Depends on who you're playing with. I haven't ever stolen loot-I tend to play co-op for fun, since solo farming is a better way to get loot, and I've got great gear anyway, but some other people won't have such good etiquette.

The biggest things you'll need to get your head around are Elements and gun manufacturers. Gun brands in Borderlands are like car brands in real life: they'll all got their own unique styling, and their products are good at different things. It's important to get a handle on which ones you like-two Assault Rifles from different brands will be so different that they'll require different playstyles.

Everyone has their favourites, and they're all good. They're just different. Even within say, the Assault Rifle class, each brand has their own take on the idea of what a Rifle is. Dahl rifles are burst-fire, mid-range carbines, while Vladof rifles are full-auto short-range shredders. Jakobs rifles are semi-automatic and at home past 120m, while Bandit guns have drum mags. They all look, sound and feel utterly different and it takes a while to get to the point where you can seemlessly switch between picking off targets at long range with a Jakobs or Dahl, to fighting practically hand-to-hand with a Vladof or Bandit gun.

The other trick is, that all guns have an Element type. Bullets and Explosives are pretty good against anything, and then Fire, Acid, Lightning and Slag all have specialist uses against certain enemy types. If you match the right element to an enemy-like Acid VS robots or Fire VS animals, you'll literally melt your enemies far faster than bullets or explosions. Slag's a bit different-Slag guns inflict a debuff that makes any non-slag attacks do double damage, in addition to have extra armour-penetration power. In short, it's rock paper scissors, though the trick is knowing instinctively when to pull out which gun. SMGs and Dahl/Vladof handguns are the #1 way to inflict elemental damage, and the Siren and Mechromancer specialise in that playstyle, with the Siren focussed on Fire and the Mechro on Lightning.

Cool, sounds like it will be a lot of fun. I was thinking about being the Commando the first time, but if the classes play differently, I'll have to look into it more carefully before I delve in.

Also, I heard that the loot was not instanced to each player, and that one player could "steal" another's epic loot. I can foresee anger management problems for myself down that road... :pinch:

Siren is OP at higher levels, especially with Pistols. Gunzerker is another good choice. There is more ways to play the game other then just pure elemental weapons, Siren is pretty good with most Pistols, some AI npc's are immune to some types, so switching out here and there is a good idea.

The infinite pistols and class legendary mods is the way to go with the siren at OP8.

The Gunzerker is good with Double penetrating Unkempt Harolds with the bee shields, as you do more research on whats good and what isn't.

There are three types of weapons to look out for, Golds, pearls and Seraph weapons.

Some cases the gold weapons tend to be a lot more deadly then the Pearls or Seraph weapons. Just because of their rarity.

There is no way I'll be able to remember all this! I'll learn as I go.

And it has finished downloading (finally), so I'll play it later this arvo.
