Well, I'm having a fun day. So one common investment technique is to buy a done-in house and redecorate it, then sell it on for twice what you bought it for. It's a tried and true tactic, and my cousin's made herself very rich of it. Well, the same applies to cars-I bought a '99 Nissan Skyline at the beginning of the year for six grand, sold it today for over 30K. With that I've picked up a 2012 Skyline that'll replace the bike as my weekend car. It's got a few scars, namely some underbody damage, but that's OK-I did my apprenticeship with Nissan afterall, and I can get her running again for a fairly small investment. The thing about the Skyline is, and this applies to any sports car, rich people don't often buy used cars so they depreciate like underpants-even minor damage like this compounds that fact. All in all I got this for significantly less than half market value-and I've seen only slightly worse-off specimines for sub-$20,000.

If you're ever looking to buy a really nice car, shop around, look for something with maybe a cracked exhaust header or some other minor problem. Insurance companies are loath to repair these sorts of car, so you often find them, easily repairable and with nothing permanently wrong, for around 50% of their value.

Pic related, 2012 Skyline. The Skyline first appeared in 1949 and has gradually evolved into Japan's take on a Porsche 911. The difference is, even though they're equal on stats, the Skyline trades all luxury for affordability, while the Porsche does the opposite.

So the UK is in the middle of summer eh

I live in Australia and its currently Spring. It would be Autumn in the UK because it's in the northern hemisphere.

Also you wouldn't like our summers here, we have a high humidex count and sometimes with humidity it could get as high as 48c, if your lucky

The hottest days of summer here get to about 40°C with 100% humidity. I know what those summers are like...

You and Vindekarr are neighbors :D

I'm getting a gtx780, I don;'t know what he specs are on the ti version yet, but i have a feeling it will be a dumbed down gtx 780 like the gtx660ti or something similar. Hunch.

Some areas the gtx 780 is getting insane fps in certain programs, and games where even my crossfire fails to hit that number.

Yeah, I've got relatives in Sydney... somewhat concerned. I live north of Melbourne in the Latrobe Valley-place got decimated by Black Saturday so I know what fires can do. Here's hoping this one never reaches that level.

And Billy, I'm not a millionaire I'm just very practised at investing, scavenging and haggling-a very large portion of my day job is spent hunting down parts and cars to dismantle, so I get a lot of practice at cutting deals. This GTR cost me $32,000 which is a bargain. With the profits from selling my last project factored in, I've only spent about $5000 on the whole project, including parts. The real cost is that I'll have to shelve my side-job for a while unless I can find a fixable car for under $500-I don't like not having a financial cushion to sit on.

The funny thing I will say about sports cars is, they're a pain in the <your chosen body part> People with Corollas don't realise how lucky they are, waking up in the morning and not having to change all four tyres, just so the damn car is street legal. Or having to run a heater in the garage because the stupid thing doesn't start below a certain ambient temperature.
