Mod Browsing Overhaul Discussion

I can't say anythiong about the inner workings, but from the looks of it, please don't change the overall design of the page. Please let the beta stay in beta. I know this is always a matter of personal taste, but I find the current design WAY better then what you did to the profiles page for example. I just think the boxy, flat, well exstablished design where everything is connected, that makes the look of the site rn, is just way better then the round, floaty (every think is a standalone element (tbf, better suited for small touch screens from 5-10 years ago)), minimalistic deign, anyone seems to change their products into.

And the added shadows to the elements don't make it better. They just make a not so good looking design even worse since they enhance the feel of things not being connected.

It's kinda like comparing Android KitKat design to current android. I prefer old android.

 

Edit: in other word: Don't change a running system and especially never make changes just for the sake of changing it. That's my opinion about the matter.

BUG: when looking at the images on the game page, images from blocked users are not filtered out. Switch back to classic, and they are filtered out as they should be. Regardless of the aesthetic choices, this failure makes the new design unacceptable.

BUG: On the media page, I get to see supporter images that are clearly in violation of my choices (no nudity, etc.). Unacceptable.

BUG: On the mod list page (where you get when you click "View All" for mods), your preferred sorting method is not honoured. Switch back to classic, and the mods are sorted according to your preferences.

Looks mostly alright, just please return the little updated/update available boxes on the mod icons AND please please the game-specific site colour themes, like how skyrim was red, rdr blue, etc etc. for the the modpage tabs i think the numbers should stay the same size as the name of the tab. otherwise, great stuff dudes

Thank you. I do apologise for the harsh tone of that message - I was rather shocked by all the nipple piercing glaring at me... Nipple piercing counts as armour these days... err... as well as... but I should stop now.

The entire home page looks like it's designed to keep popular mods and collections up top indefinitely by de-emphasizing everything else.  Bad design.

 

And how about you figure out basics like your search function issue before trying to compound errors.

I tried it on my laptop. It can handle classic look on mod pages no problem. When I switch to beta it becomes very laggy. I don't really understand why when it looks almost the same. Please don't force this update until you've fixed the performance issues.

Late to the party so I'll probably only point out what's already been pointed out- But here I go anyway

The first page I've seen when switching to the Beta was my Mods dashboard:

I like the "boldness" but the contrast is really harsh on the eyes; everything might be a bit "too dark" underneath the "bright" orange?

Also an useless, yet I-think-that-can-be-cool aesthetic feature; would it be possible to add a "key-visual background" to each supported games, and allows users to choose which one they'd want for their mods/content dashboard? :3 
Similar to how GOG does it on their website for the users profiles! Maybe limit the pool of available background depending on what mods the authors published (so if they did Cyberpunk mods, make the Cyberpunk visual available, etc)

I've seen others already point it out, but the main page is really "compact" compared to the mods browsing page  
I'm assuming it's to fit a maximum of resolution and formats - I'm on a 2560x1440 monitor - but I went ahead and threw a little mockup anyway:

Based on the mods browsing page' dimensions

• EDIT: Header Area - smaller, but keep the data, I think it's cool to check how much stuff is available at a quick-glance!
   
• EDIT: Trending Mods Area - Make it smaller, push it to the side and add a tab system; allows people to quickly check what's new and what's been recently updated on top of checking what's trending 
  New mods keep the game interesting, and Updated Mods showcase authors that cares about keeping their work up to date - I think they both desserves to be "on the front page" alongisde Hot Mods
  The choosen tab could maybe be saved via cookie to save the user's preference, and always "have it open" when visiting the page - Or not! s'not like clicking on tabs is a chore anyway (just an idea hehe)
  (personal opinion; Trending mods can be boring, especially when the same type of content with the same type of thumbnails always end up displayed on hot mods)
   
• NEW: Trending Media Area - With NexusMods' wish to push the community aspect forwards (and the new screenshots competitions and all) I think it'd be really neat to push the creative/virtual photography aspect on the front page! 
  Make it "as important" / a "big" part of the NexusMods community; it'll encourage people to share their creations to the world :3 
  
  Idea - I recently uploaded a video to the media tab, and was surprised to see it had options to link which mods were showcased in the video! 
  I think adding this functions to the pictures submitions would be AMAZING - Talking from someone modding for Cyberpunk 2077, the Virtual Photography community is Huge for this game, and Modders often works hands in hands with them
  There's a huge "mod preview" scene and - in addition to putting a spotlight on Medias and screenshots on the website - it'd be amazing to be able to list and see which mods were used in the screenshot!
   
• EDIT: Collections Area - Currently, I think it takes waaaay too much space; Make the area vertical, you could even slide one or two more collections on display there - Add another tab to showcase new or recently updated collections! 
   
• NEW: "Essentials" Mods Area - AKA "Core Mods"; with the new DP pools for core mods authors, I think it'd be nice to have a dedicated area to showcase them as well!
  It's useful for new players wanting to mod a new game; it shows which mods are the most popular, often means they're needed, essential, to modding that specific game
  It's also a good way to keep track of updated core mods for people who do not/forget to use the "tracking" system! 
   
• Nothing changed for the News area; I like it and it makes for a good footer  

AND AGAIN, the useless but cool-aesthetic-feature-perhaps; same as for the profile/mod dashboard, maybe it'd be more colorful and fun to have one of the game' visual key image as the background instead of simply a single color gradient?

It would be great if we can choose which sections (trending mods, collections...) will be visible and if we can re-arrange them freely on the mod page.

E.g. I don't want to see collections or trending mods on top, instead I want to see the newest mods on top.

Little chance this gets seen at all, but, better than just staying quiet.

Here we go:

• Site performance is awful. Scroll is very sluggish and laggy compared to the old site.
• Upper Area showing the Game Title uses too much space, as already pointed out by others.
• I don't care about Collections. Don't want them displayed on the games "front page" - especially not that high. Singular mods are more important than collections.
  Needs option to either move it or disable it.

• The new Background is actually making it hard to focus on the important parts being displayed, for some reason.
• New Design also doesn't separate very well between different sections of the site e.g. Top mods, More Mods, Media - which makes it really hard to focus on the part you want.
  A more visible line between sections would already be a huge improvement. The sections having their own background would be appreciated.

Overall, I know people don't adapt easily to new things, but so far I don't really see how the new design improves the User Experience.

Site performance issues is probably due to the wacky drop shadow stuff they are doing with the background. Why they thought this was a good idea, I do not know. It is unneccesarily expensive.
