Just wondering. Sisters in the military and I'm kinda leaning to it after I graduate High School. Thinking on going to the United States Air Force Academy or Norwich University in Vermont (Its a private Military Untiversity known for its Corps of Cadets.) Odds are I'll go to the later of the 2 because my sister went there. Although here boyfriend. (Odds are my soon to be brother-in-law) Went to the academy. My sister might end up going to Iraq in September. Not a positive yet but a possiblity.

Feel free to share your family's military history.

Have no intention to join the infantry, or any front-line force since I'd be crap under fire. Would hate to be an off-field officer since planning things bores the hell out of me. Guess that leaves me with waving sticks at landing planes...no thanks.

I don't really think so. I'm a lover not a fighter, as the old cliche goes. :D

Not to mention I'm somewhat squemish. I don't think I could handle battlefield gore, not to mention I don't think I'm physically capable of littering another person's body full of bullets.

Oh yeah, and I'm way too lazy and unfit for the military training regeim. Also I'd be yelling those general's heads off and storming out within the first day as I don't react well to being screamed at without just cause.

So all in all... nope. I think I'm happy with my civilian status. :P

My family doesn't have a strong military history so far as I know, but I haven't delved into that too deeply yet. My Grandad was an RAF pilot during WWII but never got to fight in it due to medical complications. Which is probably a good thing as I might not be here today if he had, heh.

And in regards to my family's history; my grandfather was a British Commando in the pacific who worked as recon and relay...basically that means..

Y ----- x ----- Z

Where Y is the allies, x is my grandad, and Z is the enemy. His job was to relay troop movements back to the allies. Obviously his position would also be the first one that was over run if the enemy advanced.

My grandmother's first husband was decapitated in a POW camp by Japanese hosts.

Relatives called up of course if you go back far enough. Not me. Never like the concept of having to do what you are told even if it's against your conscience. I think I could kill if I had to but I really wouldn't want to have to through my career.

Well, My grandfather was a Soviet foot soldier in WW2 and thats about it for military. I always told myself that fighting is only good for a just cause. the current war in iraq will most definantly NOT have me fighting in it.

My old man fought in Angola for a long time, it never inspired me to enlist though, in fact it probably did the opposite. While I do admire the bravery of the soldiers who do enlist and I am thankful for what they do, I refuse to be sent to my death by some guy that I don't know from Adam.

However, I won't lie that I have toyed with the idea, if God forbid, I lost the people I cared about and the motivation behind it was strong enough, I might consider joining up with a defense force. In my ignorance I used to be pro-war, these days though I sort of see it as a pointless waste of life and resources.
