Mod Browsing Overhaul Discussion

We're getting some decent answers from the Community managers on Discord so I wanted to relay that with you guys here because I don't know when/if they will.

Community Managers state they have been reading everything; they will pass the complaints further on.

Though they have been ignoring Reddit.

Picky Responded to "We just want a "We hear you, we're looking into all the problems, reading the suggestions, looking through the webcode and making it less ugly." posted in a pin here, on the forums, reddit etc. and then for real progress to follow through, rather than for it to be to simply shut people up."

With This - "If that hasn't been said explicitly let us reassure you it is happening. It may have been said by our Product or Design Leads on the forum but got buried. We try to pin the relevant comments on that thread but it's easier to find the reply box than read the pins!"

The word "ugly" was used talking about the UI, don't get your hopes up but possibly maybe at least now something could change.

REMINDER THAT SOME PEOPLE HAVE BAD/IMPAIRED EYESIGHT AND THE NEW UI IS ACTIVELY DETRIMENTAL. THE NEW LOOK MUST AT BARE MINIMUM BE BROUGHT CLOSER IN SPACING AND COLOUR SCHEME TO THE LAST VERSION OF THE UI WE HAD. IT IS NOT ONLY AN IT'S UGLY THING.

Thanks for the info, hopefully the staff who was overly rude gets a “talking to” as well.
I was going to use an example of only wanting to hear feedback from UIX professionals or thinking only that a UIX professional's opinion matters, to someone going to the ER, and the Staff is refusing to treat the patient until they can explain their medical problem using “Proper Medical Terms like a Medical Professional would”, otherwise, their Emergency will be ignored and dismissed.

Also, hopefully they bring back the Quick Search. It was so much more useful, and truly a “Quick Search” in every way, shape, and form.

Why did you remove the custom time range? It was really helpful to check out new mods in a game i wasn't keeping up with for longer than a year. And i'm also adding my voice to the sentiment of reverting this atrocious "upgrade", though i highly doubt anything will be done since time and money was already put into this new trainwreck of a UI. It should become common practice to sack web designers after the site is up and running to prevent this insanity of constantly reinventing the wheel to justify their job position, so many sites keep degrading like this.

This, and let's not forget the people - like myself - with color and light sensitivities, whose eyesight is otherwise fine.

I've got issues with high contrast dark modes, always have. To add on to this, I was relatively recently injured in an incident I can't discuss, which resulted in my sensitivities and my tendency for headaches both worsening.

This wasn't an issue on the old layout, with the old color scheme. The new layout and colors, however, give me migraines. Even just writing this post on this forum, my left eye is starting to throb because the site is just too dark for the text.

When an update is literally causing actual, physical harm to users, or otherwise taking away accessibility, there is a major problem.

I think you’re talking about something different. Tracked Content Updates are just your tracked mods. Nothing changed except the tab location.

They're not just your tracked mods. They're you're tracked mods that have had new posts in the comments or other UPDATES, a huge difference to just showing what mods you're tracking.

I wanted to chime in with the eye strain comment. By far, the new color scheme/contrast is the worst change. I honestly haven't more than 10 minutes on the new site UI to form an opinion because looking at it is so straining I have to click away. At the very least give people an OPTION to restore the old color scheme, I genuinely can't look at this.

Just to chime in here about Vision issues. I have Retinopathy, so for me, text that fits in between my 'gray spots' are much easier to see, than a huge thumbnail that looks like it has a bunch of holes in it.
Also, constant bright colors like in the overly large thumbnails can trigger “Ocular Migraines” which make it difficult, if not impossible, for me to see, for around 20–30 minutes while it's happening.
For people wondering what that looks like...

That (shown below) goes on and on and on, in both eyes, it starts from a small point, and grows and grows, it's like having constantly flashing Christmas lights inside your eyes for around 20–30 minutes, which eventually ends with a really bad and painful migraine in at least one eye for me.

First things first, I want missing features back and hopefully updated. As of 21.03.2025, 22:52 CET, the ability to enter a date range is missing while browsing mods. You can pick between a few preset dates, but that's inadequate. What if some state-of-the-art best mod ever was published just 366 days ago? Then, if I sort mods by endorsements and put in "1 Year" date range, I won't ever find that mod.

also, I think an invaluable addition would be a Date Updated date range. because now when browsing fallout 4 mods by endorsements, over half of them haven't been updated in over 5, 6 or even 9 years. and the last update for fallout 4 was in May 13, 2024. the ability to sort mods by date published from that date forward and sort them by endorsements or by number of downloads would be huge for mod discovery. Steam Workshop does it. they in fact let you enter both date published and date updated dates at the same time. sure it could result in zero items/mods, if you are not paying attention but I have faith in our userbase.
