But I would bet that a large part of his impetus came from getting tired of seeing the results of the biased 'fact checking', post reductions/removals, and account suspensions, just like he said.

Any one here remember that he tried to back out of the purchase after finding out additional information?  That he was forced to complete the purchase by court decision?

Specifically when he was told he couldn't do whatever he wanted with it should it violate the regulations of countries it was being used in.

Why'd you think he's so "anti-EU"? He doesn't like the fact they can rule to block his toy out should it become enough of a problem.

According to his SEC filing - “For nearly two months, Mr. Musk has sought the data and information necessary to ‘make an independent assessment of the prevalence of fake or spam accounts on Twitter’s platform,’” reads the SEC filing. “Twitter has failed or refused to provide this information.”

There's more at the link - not sure how much I could post under "fair use".

The legal claims he made to try to back out and his reasons for wanting to back out are not necessarily the same.  The claim about fake accounts was the strongest argument he had and it was too weak for him to win.

Still, the only documentation cites the legal arguments, which tried to focus on the seller's arguably overestimated value for the company, you know, kinda like Trump?

If you have documentation of other reasons, and not just conjecture, please list them.

I don't have documentation of what was going on in his brain, no.

Wouldn't want it either.

But the links you gave make it clear that he was trying to get out of the deal based on a complaint about something he never bothered to write into the deal in the first place.  So if that was his big concern then he is a god-awful businessman.
