Mod Browsing Overhaul Discussion

The new UI is very laggy when scrolling through. But only when going further down for some reason.
I gotta agree though, the new design feels very lifeless, just for the sake of being modern

The old style at least had some soul to it, you knew hey yeah this is nexus. Now it just feels like your typical modern ui just for the sake of it.
Everything is so centered into the middle leaving the sides completely empty with nothing in it, at least stretch it out across the whole screen.

No background, nothing. It doesnt feel nice to scroll through. And removing the tabs for New 30 days etc and putting a drop down instead I feel is also not a good choice, its more clicks compared to before. Now I gotta click at least 2-3 times when I wanna see new mods made during that day compared to just once.

Can you be more specific about which pages are lagging for you? What browser are you using? Do you have any extensions installed?

The vast majority of our users are on 1920x1080 displays and the new pages fit most of this screen width, some of them even go right to the edges (e.g. https://www.nexusmods.com/games/skyrimspecialedition/mods) when they did not before.

Did you know that you can set your default tab behaviour (https://next.nexusmods.com/settings/preferences) to Popular 30 Days? Although we need to sync up the preferences still to match the new pages, this does mean you can always see Popular 28 days without extra clicks.

Before the update when ı am looking mods  I Dont have to look all across my screen it was same spot it was easy to look not hurting my eyes and not ugly

Hopefully you'll get used to the changes soon, as it doesn't sound like you have any specific bug-bear here.

40% of our users browse Nexus Mods on a mobile device, you're not the only user we are catering for. Whilst we always keep desktop users our focus (as modding happens on a desktop), we have to cater for everyone.

We're also an old website, with a really wide range of users across all demographics. Not everyone can cope with small, concise and densely packed information. Some users need content well spaced and easily readable. The new design accommodates everyone, regardless of your needs.

Please try to keep your feedback polite, swearing (even obfuscated) isn't pleasant or polite.

When you try to please everyone, you end up pleasing no one. The old site was way more cleaner and efficient. I'll never understand this "If it ain't broke, let's fix it anyway, but worse" mentality.

We have some more changes in the pipeline to expand the mod search to also check summaries and descriptions. We'll also consider whether we continue using wildcards or start using token search. With the example you've included, our future changes will improve that (i.e. "trolls" is in that mod's summary and description, so will return in the results). This should also mean authors no longer need to pack titles full of keywords.

We've added a new user search function too, I'm not sure if you've seen this. It didn't exist before.

The new search UI also supports normal browser shortcuts to open pages in new browser tabs, so if you want to avoid closing the search you could try CTRL + Left Click (etc.)

I appreciate the intent of trying to do something useful, but putting in a users quicksearch function that requires more steps to get to your preferred results than doing it the old-fashioned way isn't useful at all.

p.s.: where do we need to post our negative feedback if not for this topic?

especially since this is a modding website, which happens on desktop so the focus should obviously be where people download and install the mods, not where some users browse before hopping on their desktop to download them afterwards. It's also not like mobile and desktop UI can't be separate, trying to unify them was bound to stir up trouble.

An option under user preferences to be taken straight to the 'mods' page of a game I've selected from my favorites list instead of the 'games' view would be appreciated.

eg

When choosing a game, say Resident Evil 4 2023 from my favorites list I get taken to

https://www.nexusmods.com/games/residentevil42023/mods

instead of

https://www.nexusmods.com/games/residentevil42023

Not gonna lie, this is the first time I'm actively looking for Nexus alternatives. Really don't understand need for pointless redesigns and QoL downgrades for the sake of some non-priorities.
I came to Nexus Mods, not Nexus Games. What is this lousy argument about making it easier to switch between games? I admit that back when I first started using the website it took me a while to figure out how to look up a specific game in the search bar, but once I understood that, it was a seamless experience.

This smells like the type of project someone undertook to pretentdthey were doing something and justify their paycheck.

You realize they hired people specifically for this task, right?  This wasn't some "make work" project for an existing employee, the team was expanded in order to do this task.
